Skates97 Posted September 7, 2019 Report Posted September 7, 2019 Here's an old post with some information about the center spar splice. It is common for it to see some corrosion. It looks like it has also spread past just the splice? Searching Google with mooneyspace in the search is also often very helpful, I find it is usually better than the search function on the forums. https://www.google.com/search?q=mooneyspace+spar+splice+plate+site:mooneyspace.com 1 Quote
carusoam Posted September 9, 2019 Report Posted September 9, 2019 There is a procedure for cleaning and measuring the depth of corrosion... It is possible that it has been caught quick enough... Those parts are susceptible to intergranular type of corrosion, that spreads quite quickly... Do not wait... My M20C got some similar corrosion to start under the kids feet... no idea what was spilled under the rug... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic. Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
Yetti Posted September 9, 2019 Report Posted September 9, 2019 (edited) Don Maxwell Has posted pictures of repairs recently. Drill the rivets out and rivet the new one in place. Need the pros on this one. A call to South West Texas Aviation is in order. Edited September 9, 2019 by Yetti 2 Quote
MooneyMitch Posted September 9, 2019 Report Posted September 9, 2019 If corrosion is measured beyond cleaning only, the cap can be removed and replaced. It happened years ago to my 67 F model. The shop removed rivets from, and carefully pulled lower right side fuselage skin out of the way, removed spar cap rivets, slid corroded cap out the right side, reinstalled new spar cap with new rivets, reinstalled fuselage skin, touched up outside rivets..... done. Good luck ! 2 Quote
