jackn Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 Looking to purchase a borescope. Any suggestions?
richardheitzman Posted July 9, 2011 Report Posted July 9, 2011 Snap On truck maybe or head to a larger city pawn shops with a airport close by. Lots of aviation related tools.
bd32322 Posted July 16, 2011 Report Posted July 16, 2011 Hospitals have surplus endoscopes that work great as borescopes - and they can be had for a bargain - look on ebay. There are also some websites that will sell cheap borescopes made in china - if you dont mind buying such things. I cannot attest to the quality but here is the site if you are interested: www.chinavision.com

jackn Posted July 17, 2011 Author Report Posted July 17, 2011 Just purchased a borescope from snap-on tools. $360.00. fiber optic & video out.
jetdriven Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 Our Beech friends have figured out how to make one. Doctors sure are smart. http://csobeech.com/cylinder-camera.html
TonyPynes Posted September 20, 2011 Report Posted September 20, 2011 I bought one from back east on Ebay and love it. Seller was xinyanwei151982 You plug it into a USB port on a Laptop and copy the exe file to your laptop. Then open the file up and select view and it works video or pics. It was under $25 as I remember it. Took awhile to get here but worth it to me.
jackn Posted September 21, 2011 Author Report Posted September 21, 2011 jetdriven, I think I know Joe. He flys a V35 out of FOK. I'll check it out
kerry Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 I saw a nice one at costco. It had a pretty good size LCD screen.
kerry Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 The borescope I saw at costco is called a wic-3509 and sells online for $300. Costco sell it for $150.

danb35 Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 Looks promising, thanks for the link! I'd like to see a higher resolution, but the small diameter is nice. I have one similar to what's mentioned in the CSOBeech link (which cost a bit more, but is higher resolution), but it's a lot bulkier on the head--just a bit too much so to fit through the spark plug hole. Maybe I just need to break out the Dremel tool...
TonyPynes Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 I was careful to choose one that would fit down a spark plug hole. I am happy with resolution. I will take some pics from it and post later this week.
