  1. I subscribe to the party of ROP, No flap TO ( unless conditions warrant them), and partial flap landings, and sealed tanks!
  2. In my opinion......... Vref .......overstates the value in many cases. It is very reasonable to have the aircraft delivered with a fresh annual.....by an agreed upon AI.....at seller's expense. Do not use the broker's A/P or AI for the pre-purchase inspection! There is a conflict of interest! An annual inspection is about the best prepurchase inspection you can get. Negotiate........!! My opinion only!
  3. If you don't plan to fly more than 50 hours per year....it may be cheaper to rent! There is a value of having your own plane......and knowing the maintenance is being done. I would advise to think long and hard about entering a partnership......some work.......many don't! If you can afford it........buy an airplane! I still think it's cheaper than a wife!
  4. For me........it depends on circumstances......ie: runway length, obstacle clearance, condition of runway, etc.....but most often, I use no flaps for takeoff. Most often I use 1/2 flaps for landing........again.....depending on circumstances.
  5. This particular broker seems to search out planes that have not flown. Many of their aircraft have 20 yr old overhauls with few hours flown. I have never done business with the broker but I have looked at a few of their planes and they all have they same thing in common........low time SMOH done many years ago.
  6. Something smells here............... My opinion only!
  7. I had a student put a 201 Turbo Bullet into a spin. It was abrubt...if not violent..........lost almost 2000 feet in 2 turns and I hope to never have to go through that again! The Mooney does not recover like a Cessna either! IIRC....I shat my pants, too!
  8. Buying the airplane isn't the worst part IMHO! It is the $6-$7 per gallon, $15 landing fees, $85 hr shop fees, $100 tiedown fees, etc etc ......I think the ex-wife is possibly cheaper!
  9. I have many hours in a Cheetah. They are nice.....great visibility. Fun to fly.........but not a Mooney. The climb is enemic........about as fast as a Warrior.......but great for sightseeing.
  10. I do believe he asked the armchair critics for their opinions.............and the armchair critics are responding! Just sayin'
  11. I agree with this statement........
  12. The only way to find out if it will move at $70K is to put it out there and field offers. I doubt there is anyone going to walk up and offer you full price.....so price it accordingly. A wise old woman once told me....."a fast nickel is better than a slow dime"...........she may be right. My opinion only!
  13. If Wilmar is doing the annual......you can't get a much better PPI than that. When they sign off on that annual, you can rest assured that the plane has been gone thru. If there are specific items you want looked at, this is the perfect time.....while the plane is opened up. And it is at the seller's expense......! My opinion only!
  14. Seems to me that you should have heard your engine........! Scan is good but should also be listening to your engine........always. Just sayin'
  15. So..........is this where we start the LOP vs ROP discussion?
  16. No offence, but as a 100 hr pilot, you have seen very little. There are things that come up all the time....and with each 100 hrs you gain, you get better at assessing the situation and dealing with it. I have nearly 6000 hrs....and have not seen it all. You made some miscalculations, but dealt with it......now move on. Just try to learn from your experiences. You had a properly functioning airplane......next time you may have weather AND a mechanical malfunction. There are no absolutes in flying. My opinion only!
  17. Don't beat yourself up! Every pilot encounters the unexpected...it is how you handle it that matters. Get your IR! My opinion only!
  18. I think I would just buy a 201......but that's me. Just sayin'
  19. Tachs are not perfect. Before adjusting anything you should verify the accuracy of the tachometer. I went thru the same thing to find out that my tach reads 80 rpms low.......from 2300 to 2700 rpm! You can buy a new tach to correct the error,........but I just set the rpms 80 less than where I want it to be.
  20. I had a student that I was teaching in her own 201 Turbo Bullet. While trying to teach her slow flight and stall awareness, she pulled back on the yoke and within a second we were in a spin. We lost over 2000' before recovery.........two turns before I could break the stall. It was a very abrupt and harsh stall! I absolutely don NOT encourage anybody to try a spin unless you are above 5000' and even then.........don't recommend it.
  21. That airport really does need a tower! I have seen almost disasters there so many times. You need the tower just to maintain order.
  22. My back seat fits 2 Dobermans. Getting a large crate in a Mooney is like trying to put a square peg in a round hole.
