aaronk25 Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 We removed the old ones from 1994 and found one with the rubber completely separated and other 3 were worn pretty significantly. The new ones even have a gel type vibration dampened in them. Wow what a dramatic drop in vibration! I wonder sometime when folks overhaul a engine, and install new mounts at the same time how much of the "new feel" comes from the mounts. What a PITA to change. I helped assist Chuck at Dodge Center Aviation, (in MN). Still sore from helping push/pull on the prop to help torque the motor out of the way. Talk about no room! Quote
NotarPilot Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 How much were the mounts and how many hours of labor did they take to replace? Quote
Bob_Belville Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 The mount cost vary some by model. We just bought a set of Lords for my E. $148.75 ea @ A. Spruce (4 required.) Barry's are a little cheaper but most everyone who weighed in preferred Lord. Everyone says they are a pain to install, (half day?) Easier for me since the engine has been out. Quote
aaronk25 Posted December 21, 2013 Author Report Posted December 21, 2013 I haven't hot the bill yet but I bet we had 5 hours to change them and that was with me running the cherry picker and pulling/pushing on the prop to help create enough room to remove and replace mounts . They sure got the oink out of the pig as far as not wasting any space when they designed the engine mount frame! Quote

Real PITA but it put everything back where it should be. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 So, did you pick up about 5k when you got the engine pulling in the right direction? 1 Quote
aaronk25 Posted December 21, 2013 Author Report Posted December 21, 2013 Haven't got a chance to open it up yet as it was dark and ceilings were coming down when I flew the short hop back to home base. Maybe today but it's barley IFR but ice above . Quote
OR75 Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 I am thinking about changing mine. can you clarify what Lord part number did you use ? the mooney parts catalog has part number 600155-503. but it also has that part broken down into J-9612-88 and J-7763-1 Did you need to disconnect hoses ? remove exhaust system ? just curious how painful it will be ( vs. removing engine sag ) Quote

Now if you really want to see turbine-like smoothness, get the prop dynamically balanced and report back. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 I had my nearly new Hartzell Scimitar prop dynamically balanced after installing PFS exhaust. Very little adjustment and I could not really detect a difference. 1 Quote

Very little adjustment and I could not really detect a difference. That's good, but there is normally a significant and noticeable difference in vibration levels. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted December 21, 2013 Report Posted December 21, 2013 I'm sure the new Lords vs. the worn old Barrys will make a big difference. Quote
Wistarmo Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 Coincidence, but I just replaced my engine mounts on a '93J a few weeks ago and noticed a huge decrease in vibration. (The prop had already been balanced and I use fine-wires.) Quote
