panther1400 Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 Are they both the same or does one tower above the other or down the road have more ability to expand?
PilotDerek Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 I tried both and at the time I went with foreflight due to its ability to touch and drag your planned route. Which where I am is important due to all the restricted areas. WingX would only let me plan via VOR's or airports, I couldn't plan with my own checkpoints. I think they may have changed that in an update after my free trial expired. I know foreflight works great with or without an internet connection as long as you dowloaded the maps. Since they both have a free trial put them both through the wringer and decide which one fits your needs the best.
FlyDave Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 I chose WingX because it's a more flexible application and it has support for the ADS-B receiver I bought. I like the split screen ability and the ability to pinch/enlarge a chart as large as you need to. There are many other features I like about it as well. You can add any non-predefined waypoint you want to a flightplan by tapping and holding the screen. I belive it will automatically add it to your current flight plan. WingX costs $0.99 to purchase the app in the app store and you'll get a 1 month free trial to download plates/ifr low, high & proceedures/sectionals. I believe with Foreflight you have to purchase a 3 month subscription to save plates & charts for use in the air. Another nice feature of WinX is that with the standard $99/year you get geo-referrenced airport diagrams. Geo-referrenced plates uncurr additional cost. There are a number of posts here on MooneySpace about the differences. Search for WingX and you should find them all.
bnicolette Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 The latest update for Foreflight is out and it is just outstanding!! Question for those of you that use Foreflight. In the maps section with radar overlayed it will show any TS with tops and also there is a line with four dots on it. I am assuming that these are showing the direction the cell is moving? I haven't seen these on any of their legends. Thanks
jetdriven Posted July 20, 2012 Report Posted July 20, 2012 Thta was covered on BT. The dots are based on current cell speed, and they are 20-40-60 minutes http://blog.foreflight.com/2012/07/16/storm-tracks-now-available/
