Browncbr1 Posted June 4, 2015 Report Posted June 4, 2015 does anyone know a good inexpensive source for the tie down ring that is on the tail of a 67F? It's screws in to hold the tail dragger bar Quote
Alan Fox Posted June 4, 2015 Report Posted June 4, 2015 I would replace it with a tie down from a J , gets rid of the big plate , saves about a lb way out in the tail , looks a hell of a lot better and uses the same bolt spacing.... Quote
Browncbr1 Posted June 4, 2015 Author Report Posted June 4, 2015 Well, that bar saved my rudder today. I think I'll keep it. But I lost the ring/bolt. Quote
carusoam Posted June 4, 2015 Report Posted June 4, 2015 Lasar has an option. Check the spacing between the bolts. My 65C was slightly different than the one Lasar used for the design... Some hole widening of the new piece may be required. Best regards, -a- Quote
Browncbr1 Posted June 4, 2015 Author Report Posted June 4, 2015 I am just looking for the tie down ring bolt Quote
carusoam Posted June 4, 2015 Report Posted June 4, 2015 The Mooney eye bolt appears to be aviation related. It is thin and light. My C's had been ground down prior to my ownership. Have you tried an MSC? I am looking forward to finding the mark-up on the 1$ item. Best regards, -a- Quote
Browncbr1 Posted June 4, 2015 Author Report Posted June 4, 2015 Hadn't tried a msc yet, as its after hours now. But thought maybe someone knows of a general supplier of these basic eye bolts. They seem like standard parts. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted June 4, 2015 Report Posted June 4, 2015 May be close... http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pspages/tieDowneye.php?clickkey=21809 <$10..., -a- Quote
Browncbr1 Posted June 4, 2015 Author Report Posted June 4, 2015 I also saw these http://www.mcmaster.com/#eyebolts/=xhdh8p But does anyone know the size threads? I suppose I could go to the hardware store to see if they have a nut that I could fit on the threads of what is left of the broken eyebolt Quote
Browncbr1 Posted June 5, 2015 Author Report Posted June 5, 2015 I think I've found something local... Â Actually, the eyebolt that was on there previously looked like basic hardware from ACE or lowes..... It seems that part had been hit and replaced once before already... Â Quote
triple8s Posted June 5, 2015 Report Posted June 5, 2015 I'd go to KMOR they will have an original OEM ring and it wont cost an arm, leg and left € Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted June 5, 2015 Report Posted June 5, 2015 It is a stainless steel hoisting eyebolt get it from McMaster Carr. It is about $14 Quote
Browncbr1 Posted June 5, 2015 Author Report Posted June 5, 2015 For future reference for anyone on MS, the eyebolt threads are 1/4, 28 pitch...  Thanks for the suggestion to go to KMOR Mike.. I'll do that when I get back from Asia, hopefully you could come too!  Quote

Browncbr1 Posted June 6, 2015 Author Report Posted June 6, 2015 Threads are 1/4-28. Difficult to find this in stainless... McMaster-Carr has it, but not in stainless. I have a temporary solution though. Quote
Hank Posted June 6, 2015 Report Posted June 6, 2015 McMaster. Grainger. MSC (www.mscdirect.com). Your local industrial supply store (Dixie Bearings, anyone?). Maybe even Tractor Supply or your local dealer for John Deere, International, Massey Ferguson, Kubota or the red tractors from India whose name I can't recall right now. Eye bolt, stainless steel (get 420 or 440, NOT 316; it will be magnetic). 1/4-28 threads (fine pitch). Shouldn't be expensive. Quote
Guest Posted June 6, 2015 Report Posted June 6, 2015 The thread is normally a 5/16" NC thread Clarence Quote

Hank Posted June 6, 2015 Report Posted June 6, 2015 Mahindra Yep, that's it. Just take whatever's left and make sure the threads match; that's the easy, foolproof way. Quote
StinkBug Posted June 7, 2015 Report Posted June 7, 2015 The thread is normally a 5/16" NC thread Clarence  The ones in the wing are 5/16 coarse, but the tail is 1/4 fine. Quote
Yetti Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 The ones in the wing are 5/16 coarse, but the tail is 1/4 fine.  Yours wings may have been retapped.  5/16 fine thread was what I found. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 The rings on my old F stripped out, so I got rings with longer bolts and put nuts up in the wings. You have to trim one side of the nut, but it worked great for 19 years. Quote
