N201MKTurbo Posted February 1, 2018 Report Posted February 1, 2018 Well, now that I'm a big time commercial drone pilot I thought I would post a video of last Sunday's hike. 8 miles (RT) of hopping from boulder to boulder up to some water pools in the middle of the desert. The wind was very strong and gusty. The drone did an amazing job. The drone was pitching and rolling like crazy while this was being filmed but the camera gimbals did their job quite well. BTW I had nothing to do with flying the drone. I was just an observer. I'm the guy on the left on the rock. I asked Chris if he checked airspace and notams before he flew and he said the drone app does it automatically. It will not fly if you are not good to go. If you want to fly it in any airspace you have to email the drone company with your waver or clearence info and they will enable it. Enjoy.... 3 Quote
carusoam Posted February 1, 2018 Report Posted February 1, 2018 Rich, Got any details on the hardware you used for this? I know a guy... Best regards, -a- Quote
thinwing Posted February 1, 2018 Report Posted February 1, 2018 I am assuming DJI aircraft....Phantom4,Mavic Pro or Inspire.....tell your pilot to use the editing features that come with these...i.e. How to use filters and add color post production...The editing features in DJI GO 4 are very helpful.... Did you get a new certificate, too, or did he FAA add your new sUAS rating to your old "real" one? Jim Expand Don't know yet. I only have a temporary. I've heard that I will get a different certificate. I'll let you know when it comes. Quote

Expand I don't know exactly. you are right it is a DJI. Chris has a backpack for it for hiking and 3 spare batteries. We used the first battery to figure out the waypoints and make the flight plan. The second flight was only as long as the video and mostly automatic. I'll text him to see what model it is. OK, he says it is a Phantom 4 Pro. 1 Quote

The Remote Pilot pilot certificate has a different look and doesn't show the Wright brothers. Quote

Expand I thought so ,cause the video looks just like videos shot in d-log with no editing or post production...it produces a video that is kinda of flat and colorless, with a faded out sky.Another helpful trick is to shoot while in cinematic mode or even tripod...this reduces stick sensitivity for a smoother look. Finally ,use of a ND filter, say ND 16 or even ND 32 for shooting in bright sunlight...this allows the camera to operate with the recommended shutter speed of twice the frame rate. Its like sunglasses for your camera and at 30 frames second shutter speed should be 1/60 sec.Impressive location ,thanks for posting!
