TTaylor Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 We are in the middle of an annual and the bulb that lights the window for gear down confirmation is very dim. I looked in the parts manual last night but only find a number for the assembly. Does anyone have a bulb number and can you buy this locally or where do you get one?
DonMuncy Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 In my 231, the light was so dim as to be worthless. I checked the manual and it called for a 28v bulb. My hangar elves changed the bulb to the equivalent 12v, and it works fine. If no one pops up with the correct bulb #, I will see if I can figure out which one I used.
Marauder Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 I think it is a 330 but let me go check and make sure.
Marauder Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 Tim -- I think I found every other bulb listed in the service manual but that one. Most of the bulbs in our 75s are 330s (annunciation warning, map, gear up and gear down lights). There are some exceptions, the glare shield and overhead lights are a couple. If it is a 330, there are LED equivalents available from Aircraft Spruce.
TTaylor Posted January 4, 2014 Author Report Posted January 4, 2014 Don and Chris, Thanks for checking. Chris, the bulb for the indicator has a threaded base and most of the 330 I see are bayonet base. Is there a 330 with threads? Thanks, Tim

TTaylor Posted January 4, 2014 Author Report Posted January 4, 2014 I didn't get to get an image but it looks like: http://www.uklightbulbs.co.uk/sei/s/1653/e/mes4-8vrde10.jpg The threads are about 7.8 mm in diameter. This is smaller than a standard E10. A bright LED would be nice. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

I am going out to the airport tomorrow and will see if I have one in my bulb box with a number on it.
Marauder Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 I wonder if it is a GE G3 bulb: http://www.grainger.com/search?searchQuery=GE+g3 This page has better dimensions for comparison: http://genet.gelighting.com/LightProducts/Dispatcher?REQUEST=COMMERCIALSPECPAGE&PRODUCTCODE=27252&BreadCrumbValues=CATG,_Lamps_Miniature_G Shape_G3.5 (G3 1/2)&SearchFieldCode=null
OR75 Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 if it is like on the J model, I believe it would be a GE 327 type light bulb. it would be worth removing the plexiglas or plastic part and clean it for better brightness.
TTaylor Posted January 4, 2014 Author Report Posted January 4, 2014 The 1449 makes sense it is used in toy trains as the headlight. All the specs match up to the planes 14 volt systems. I will remeasure the base tomorrow, I measured 7.8 mm today which is the only part that doesn't match the E10 specifications. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Marauder Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Tim -- did you find the bulb number? Never made it out to the airport and probably won't for a couple more days.
TTaylor Posted January 7, 2014 Author Report Posted January 7, 2014 Chris - No luck so far. The bulb threads are 7.8 mm in diameter, too small to be a E10 type bulb. I have left a message at Mooney and hopefully will hear something back in the next two days. I have designed an bright LED to replace it if I can not find the right bulb but only want to use that as a last resort.

Ok -- I will make a run out to the airport this afternoon and check my bulb supply.
Guest Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Floor mounted gear position indicator bulb, GE 327, you need a 5/16" slim ignition wrench to loosen the mounting collar. Sometimes the bulb sticks in the collar. Clarence
OR75 Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 GE 327 .... Thats what I wrote above too , but the GE 327 is not threaded, so ???
TTaylor Posted January 8, 2014 Author Report Posted January 8, 2014 Thanks for all the help everyone. The factory says it should be a GE 330. All we can tell is someone may have changed it long ago to the current threaded type. I can not find anything that matches the bulb, it falls between the E5 and E10 bases. I will look for a replacement base to modify it back to standard.

I have a bunch of 330s and another one which I believe is the instrument panel brow bulb. The 330s do come in an LED version. I had a few of them in my bulb box as well. Part number from Aircraft Spruce is 11-09629. Also saw your post on the rear window -- looking good. I'll PM you about windows for the things I would need to convert mine. Do like the look of the single piece. Nice job.
