There is a nice country airport in the northern suburbs of Atlanta (Cherokee County, KCNI) that routinely has competitive gas prices. While stopping in one day for fuel I was talking to the FBO gal, and she told me their formula for pricing. I can't remember exactly what it was, but I think it came to about an $.80/gallon markup over their wholesale cost. I think that's a pretty fair margin to pay for the convenience, and since they do enough volume to buy at competitive rates, you can tell just how much the big FBOs are gouging you for their gas.

But to be fair, there's gouging, and then there's GOUGING. At PDK, you get an advantage by being close to town, having nice counter service and accommodating staff, and the Epps ($5.30) and Atlantic Aviation ($5.92) rates are at least in the ballpark. Then there's Signature, which at $7.12 must be really in love with their AvGas because they sure can't sell very much of it!

If I didn't fly for 5 months or more, I would not be worried about price of fuel.

Actually, I've been flying lots.

I've been buying cheaper fuel on the road and only using "my" high priced fuel for convenience since my tank is right at my hangar.  At the rate I'm going, my high priced fuel will last another month, or two and I'm hoping fuel will be even cheaper when I need to fill the tank again.

Paid 3.23 a gallon today at Cable airport just northwest of Ontario California.  I wish I was empty..could only take 12 gallons.

Has anyone seen it cheaper this week? where?

After reading this I flew over and filled up. My home base just recently changed to Corona KAJO so it was a quick hop.

What do hangars and tie downs cost at AJO?

I had my plane painted there last year and I just flew in there a few weeks ago for aircraft spruce ……

I've got a big T-hangar on the west end of the field with corona executive hangars and its $400 with lights and power. tie Downs with them use to be $60 they may have gone up. I'm new to this field but so far I like it. I've also only flown in for spruce.

How did your paint come out? I'd love to see your plane whenever you fly into AJO

Plane came out fine.  I rate it a 7 out of 10 on the work they did.  It was a sand and paint touch up on all of the trim.  I will let you know when I get back there.  I have a 64 M20C that was feeling the pain of a 40kt hw today from LAS to VNY.....had 99 kt gs almost the whole way.

Nut tree still the lowest in NorCal at 3.87 most are still around mid 4 dollar with plenty over 5 and even some above 6 per gallon. It's great that prices have been staying down but since I fly a 20C fuel prices have never been an issue last trip to STS I had them top it off and they could only squeeze 11 gallons in.

Just an update, KMCC is down to $3.71 and I think is now the cheapest around here now!

Fuel prices around ATL are just crazy.....KATL is still priced at almost $9/gallon, KPDK you can buy it at $5.10 at the self serve pump, KRYY on the northside $5.87, 25 nm south of ATL, it's going for about $4 at various airports, but down southeast KPIM and KLGC are within a penny of $3.20.

The price spread between KPIM and KATL is close to $6/gallon!  Even considering the old adage "location, location, location, that is almost incomprehensible.

Well, not many folks would ever land a piston aircraft at Hartsfield-Jackson so they don't sell much of it I'm guessing. Any anybody who WOULD land a piston aircraft there probably wouldn't care about the price.

PDK does still seem to be on the high side, but within 30 miles you've got CNI and WDR both at $3.7x. That's for those of us who live north of ATL and don't feel like dealing with the airspace. If you're on the south side, yes, Pine Mountain and LaGrange are awesome places to go. But I still haven't seen anybody beat the price I got at Kennett MO during the Thanksgiving holiday...$2.97 and holding strong, baby!

When I left Europe this past summer, that was the cost of gas that goes in your car.  Diesel was a little cheaper, but not by much.  I don't even want to guess what they are paying for AVGAS over there.

I'm happy to pay the $2.85 a gallon for my car and the $4.15 a gallon price tag for 100LL at KRNO based on that experience.  :)

Cheers,

Brian

Fuel is coming down here too

In Switzerland, car gas is about CHF1.35 a litre,  diesel a little more. Over the border in France (where I'm hangared) last months avgas was EUR1.53 a litre - hopefully another 5 or 10 cents cheaper this month
