  1. Personal minimums are what keep pilots alive. I am also not a night flyer. In a single engine 40 year old plane I don't see the point in flying at night. I am not making it wrong! Just Not enough options for Me if something doesn't go as planned.

  3. I used very thick jel wraps made for bike handlebars. They worked great and you can wrap it to whatever thickness you like. It cost $19. Do I qualify for membership in CB or do I need a picture too
  4. I have a 74e and was wondering if the oil cooler works lIke a radiator with a valve that opens up to the cooler when it reaches a specific temperature. Or is oil always going to the cooler. My cooler looks like a small radiator. I have flown below 0 degrees and have never had any problems with oil temp but saw some discussions on this topic. Thanks
  5. At KGRB Green Bay WI it is still $6.00 per gallon plus a now airport tax of 10 cents per gallon. 30 miles away at KCLI Clintoville WI you can fuel up for $4.80. When I mention this I get the "you would fly round trip 60 miles to fuel your plane?". I say yes! We fly, that is what we do and if I can get cheap gas at KCLI, that sounds like a great destination. They don't seem to get it.
  6. Dave I have my 74E POH as a PDF. If you give me your email I will send. It is too big to post on mooney space.
  7. My interior was about 2000 and I did a lot of the work, panel repairs paint carpeting. The exterior was sanded not stripped and was about 6500. I put a king 84b gps in, a new DI with a bug and VSI that freshened up my panel. I use an iPad with ADSB wing x and off I go. My 74 E flys great, looks great and I have less than 50K in it. All that said if you have that kinda cash for all the upgrades, I would buy a plane ready to go. I either would buy a plane with a great air frame and engine that needs paint and an interior or a plane that just needs a new engine. I don't see the value in all the work...unless you really enjoy it. After 2 weeks working on the inside of the cockpit, all of a sudden it becomes a PIA! It gets old real quick. The objective is to fly the plane:)
  8. 3m makes a 3 step product that cost 50 per step. 3 different pads as well. Will make you bird look new. Step 1 may be to aggressive on some planes. It can remove overspray it is that strong. Step 2 polishes and step 3 removes any swirls. Use it on my cars as well. Need a good polisher with Velcro pads to get the rpms. Comes in quart purple bottles
  9. I am very happy with the G1 I installed. It was about $1200...install included. http://www.insightavionics.com/g1.htm
  10. Very impressive! Please keep us informed. I would love to learn more about this!
  11. I am in the process of installing a G1. It will tell me EGT and CHT in all cylinders and give me a colored graph as well as a numerical value. For the $950 it will give me enough info to tell me how my engine is performing in flight as well as record it on a flash drive. My A P so far says it is an easy install. I will report back once it is installed and tested. I am a mooney owner on a budget:)
  12. It is a scam. You will see this on ebay. They will only take some kind of money card from Walmart or some other place and they will not talk to you. NEVER buy something outside of ebay!!!
  13. When I flew today I noticed that when I pushed the talk button I could not hear my own voice thru my headsets. Does anybody know what this could be. I do not have a built in button. It is Velcroed to the yoke. I also have an old terra audio panel. Any help would be appreciated.
  14. Thanks for sharing...I needed to see that today.
  15. I put in a KLN 89B about 6 months ago for about 2500 and am thrilled. I have wing x on my ipad, on my yoke, which is what I can see with ease. I know everybody pushes the 430's but I didnt need a new radio or a 3 inch moving map installed for about 8000.00. Just my opinion.
  16. Sven, Your should publish this. Very well said. I am making a copy of it and putting it in my flight bag.
  17. I wrapped my yoke with gel black road bike handle bar tape. Really like the new thicker feel.
  18. I have also used the 3M - 3 step product. I first used it on my motor home after we botched the clear coat. Wet sanded with 1200 and the 3 m product worked great. Used it on my mooney to remove overspray from painting. Also had good success on the windows as well. Wet sanded a single stage vintage vw beetle till dull and the 3 m made it look like a show car. As you can see I am a fan.
  19. Please post any mooney activities, seminars, get togethers, etc. for EAA Oshkosh this July. I would greatly appreciate it.
  20. My wife says "Don't buy something to enjoy and expect to get your money's worth out of it." The joy of flying...priceless.
  21. Thanks for the info, glad it turned out alright. What's with the all the attitudes. Fly in Wisconsin, friendly folks here!
  22. I bought my mooney in Bremerton and had an AP named Jay and his sidekick Bob fly it to Green Bay. I think they are coming out as well for the Eaa.
  23. I am all for good deals. The only difference here is a boat or car wont fall out of the sky when it breaks. Have an annual or pre buy done. If it is sound, go for it. I replaced the interior in my plane myself for about 2000 and 5 weeks of work. All material by spec and signed off. Old radios don't mean junk radios. I have an old king 175 backup radio that has never given me any problems. I also restore cars. A rust hole on a floorboard is no big deal on a car. Corrosion on a plane in a similar fashion makes it not airworthy. Hope this helps and remember this is an opinion!
  24. I tell my wife it cost 10 dollars an hour to fly our mooney. I don't think she is buying it.
  25. I put in a P/N 2040-1-2 Voice Alert in my mooney. It screams in the cockpit and in my headset "check landing gear" when the horn goes off. Gets your attention!!!
