tls pilot Posted August 5, 2017 Report Posted August 5, 2017 Any suggestions how to easily tighten the mixture control nut? I can only get a finger on the back (behind the panel) nut while attempting to tighten the front nut. The cable wants to turn with the front nut. I would appreciate any suggestions, especially since I fly again tomorrow. I took the side panel off, co pilots side, near the mixture control. But the tubular structure makes it difficult to get to the rear nut Quote
FoxMike Posted August 5, 2017 Report Posted August 5, 2017 I have never looked at that problem but you might try channel locks or vice grips. Try not to mar the nut. Sometimes you can use a screwdriver to put between the mixture and prop nuts hold the mixture nut. Quote
KSMooniac Posted August 5, 2017 Report Posted August 5, 2017 You need a crow foot wrench, or the special tool that McFarlane sells. I just saw it at OSH and didn't know it existed...wish I did a few years ago!Sent from my LG-US996 using Tapatalk Quote
takair Posted August 6, 2017 Report Posted August 6, 2017 You might do a variation of FMs screw driver trick. If you can get the tip of a screwdriver blade near the apex of one of the nut flats, you may be able to get some torque on it or at least hold the nut while turning the outer nut. This has worked for me in the past when I could not get to those nuts. Not exactly textbook, but.... Quote
