I just completed this mod this morning, I tried to take lots of pictures for you guys. It took me about three hours to complete- the hardest part being removing the torque plates and drilling new holes in the right spot. I'll try posting the pics in chronological order, also changed out the left main tire while I had it off. Enjoy:

Does the STC require drilling new holes?

Scroll up to the text above the photos. Holes must be drilled. I need to do this some time . . .

Its one of the easier and cheaper mods to do.  The only problem I ran into was that my old brake lines were stiff and not quite long enough so we had to make up 2 new ones that were slightly longer.

The STC states that later models with Cleveland brakes p/n 30-56A with torque plate p/n 075-01600 need to have the holes drilled. Early Mooneys just pull the torque plate bolts, rotate it, and reinstall the torque plate in the new position. And reroute the hydraulic line, of course. I'm guessing the speed increase is neglible, but it's a lot easier to take a look at the brakes when preflighting. If you frequent grass strips, this mod might not be for you. I'd think the calipers would catch a lot of grass. Anyone have experience with this?

If any of you have the 201 style gear doors, this mod wont work with those. It does, however, work with the fiberglass gear doors that used to be sold by Modworks.

Byron - do you know if anyone who has a late model F has ever been able to add the J inner gear doors?

I was going to ask if you had to extend the lines, thanks for the heads up. Everything seems pretty strait forward. But was there anything else that came up unexpected, and did you notice any change in braking power? All in all looks like a worthwhile mod.

people have added the J gear doors to everything from a C to an F model, I think they were usually done on a 337. Maxwell cautions people in some article he wrote with manual gear not to do it, but I've seen planes with them.

Mr brake lines were ok, but I could see them being an issue if they were old and stiff. It was pretty straight forward. I took my time drilling the holes and everything else was just a bolt on operation. I wasn't as impressed as I thought once I completed the mod and retracted the gear- it seems like the calipers are still in the slipstream quite a bit. Haven't had a chance to flight test it yet.

Hello, friends!  The photos that were posted on this page of the before/during/after the brake rotation no longer load.  Might anyone have any before/after photos of their STC'd brake situation?  Or at least some after photos.  Thanks!

I think this picture might have come from the LASAR website…
