I have a 65' M20C with a newly overhauled engine however I don't thinking that breaking in the engine and getting transition training are a good mix. I'm a 100 hour Cessna 150 pilot that hasn't flown much over the last 18 months so it'll be a decent transition. My insurance wants me to have 5 hours in Make & Model but I think it'll take me 10ish to get a good handle on things.

So does any one know of an M20C with johnson bar gear that is available for rent with a CFI. I'm based in Washington state but I'm willing to travel.

How are you getting the engine break-in completed?

That is about 10 hours of X-country flying... changing power level every 15 minutes or so...

Put that as part of your TT regimen...

It worked for me sort of... I was transitioning back into flying after some time off... the engine required an OH right in the middle...not a choice I wanted...

Engine Break-in is interesting from an owner point of view... you want to see it taken care of properly...

Long XCs come with all the T/O and landing you want to accomplish...

All this greatness comes at a cost... you get an incredible amount done as you can be flying under the hood at the same time flying in the system if you so desire...or just simulated being in the system... with flight following...

Discuss the plan with your engine guy and your TTer...

you can get many hours of dual purpose flying break-in and TT...

Best regards,

Basically the break in will consist of cross country’s like you said. But mostly 1-3 hour flights depending on my CFIs time.
I’ll get in a few take off and landings but after the first 10 hours we can focus on that more.
