  1. 163 MPG avg? Wow.....that is incredible! Must have been flying LOP.
  2. I had to stick my 2 cents in on the helmet thing.............we are all a hell of lot liklier to be in a vehicle accident than we are to have a plane crash.......who drives around with a motorcycle helmet on? This was a tragedy....and we all have the luxury of be Monday morning quarterbacks. The best we can do as pilots is be prudent with our habits, skills, and maintenance.........but flying is a hell of a lot safer than driving. My opinion only!
  3. From my perspective.....the automobile probably should not have been there, but the pilot.....in my opinion.....was not in control of that landing. The approach is extremely flat and the pilot most likely was not looking around at the surroundings. A go-around was in order. My opinion only!
  4. Check out a restaurant called "Mothers"
  5. I would go for the E model........and negotiate!
  6. Congrats! My first Mooney was a 68 C model. I think there is a breakfast at KPGD next Sat @ 11:30
  7. My engine has < 500 hrs SFOH.......I drain the oil every 25 hrs and replace with new oil but do a complete oilchange every 50 hrs. I monitor the color of the oil and never let it get that dark. With 1400 hrs on the engine....I would tend to agree that changing the filter every time is a good idea.
  8. My guess is that there was still enough water in the tank to make your engine burp. If you had made a steep enough turn during the first flight, there may have been a "water bubble" that made its way to the engine. The same happened to me in the 201 recently.....but I was out of runway so my choices....had I needed them.....were few.
  9. Congrats! Now get your Instrument Rating!
  10. I did my IR about 18 years ago, but I did the "drink from a firehose" method. I used a couple different instructors and flew between 4-5 times per week and sometimes 2+ hours per lesson. I practiced (with instructor) in actual IMC when it was possible.....much easier than under a hood. No doubt....I got my ass kicked and I was whooped when it was all done....but I feel that it was the best way for me. I cannot speak to the "Accelerated" courses.....I created my own......but I do recommend getting it done in the shortest period possible. This will keep you sharp and IMO make the checkride that much easier. Good Luck......Get it done! My opinion only!
  11. With the Serengettis, you will gain 3-4 knots during climbout!
  12. I had a 71 F model with the M20 Turbo system. I believe PJ Aircraft in AVO did the install. The work was done prior to my ownership. Below 10K ft....no advantage. Above 10K ft.....definite speed gains! If you're not going to use oxygen......I don't see the sense of adding the turbo. Extra care and attention to temps is mandatory..............I do regret selling the airplane.
  13. The fact that you are questioning the loss of value because of gear-ups is a strong indication of what you will face at resale. There is a small pool of Mooney buyers and an even smaller pool that will buy "damaged" airplanes. If you never plan on selling the plane....then it doesn't matter. I spent over 6 months and looked at many, many Mooneys because I wanted the NDH claim. The value of the airplane will be determined by what you are willing to pay. If pricepoint is the determining factor....you may have to settle for a plane with "history". The deal as you state in your post is not a bargain....in my opinion! It is a buyer's market.....so I would find the airplane that you really want and negotiate. I am not a fan of bladders.......but there are several on this forum that like them. Good luck.......!
  14. I use PJ Aircraft at KAVO 954-868-3319 He has worked on my planes for nearly 15 years. I have never used Premier....I believe one of the owners posts to this forum. Banyan at FXE rents out rafts......I believe. Good Luck
  15. I have an 81 J.....mixture in.......fuel pump on until pressure shows on guage ( 3 seconds) throttle 1/4" in and starts right up.
  16. The OP stated that he and his A&P attempted to repair a leak and was not successful. I didn't read anywhere, a statement that A&Ps don't know how to seal or repair a fuel leak. Perhaps, rather than getting defensive for no obvious reason, you should offer your insight and services to those that don't know who you are or what your expertise is. Just sayin'
  17. Yea...that is a bandaide. One or two un-pretty landings may challenge your theory. My opinion only!
  18. Which ever Mooney you decide to buy.........make sure it has the wingtips! Just sayin'
  19. A mechanic is going to do your tanks "per Mooney manual". If you want your tanks done right and "best"......take your plane to someone that specializes in the procedure. Wilmar...Weep No More.... and Wetwingologists all specialize in the procedure. There may be others..........I have my 201 at Wetwingologists now getting mine done. They did my C model many years ago and I, and the two following owners, have never had a problem. If you are trying to get it done "cheap", ......good luck! It is labor intensive and you never know if you will find the "mechanic" that did the tanks.............if ever you need to. I did not even cosider bladders an option, but there are many on this forum that prefer them. Still not cheap, though. My opinion only!
  20. I have had a similar issue with mine. Try unplugging from the cigarette lighter and then completely removing the battery for about 1 minute......return the battery and then plug in again.
  21. My 81 J model is at Wetwingologists now having both tanks done. Bladders not my thang!
  22. Quote: kujo806 Thank you for the pointer to George's post. There are a lot of good points in there. I am taking down some notes from that post on what to look for, and I am going to plan on flying over to see the plane this weekend. If everything goes well, I will plan to work out a pre-buy at Wilmar with the owner. Does anyone have any comments on Wilmar service? I have read several posts from people who had their tanks resealed there, and I believe the comments were generally positive. I also have a question about how to handle the pre-buy. The owner offered to pay for the annual with the purchase because it is due in December. I would assume this would be with "his guy". I was thinking about offering to pay for the general annual labor if done at Wilmar if he picks up the squawks (knowing that it may cost more at a MSC). Another thought I had was to just pay for a pre-buy inspection at Wilmar, and then let him pick up the actual annual at his shop (assuming any pre-buy squawks get fixed at that time). Does this sound like a decent idea or am I being naive?
  23. Quote: cfipilot80 Thanks fall for the info. I should've joined this forum a long time ago. The more research I do, the more I think a M20C may work out great for me. One thing that sparked this is the fact there is a M20C partnership local to me. I was looking at buying but maybe a partnership would be a good way of getting into it.
