Reading through this thread I have to believe with the disappearance of Peter Garmin, José, between his urinary disposal comments and this thread, is trying to fill a rather large void left by our very own Peter Garmin. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
Verified it is working. Let me know if you want to use it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I like it. “Hon, you don’t mine that I look at some panel porn, do ya?” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Maybe. It's been a long time since I used it...

And to answer your question that I missed, yes, I believe the unit will work without the main jacks being plugged into the plane's jack. I am headed over to the airport later today to finish the brakes off with Terry and will test it. I think that is the way I had it set up when I flew with my kids in the back seat. My original panel mounted intercom was a Sigtronics that only was connected to the crew jacks. I added this portable intercom so my kids could talk to each other and it is a 4 place so I would have my wife plug into it as well.

Now for solving the mystery. When I pulled it out of the closet I saw that I had modified it with a second box marked Hi/Lo. Looking in the box I saw two more 9VDC connectors. I have absolutely no recollection of what/why this exists. But it clearly is my handiwork. Any guesses?
-
No need for a rental fee. Just need to figure out how to get it to you. The Sigtronics portable unit I have can be run on a 9VDC battery or the power cord that can be plugged into the cigar lighter. If you are interested, I will take it to the airport today and make sure it still works. Hasn't been used for a while.

Parking Brake Locked Up in Flight??
Marauder replied to Skates97's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Brian -- question for you on 5606. When I pulled my parking brake valve to have Terry rebuild it, I needed to remove the two bolts that it was mounted to. I realized after attempting to remove the second bolt that the nut was not attached mechanically to the bracket but rather was literally stuck on the bracket because of a build up of dried up hydraulic fluid. The first nut was so stuck that I didn't even need to use a wrench to hold it. I also found a lot of sticking red goop around the area where the valve leaked. Does this stuff dry out after time? -
Yeah, lots of talk money spending but no one actually saying what those panels actually cost. For an owner these are significant financial decisions with implications. Hunter - plan it out with both your short and long term goals. Spending $40k to $50k on plane that you may not keep, is worse than throwing money down a bottomless pit. Owners like Don, Bob and Steven are and will be long term owners of their planes. Others have the financial means to throw into the pit and don’t care about the future resale implications. What audio panel do you have? I can isolate my "crew" from the back passengers and I thought all modern panels did that. If you just need one for a trip, maybe your neighborhood Marauder can fix you up?

Mine has a tightly wound metal sheath and not one with some sort of plastic covering found on bike cables. -

I've become a BIG fan of Sea Foam's Deep Creep penetrating lubricant. Everything I have used it on has stayed lubricated. -
My First Annual- What Can I Do To Help??
Marauder replied to 0TreeLemur's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Fred - I am not sure about your philosophy about proactive maintenance. I have always accepted any suggestions from the shops at the annual about being proactive on maintenance. That said, until this past annual, no one said anything about the brake system other than periodically a "time to change the pads" comment. Nothing about brake lines, parking brake, etc. was ever said until this past annual. I decided to hold off since I already had a hefty annual bill and the brakes were not showing any signs of issues. Sure enough, I get a pedal softening and I decided to tackle the brake lines (which turned out to be original) and the parking brake that was leaking and the rubber hose swollen quite a bit. In the process of doing this, I noticed that many of the O rings used in the parking brake and master cylinders have a useful service life stamped on them. I wonder how many times those dates are adhered to? -
Avionics upgrade underway For 2PT!!!

While you got this all apart, might be a good time to pull those yoke control rods and have them chromed or whatever coating they have on them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro -
Parking Brake Locked Up in Flight??
Marauder replied to Skates97's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
The only time I really needed mine was parking at a nearby airport for some avionics work. The ramp was sloped and I knew I needed the parking brake which didn’t work. There was one reward. I now hold the world’s speed record for exiting a Mooney. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -
I can get one for the 3 planes I own. Wait a sec, I don’t own 3 planes. It’s amazing that at one time we were considered the great inventors. Now we are the king of knock offs. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Describe what you consider to be a normal bleed please. We were doing a bleed from the top using a vacuum bleeder with the new supply being pulled in from the bottom. That worked okay but the pedals were still a little soft. That is when we tried pushing fluid up from the bottom using a syringe attached to the caliper bleeder and it worked a few times on each side and then locked up hydraulically. Terry is doing a charter tomorrow and said he would try to come over to try again in the afternoon. If that doesn’t work, I may need to see if you can help later this week. Terry is off to get a type rating of some kind starting next week. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

That’s what we we were doing Brian, but at some point it just wouldn’t allow any flow through the system on either side. It was like there was a common blockage. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Parking Brake Locked Up in Flight??
Marauder replied to Skates97's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Having rebuilt my parking brake this afternoon, it’s not the most robust set up. A quarter inch sized piston with 2 small O rings on it. If either of the O rings are slightly compromised, I could see fluid leaking by and not provide full holding power. I think that is what was going on with mine. The new and old O rings were remarkably different in condition. Mine just never held. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro -
I probably would not have bothered with the parking brake other than the fact it was clearly leaking. And on my plane, yes indeed, the parking brake and cabin heat are right next to each other [emoji23] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Hey Andy. Thanks for the reply. We made a plug with an adapter for a vacuum bleeder for the top of the reservoir and were feeding fluid in from the bottom up. This got us to semi solid brakes and that is when Terry tried pushing fluid up through the caliper’s bleeder bolts. That is when we saw the strange fluid lock-up. When you say “the brake pedals were completely released”, what did you mean? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

I’m hoping one of you brake gurus or connoisseurs can shed some light on brake bleeding. Go to the last 3 paragraphs for short story. Terry and I worked on my brake rebuild today. The right brake failure to return which I thought may have been a sloppy brake was actually a linkage issue that Terry corrected. Since I had new brake lines and the kit to rebuild the leaking parking brake and Terry didn’t have the time to rebuild the masters and do the brake caliper rotations, we decided to concentrate on fixing the leaks and replacing, what turned to be original 1975 brake lines. As a smart IA, somehow Terry convinced me to pull the parking brake while he worked on the brake lines. Not a pretty sight seeing a guy my size squeeze into a wheel well. But the big guy did get it out. Interesting to see that even in 1975 we were using stuff that was made in China. The parking brake rebuild went well. 3 O rings and it went back together fine. As did the reinstall, despite a few expletives that would have Bob B scratching his head. Here is the need for the guru part. Terry and I rigged a system to pull new fluid up through the reservoir. The process went well, expect for the fact the fat old guy was on the ground opening the valve and supplying the fluid while the young IA got to do the vacuum gizmo on his two feet. After not seeing anymore air, we pumped up the brakes. They felt okay but certainly weren’t solid like I have felt previously. Terry decided to give the old fat guy a brake (pun intended) and he was using a syringe to push fluid up from the calipers through the reservoir. That seemed to work well but on the last syringe full, he couldn’t push anymore fluid. It was like it was air-locked. We decided to do the other side and the exact same thing happened. After several syringe full of hydraulic fluid being pushed, it wouldn’t take anymore. We discussed several “theories” including something happening to the parking brake, the calipers holding air and locking the flow or somehow some unknown containment blocking both lines. That last one is up there with the odds of me selecting the right Powerball numbers tonight. Any thoughts? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
