cliffy Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Seems to be a big fire burning around Clear Lake near LASAR 100 sq miles big! Quote
bonal Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Since it's only about 10 miles from home I recon I might comment. It's been burning for 6 days in some really rough country with perfect conditions for a big fire to get bigger. It's gone over 70,000 acres but since the 3rd day moving away from home but the first two days we were really watching as it was moving closer. Thousands of fire crews from all over but as usual there a over a dozen fires burning around the state so they spread them pretty thin but this one is the largest. I've been working our recovery efforts as the fire is centered around my service territory lots of distribution and transmission lines down dozens of burnt poles. Many more to come as we are just getting assessment underway. Quote
Rik Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 I was doing my first X Country to KSAC on the morning the fire started and I could see the plume of smoke rising.. It's big!! Quote
bonal Posted August 10, 2015 Report Posted August 10, 2015 Today we saw no visible header and not much smoke haze so just as they get this one under control as we are heading home from the airport I spot a new header a little further to the south and now that one looks like a working fire with a big build up. Fire season sucks Quote
DaV8or Posted August 10, 2015 Report Posted August 10, 2015 I picked up my plane from LASAR on Friday. Flew past the TFR still in effect. I couldn't see any smoke anywhere. The fire never got anywhere close to LASAR really. BTW, if you think you might want some work done by LASAR and would like it done quick, now is the time. Their shop is a ghost town right now. Empty hangar. They banged my annual out fast because I was the only plane there I think. Quote
Rik Posted August 10, 2015 Report Posted August 10, 2015 May I ask what an Annual from LASR cost? Quote
M016576 Posted August 10, 2015 Report Posted August 10, 2015 May I ask what an Annual from LASR cost? If you have to ask, you can't afford it. 2 Quote
DaV8or Posted August 10, 2015 Report Posted August 10, 2015 May I ask what an Annual from LASR cost? Not cheap. I imagine the cost varies from model to model, but my F model cost about $2500 not including the materials. Of course any corrective squawks taken care of after that are additional. Quote

Thanks, just wondering as LASR have a good Rep and they are close to my location so if/when I get a plane I didn't know if they are reasonable to do business with or are over priced due to the Bay Area clientele? DonMuncy Posted August 11, 2015 Report Posted August 11, 2015 Lasar and its people are top notch. They are one of the more knowledgeable Mooney resources in the country and very generous with their help and advice. I really don't know how their prices relate to others nearby, but unless someone responds that they are very overpriced, I would pay some more for their services. Quote
