Introducing the latest Commercial Pilot

Recommended Posts

Congratulations Erik.

Thank you Dave!

Great job.  I knew you would pass with flying (pun intended) colors.

Congratulations Erik..... I had no doubt you would do great!

Rocket On!

Thank you fellow rocketeers!  :-)

I have the King online commercial get it all course and have finished it once. Looking forward to trying the maneuvers with my cfi but need to finish ifr first. Are you going to go for the cfi?

Martha sure has great hair.....

No CFI at this time - maybe someday in the future.  I teach for a day job - I am a math professor - and it takes a lot of emotional energy to be a good teacher (I hope I am a good one) to invest in your students.  Flying is sort of one of my escapes.  I have thought a lot about this and I feel like at this time that if I were to teach flying it might overlap too much my work in a way that would not allow me to recharge my emotional energy for my math students.  I could totally see teaching flying when (if) I retire from the professor biz.  I am more likely that my next ratings would be multi, then eventually maybe atp.  There is a local part 135 business I could see being a stand-by first officer for occasionally maybe.  Mostly I did it though because I like the idea of being flown around by a well trained commercial pilot - and since I am doing the flying - I figured I better get training!  Plus it was fun and it definitely raised my game. I highly recommend.

I was at an FBO in IL yesterday and someone said that only 40 Commercial certificates were issued last year.  Have not had a chance to verify, but that would make it very rare air.

No kidding?  Can anyone here confirm that?  This seems to incredible to be true.  Could it be that there were 40 commercial certs awarded in IL last year?  Hard to believe it would be the whole country.  Who will fly the airlines in the future?

I checked and I think the person must have misunderstood the numbers.  His statement was that the FAA only had approved 40 commercial tickets last year.  Strictly speaking, that might be correct.  The 2014 numbers are not up on the FAA's site, but the FAA Inspectors approved 37 in 2013.  However, that omits the close-to 6,000 approved by Examiners in 2013.

CONGRATULATIONS ERIK!!!

I'm glad you knocked this out.  I'll be calling you with any questions as I get ready for mine.  I need to just knock out the written to get things rolling!

I have all my requirements complete.  Your advice on how to use the Missile/Rocket in the power off 180 proved advantageous.

I'm just glad you got this done before the semester started.  Instead of a CFI as your next step, what about a tail dragger rating?  Or seaplane rating over the summer?

Take care,

-Seth
