hnorber Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 I recently purchased a 1991 MSE and wonder whether anyone can help me with the following 2 questions: 1. Is the pin in the top, forward area of the door supposed to retract when the door handle is opened? Recently, I noticed that my door seemed to be 'misalligned' - and then I realized that this pin was blocking the door from closing. I can gently guide it into the corresponding hole of the door frame with my fingers as I close the door, and then all is well and the latches all close perfectly - but when I don't guide it in that manner, sometimes the pin will block the door from closing. 2. Could the fact that my wing sump was draining super slowly be the result of ice in my fuel tank (bladder)? I recently was pre-flighting following an extreme cold spell. On this paticular day it had warmed up to about 32 degrees. My right sump was barely draining. I decided to start the plane and fiddle with a few things while the engine warmed up. After about 15 minutes of running the engine near idle, I shut down and re-sumped the right wing. The fuel drained at a much quicker pace (still a bit slower than normal). I flew a couple of laps around the pattern and then checked the sump again and it was draining normally. I'm very concerned about possible water conatimation since I park outside. I have O & N bladders that I think were installed around 1998. Any thoughts as to whether the reason for the slow draining could have been ice (and whether my pattern work or the friction of fuel flowing to the engine might have moved or melted the ice)? Thanks in advance! -Howard Quote
M20F-1968 Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 The pin at the forward upper part of the passenger door is static, and should fit into an opening in the door frame. The adjustment should be that the tip if the pin fits into the airframe when the doos closes (without any nned to play with it) and the opening in the door frame should ride along the pin as you close the door. The pin should hold the top of the door in and in flight, should prevent the door from being sucked outward as occurs in the negitive pressure around the airframe. No, the pin does not move and there is no mechanical linkage attached to it. It simply needs to be positioned correctly on the door relative to the cut-out in the airframe into which it fits. carusoam Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Ice can cause slow draining of the tanks... Water descends to the sumps and freezes. Coarse crystals usually appear in the sumped fuel. Get to the warmth of a maintenance hanger overnight to find out. It is unusual for O&N bladders to have water. But, storing outside can make for unusual thing to happen... Check when the O-rings were changed out of the fuel caps last. Probably different than standard Mooney caps... That's my M20C experience, -a- Quote
