Releew Posted September 29, 2018 Report Posted September 29, 2018 Hello all..... Got a Mooney buddy who has a 1985 J model with a gear actuation problem. Gear goes up normally. In the air, when switching gear to the down position the Gear Relay breaker trips On the ground, on stands the gear cycles perfectly. Has anyone heard of the permissive Airspeed switch shorting? Appreciate any input..... Thanks, Rick Quote
Stephen Posted September 29, 2018 Report Posted September 29, 2018 hmmm.... looking at this (takes awhile to load, see if you SN applies, I think they may look low for your 1992 bird..) http://mooney.free.fr/Manuels M20J/M20J/Mooney Service Manuel M20J Vol. 2 of 2.pdf If the relay breaker trips, do you reset it to get the gear down or do the gear lock down per normal, just with indicator lights dark? Where is your throttle position during gear down? Does an advanced throttle while lowering the gear avoid the breaker trip? Quote
Releew Posted September 29, 2018 Author Report Posted September 29, 2018 Thanks..... Each time in the air, a manual deployment was done to get the gear down. On jacks, the gear cycles perfect with the BYPASS switch depressed..... We just put a blower on the pitot tube to replicate airspeed and the problem was duplicated.....tripped the gear relay breaker when deploying the gear to down. Could be the switch is bleeding to ground when it sees airspeed and the gear down switch is triggered. Will focus on that in the morning. Quote
Yetti Posted September 29, 2018 Report Posted September 29, 2018 Replace breaker. Lube gear. All 20 bazillion zerts then triflow the rest of the points of movement Check for damage rods during gear swing. There is an SB for a bolt that could interfere with the gear rods. Lube actuator screw. Could be a relay in the belly Lube gears in actuator. Could be a rubbing wire. check all wires. Quote
larryb Posted September 29, 2018 Report Posted September 29, 2018 I had a similar problem this year. Except for me the breaker tripped on the gear up transition. The screw terminals on the limit switch have almost no clearance to one of the gear rods when the gear is up. There was some linkage that touched a terminal and shorted it out tripping the breaker. The plane needs to be on jacks and the gear retracted to see this. This could be your problem. Quote
