  1. Great video!
  2. I had the same problem with a straight valve stem breaking shortly after buying my aircraft.. I think it broke because every time you put air in your tire you have to pull the stem out away from the hub. The previous owner may have pulled the stem out and caused it to crack. I went to the 90 degree valve stem. The tubes with the 90 degree valve stems cost twice as much as the straight ones.
  3. I use a 8gal 2hp compressor from Harbor Freight tools. They go on sale all the time for $99.00. Works fine on the 115V 15amp outlet.
  4. Kind of makes you wonder how those early mountain climbers ever made it to the top of Mt Everest.
  5. My solution is even easier. While the oil is draining out of the pan. Punch a small hole in the top of the filter near the back. Use a rubber tipped blow gun and blow compressed air into the hole in the filter for a couple of min to blow all the oil out of the filter. Then you can then just remove the filter without spilling any oil.
  6. Has anyone heard anything about the Lasar Electronic Ignition system by Champion?
  7. There is no FAA reg reguarding non-aviation hanger use at an airport. Victorville airport (VCV) in southern California has rented out space on the airport to trucking firms to pool table manufactures even a church. When I lived in Nevada I lived on an airport in a hanger home. I know a number of people that built hangers at airports for there airplanes, then lost their medical and no longer fly. So, they use their hanger to store personal property. How is an airplane full of fuel any less dangerous than any other vehicle that has fuel?
  8. I think that is too much money for an "F" model, especially one in that kind of shape. I also agree you could probably find a J model for that kind of money.
  9. You don't have to worry about blowing contaminates from the air or from the dirty side of the oil filter back into the engine because, all oil filters have an anti drainback feature that will only let oil (or air) travel one way through the filter. And your blowing the air through the dirty side of the filter. So, the air has to travel through the filter material just like the oil. So, it gets filtered too.
  10. I have found a way to remove the oil filter with out spilling any oil. I first drain the oil out of the engine, then I punch a small hole in the top back part of the filter. I use a rubber tipped blow gun to blow compressed air into the filter for 2 min. Then you can remove the filter from the engine without spilling any oil. Any questions?
  11. I just put a little bit of water around the suction cup before putting it on the window and it seams to work fine.
  12. That works if your ground speed is 150 in the descent. If your going 180 in the descent you have to start your descent 30 miles out if you want to drop 5000ft at 500fpm. I just divide my groundspeed I'm traveling in the descent by 60, and that will give me the miles per min I'm traveling. Then I take the time it's going to take to descend. 5000ft divided by 500fpm is 10 min. Multiply the two numbers together and you get the miles out you have to start your descent.
  13. Is this for real? I don't understand why someone would part out a good airplane. And why would someone spend the money to reskin an elevator if they are parting out the airplane? He also said that he didn't have time to sell it and that's why he is parting it out. Am I the only one that thinks someting is not right here?
  14. I had a flat main tire on my Mooney. I had a low wing aircraft jack, but it would not fit under the wing with a flat tire. I just used a bottle jack placed on a 2X6 on a cinder block, place under the jack point and it worked great. I don't think you would have a problem jacking the front up using a bar in the towbar tube. Think about what kind of load is on the front tire when you apply the brakes after landing.
  15. I think Garmin has an excellent product. But it's outrageous what they charge for all the updates. At least with the ipad you have a lot more options and your not paying every month for updates. It's amazing all the stuff that has come out recently for the ipad. Moving maps, charts, weather, synthetic vison. And it seems every month or two someone is coming out with something even better. All without reoccuring monthly fees. Garmin is going to have to lower their update fees if they want my business.
  16. Has anyone tried using a sealed battery to prevent the battery box corrosion problem?
  17. That's funny!
  18. My M20B had a 6ply tire on it when I bought it and thats what I replaced it with. Never had any problem running a 6ply tire on the front. I have a 3 blade prob so I figured with the added weight on the front it would be better to run the 6ply verses a 4ply.
  19. If you base your plane in California or register it there. Calif has a 1% ( I believe it's 1% could be higher now) tax on the assessed value that you have to pay every year. I moved out of California and registered my plane in Nevada, and California still tried to tax me every year. And to make it even worse, they assessed the value much higher than the aircraft was actually worth. I would not register your airplane in California. If you rent a hanger, the owner of the hanger is required to give the county assessor your N # so the county can tax you. AND, it's a pain in the ass to get them to stop taxing you even after you move out of the state. If you get a bill from the county assessors office and you don't pay it ,they will just turn the tax bill over the the franchise tax board and garnish your wages with interest and penalties, until the bill is paid off.
  20. Sounds to me like anyone that buys a plane that was registered in FL or flys into FL within 6 months of purchase, can expect a tax bill. Even if the airplane was purchased in another state. I'm not sure how Florida can get away with that. Of course it would probably be cheeper to pay the tax than to sue Florida in Federal court.
  21. According to TLSDriver. That means that a State can claim you owe them money, weather you do or not, and there is nothing you can do about it, but pay them?
  22. Cessna 210s take 6:00X6 8ply
  23. I would not pay it!
  24. I used to live just outside of Vegas. I found Henderson is much easier to fly in and out of, versus North Las Vegas. Both airports are friendly to general aviation and are about the same as far as tie downs. If you need to buy fuel. Jean (0L7) is going to be a lot cheaper than Henderson or N.Las Vegas. Also if you have a hard time finding a Hotel to stay at in Vegas (sometimes they get booked up during conventions). You can normally get a room at the Gold Strike in Jean (a short walk from the airport). McCarren Intl is very expensive to fly into (landing fees and tie downs are very expensive). Hope this helps. Have a nice flight.
