We now have 5 Mooneys based at KMRN, My old E, a nice '67F, and 3 very nice Js, three of us are on MS now, we're feeling our oats a little bit and are starting to plan a Mooney Fly In with a tentative date of 11/8. I think there are active Mooney Groups in VA and North and GA and South but I don't know of anything very active in between. I'd love to be corrected.

We have a great FBO, willing to help and promote anything we want to do:

Comments are welcome, particularly any ideas for activities, workshops, speakers, avionic shop, FAA folks... no promises but we'll see what we can do.

You are going to need a name for your gaggle.

Select one quickly or one will be assigned to you.

I think that's how it works.

Your airport sure looks nice.

Best regards,

Oh, that sounds great! Y'all let swamp dwellers come play? Plan us some nice, calm, no-ice weather, now.

You bet you're welcome young lady! I've heard that folks in Chowan County think Jockey Ridge is a mountain so we might have something different to show off. But we'd love to visit Edenton again some time if folks down there throw a party.

Let's fire up your Ovation and take a trip!

This might be a strange first post on MS but our schedule looks good on 11/15 and this sounds like fun, a good reason to take a trip in our new (to us) M20F! Please count us in.

Any others from ATL heading over?

Should be a blast good luck. looks like a real nice place to be home. Someday I look forward to flying out that way when there is more time for a long trip like that. As always take lots of pics.

1950 nm KVCB-KMRN. Yeah, long trip. Even in a Mooney.

Actually it's 1o2 so add another 57nm otherwise no problem. Longest to date just under 800 miles to Missoula MT. Some day we will make the coast to coast trip.

Give me the details once you get it figured out and I'll post it through the Southeast Mooney mailing list. We've got around a hundred or so folk on the list from the general Southeast area. Many of them follow Mooneyspace but probably not a majority.  I look forward to it!

Will do Jeff. (I signed on to SE Mooney last night. I thought I had done that a while back when we discussed but I may not have noticed the acknowledgement requirement.) What does your group have scheduled in November, anything besides the AOPA thingy 11/8 @ KSSI?

We have a top notch CFII+ with a lot of Mooney experience based here who in response to my inquiry is willing "to provide a safety seminar. Perhaps a proficiency plan for staying up to speed on Emergency procedures in the Mooney?"

I'm supposing that that would really be of interest and value...?

Mooneys to the NC Moutains?

Chris, if you do get with Anthony & come down we could have a few minutes of Q&A re Paws and Angels, One of our Mooney owners at MRN is a long time Angel Flights pilot. Also Gary Jensen, one of our MRN guys, says that weekend is available and he would give fellow Mooniacs a good rate:

This sounds great! I may combine it with a family visit to 33A. Here's hoping for decent weather.

Let us know if you're coming down, Anthony.

Okay, Marauder is already plotting a course around the DCA airspace to KMRN :

  • When? Saturday 11/15,
  • What? "Mooneys to the NC Mountains"
  • Where? KMRN Foothills Regional Airport (formerly Morganton/Lenoir) http://foothillsairport.com/
  • Foothills Regional Airport will provide lunch.
  • Accommodations at the Switzerland Inn @ Little Switzerland NC are available @ 1/2 regular rate. The Inn will provide transportation to and from the airport if folks can be on a schedule together. (If there are enough people that elect to stay there Gary can arrange a banquet meal for Saturday night.) Contact Gary direct @ https://switzerlandinn.com/
  • We're planning sessions on staying current for emergency procedures in our Mooneys, Brandon NeSmith. http://tablerockaviation.com/
  • Our regional FAAST team coordinator Al Bormuth will be putting together a program for credit as well.
  • If none of that appeals, we're close to Boone and Blowing Rock, the Blue Ridge Parkway and much more. Golfers are welcome to check out our wonderful 1929 Donald Ross layout Mimosa Hills. http://mimosahills.org/ Come early and I'll dust off my sticks.

Please pass the word, our facilities can handle as many Mooneys as can get here!
