  1. I have the JPI 700 w/ Fuel Flow..... Definitely recommend!
  2. I do...but not in a Mooney. I have been there many times when I used to fly Pt 135. It is beautiful and mountainous.......San Jose is the main airport and Iberia is another. There are smaller airfields....but I don't know about trying to clear customs and immigration. If you have to stop in Mexico....I recommend that you arrange a handler.....the extortion fees are high!
  3. Whatever discount you are going to take......you can expect another buyer to want to take.
  4. I concur!
  5. If the buyer is looking at this plane "knowing" that it is a project, then all is good. If the buyer is looking at this plane because $21K is his budget...........this is one hell of a can of worms to open!..........Just sayin'
  6. Not if you use duct tape...............
  7. I don't know.........the first OH was at 1000 hrs, has had a top OH and since then.......my guess is a prop strike! In annual until January?? Without seeing log books........I would not be comfortable with that engine. The radios have some value......but to me ....this plane looks like a potential money pit.
  8. My plane is in for annual......raincheck!
  9. Please re-read the original post. He was cleared for a visual approach........I would have proceeded on the visual approach.....using whatever instrumentation I had dialed in........and waited a few more seconds to identify the runway. ATC usually doesn't ask if you can see the runway when you're on a visual.
  10. A Mooney will never get priority over Pt 135 bizjet. I have the upmost respect for the respect for the ATC......and in the northeast, I believe they are among the best. My guess is that you should have requested the full approach. Without knowing what equipment you have onboard, I have my Garmin 430 as well as a Garmin 696, I think I would have proceeded on the visual and if you had 33R dialed in, you would have probably landed with no issues. ATC is group that I don't mind paying taxes for. Next time will be better......I'm sure.
  11. The airframe logbooks generally tell the majority of the history of an aircraft. I guess it would depend on how much of that "history" is missing. One book from 40 years ago would .........is one thing. Several books spanning a couple decades..............different. If it is a recent book, it may be able to be reconstructed by the shop that did all the work. As a buyer......I would really have to beat up the seller......as I will have to consider what the resale will mean to me. My opinion only!
  12. I just went thru a similar episode. My right tank was showing the same fuel stains in the same location as what you describe. I let it go for about 10 months but started noticing that the tank was taking in a lot of water whenever it rained. Water gets in wherever fuel gets out!!!! I just had to bite the bullet and take it to Wetwingologists in FXE.
  13. I was always taught that every Mooney owners' opinion is a statement of fact! I think it comes down to who's mechanic can beat up the other mechanics............just sayin'
  14. Definitely have it looked at. I do not know exactly what the allowance is....but if it is beyond a certain measurement, it may need replacement. IIRC, LASAR sells the replacement for about $800. That is not an item to let go...... My opinion only!
  15. FAR 61.57 (d) covers this. Hank is correct. 1964-M20E........not so much.
  16. I haven't filed a VFR flight plan since training for my PPL. I most often do file IFR........even on severe clear days! That way, ATC has to talk to you.....where as, if they are busy, they may not be able to give you FF.
  17. Check with your local Authorized Garmin Dealer.
  18. You don't have to upgrade. I sent mine to Garmin and they have an $800 flat rate ( I think it was $800) and you get back an updated unit. My Garmin dealer didn't recommend the Waas upgrade as there is an ILS at just about every airport I fly to regularly.
  19. It is not standard, but I don't think it is unreasonable either. Your offer should be contingent on a pre-buy inspection at a facility agreed upon by both seller and buyer.......prior to making a deposit! This is a buyers market! There are plenty of deals out there. 200 miles is a little over an hour away.......no a big deal! If the broker doesn't like it, let the broker buy the airplane. I have puchased 5 airplanes. I have not had favorable experiences with brokers. I believe they don't want to sell the plane because they get to fly around in the seller's plane "giving demos". My opinion only!
  20. I just did a complete reseal at Wetwingologists at FXE. Was an easy choice for me.
  21. I also, suggest getting the PPL first......then buy the Mooney and get your Instrument Rating in it.
  22. PHIL also flies.....not sure if he has his CFI, but can certainly teach you Mooney
  23. Just my opinion........I would make the offer contingient on a fresh Annual by an AI that you both agree to. Just a simple inspection by your mechanic may not reveal any unairworthy issues that an annual would. You could pay for the inspection and have him cover airworthy items. Again.........my opinion only.
  24. This is a 1970 M20F. The 71 F model was actually called an Aerostar 220 and had a couple mods to the tail. I owned one.
  25. Yea....canoeing scares the hell outta me! Especially without a helmet!
