I have a 1978, from my reading of the FAR 91.205.B.11 (TOMATO FLAMES), tells me that they are not required for VFR day flight (only if post 1996). My plane is in annual, and I have a problem with the power supply, so I was going to replace it with the new Whelen LED version (which doesn't require the power supply), unfortunately there is an 8 week delay, so my question is they an airworthiness item and required to be fixed in order to pass an annual??

Let me see if I can find the shop that I ordered my Whelen from.  They had abundant stock of the strobes and the landing lights when everyone else was on backorder.

Not sure if you're interested or not, but I was able to obtain my LED Beacon and Landing light through Wilco even when the "big distributors" were on backorder.  I worked with Mike Smith ( m.smith@wilco.to ) and he handled things perfectly, including responding to my initial email within 30 minutes.

The full contact information below was provided to me directly from Whelen after I contacted them looking for a supplier with stock available.

THANKS!! :D

They had them in stock...they also were running a special on the older Landing/Taxi lights, so I pick a couple of them up while I'm at it.

What was the damage on the older style lights?

Don't remember exactly, ~$175, since I have 4, I figure I don't need to have the new brighter versions, with LEDs I'll be able to used both pairs.
