captainglen Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 I am rather disappointed in the mooney M20C Pilot Opperating Handbook takeoff performance pages. In particular the lack of data for high density altitudes which should be within the aircraft's capabilities. Does anyone know of a source for enhanced takeoff performance data for the M20C? I was of course also disappointed in the total lack of emergency checklists but have written my own QRH (quick reference handbook) with a full set of emergency proceedures. These are not just copied from other aircraft but compiled logically to conform to the unique systems of the M20C. Quote
Hank Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 Yeah, the Emergency section is a joke, both pages of it. I started developing my own, but never finished it up [seven years later . . . ] Much of it is common sense. Pitch for 105 windmilling, 100 seized. Learn to crank down the gear [had to do it once after electrical failure took out everything]. For fire, either kill the master [electrical] or shut off the fuel [engine fire]; learn to tell them apart. Vents closed for fire. Learn emergency descents--45º banked spirals will get you down 1500-2000 fpm at pretty close to indicated cruise speed. I've not seen any Takeoff data for higher than 5000' which is below ground level in much of the West. On the other hand, your runways tend to be longer; my trip to Cody, WY was not a problem departing, temp in the low 60s and plane at gross; field elevation is 5100 msl. Even here in the southeast, DA can pass 3000' for field elevation in the 200-300 msl range, but I've not had any problems. Maybe Piperpainter can contribute, he flies his C into back country fields with his tailwheel buddies. If he doesn't respond here, look for him on YouTube. Fly safe! Quote
carusoam Posted September 20, 2014 Report Posted September 20, 2014 Glen, What version of the C's POH do you have? The factory had advised me (in 2000) that the 1977 C's POH was most up to date for my '65C. Unfortunately, it is not as modern as the POH of the J or R. Have you ever used a tool like CloudAhoy to measure your own T/O performance? With tools like this, supplemented with a WAAS GPS, while taking notes on DA and T, would make a great collection of notes...! Best regards, -a- Quote

carusoam Posted September 21, 2014 Report Posted September 21, 2014 I got my copy from the Mooney factory in 2000. This way I also got the advice of what is appropriate for my airframe. Best regards, -a- Quote
