N400YS Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 Hi guys I would like to have advise on scat tubing. Actually it is a pain to insert a new scat tube on the metal duct and perhaps you have tricks to make it easier? Thanks Quote
carusoam Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 Give us a hint on which scat tubing connected to what duct.... A photo would be ultra helpful. My old M20C had all the aluminum ducts shaped to a cone, more or less... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote

I am asking for advise regarding the way how to insert properlly a scat tubing: Do I have to remove a part of the wire in order to improve introduction of the duct? Is it mandatory to leave all the scat wire on the metal tubing before tightening the collar? Thanks for help Quote
carusoam Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 I have seen that answer before... Might be able to search for it... Best regards, -a- Quote
Andy95W Posted August 27, 2016 Report Posted August 27, 2016 You'll want to remove about 1/2 -1 inch of wire. http://eaavideo.org/video.aspx?v=971229645001 2 Quote
N400YS Posted August 27, 2016 Author Report Posted August 27, 2016 I perhaps find a biginning of answer using SCEET tubing that is double walled so easier to put on metal tubing! Thanks Andy for the very good source of videos! Quote

In those cases the wire should extend over the metal tube. Clarence Quote
BillC Posted August 28, 2016 Report Posted August 28, 2016 Try http://customducts.net/ I've had all my scat tubes done here. Plane and Boat. 2 Quote

Jim F Posted August 28, 2016 Report Posted August 28, 2016 For the SCAT the method I use is simaler to the EAA vidio but take the 90 degree wire and put over the metal pipe you are connecting to. Then the worn clamp holds the wire 90degree tab and the hose. That way the wire can't find its way into the carburetor. Also I would put a dab of high temp silicon on the string so it would not pull off. SCEET has the inner tube and should not be used on anything that can pull a slight vacuum. The inner wall will suck in and block airflow. 1 Quote

If the metal tube as quite the same size as the scat duct , I have great difficulties to pass the wire on... Do you have a method to enlarge the duct end a bit? thanks Quote

Expand Thanks Bill, I was looking for this link having bought from them before. He does a great job. Removes the wire a few inches from the end and creates a silicon sealed reinforced area that easily slips over the mounting area. Russ 1 Quote
Jim F Posted August 28, 2016 Report Posted August 28, 2016 Here is a photo of what I do. If you remove the string it will expand a little. Again put a dab of RTV on the cut end of the string so it doesn't unravel. Quote

Guest Posted December 27, 2016 Report Posted December 27, 2016 You'd be able to sell at least 100 here at $25.00 each. We are talking about the home of CB's after all. Clarence Quote
Raptor05121 Posted December 27, 2016 Report Posted December 27, 2016 I paid $160 for mine from LASAR. Not bad considering the old one was 53 years old Quote

Clarence Expand I don't have a dog in the fight, as I fly a K model, but if I were in it, I would suggest you ask around and find about 5 people who need one, or figure they will soon. Then quiz Gee-Bee about how much he needs to get production going and build x number of them. Then have each of your 5 contribute equal amounts to invest that amount. Have one of the trusted guys take possession, distribute them and collect a fair(ish) price until you get your investments back. (Plus a little for your risk if you so desire). At that time, you have a source available. 1 Quote

Custom Ducts Posted February 14, 2021 Report Posted February 14, 2021 Yes, order your Sceet and Scat from Custom Ducts!!! Tell them the inside diameter and length and they will send you a new hose with custom molded ends!! So you will not need to mess around with cutting the wire or worrying about the string in unraveling. They are so easy to install. customducts.net 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted February 14, 2021 Report Posted February 14, 2021 I have custom ducts on my plane. The cost is reasonable and they look great. The ends will out last the rest of the duct. Quote
