TheTurtle Posted November 25, 2016 Report Posted November 25, 2016 2 questions. Stopped for gas today. after fill up noticed fuel leaking from the drain just forward of the nose gear. Never seen it come from there in the 30 or so hours Ive had it. Popped off the cowl and noticed both rubber hoses going to the metal drain were cracked almost off and there were no hose clamps... Looks like just some standard fuel line which Ill pay 8x as much at spruce for... But checking the manual it looks like its part number 610152-13. Googling that gives me nothing. I cut off a small peice to go match up but wondering if anybody knows the correct size and if its supposed to be something other than bulk fuel line. Second question is what makes it drain fuel from there? I called the prior owner and he mentioned it blows off pressure from there and if you shut off the engine without idleing long enough etc if may do that. Sound reasonable? I did give it a little gas before shutdown because I had to climb a little hill to the fuel pump.
takair Posted November 25, 2016 Report Posted November 25, 2016 You may get some drops as the fuel injector lines boil and bubble fuel into the intake manifold due to heating. The drain is to prevent flooding and comes out of a fitting with a small ball check valve, aka sniffle valve. The line is low pressure fuel line. More than a few drops may indicate that the fuel divider not shutting off. 1
TheTurtle Posted November 25, 2016 Author Report Posted November 25, 2016 fuel divider also called a fuel distributor? Doesnt seem to have a part number. It dripped out maybe a tablespoon total.
takair Posted November 25, 2016 Report Posted November 25, 2016 Yes, that's it. Tablespoon seems reasonable. 1
Guest Posted November 26, 2016 Report Posted November 26, 2016 The exit fitting on the lower cowl has 2 drain/vent hoses attached to it. One from the engine fuel pump vent and one from the intake sniffle valve. The hose is normally Mil H 6000-4 (1/4") with hose clamps. Some venting of fuel is normal as long as it's coming from the intake sniffle valve, it's draining any fuel from the intake system. Clarence
TheTurtle Posted November 27, 2016 Author Report Posted November 27, 2016 (edited) We swapped the hose from sniffle valve to exit fitting no problem. Next we went to change the rubber hose from fuel pump to exit fitting. Theres no way in hell to get a hand or anything else in there to 1. loosen the hose clamp and 2 actually pull it off. So I removed the fitting from the fuel pump nipple. Found a big crack in the metal tube... so Im glad I pulled it off completely. Got a new fitting with a 45 already in it which goes straight to rubber hose. similar to this. One more project down. On to the brake master cylinder rebuild. Got the parts from Lasar yesterday. takair Posted November 27, 2016 Report Posted November 27, 2016 Fairly rare to see that. I suspect it had been cracked for a while. On a real fluid line, you would have been alerted long before it cracked that bad. Good catch! Keep us posted on any tips for the master cylinders, especially bleading them. 1
