  1. Mooneymite, Also check with Dawley Aviation, they're one of the best in the exhaust system business. http://www.dawleyaviation.com/
  2. Not a very smart thing to do since there aren't many airport options close and they can follow you on radar to your destination. There are FAA people at all the airports close by. Wouldn't surprise me if a friendly inspector was there to greet him and do a ramp check very, very, slowly. I hope all the paperwork was perfect.

  4. Joe, also check your two static drains on the fuselage if they are corroded or leaking the static system won't seal

Found an o-ring kit from Dan at LASAR. $1.65! (Verified decimal point was not to the left 2 digits too far!) We'll see if this fixes the leak. New valve assembly is $494.

Thanks, my shop did inspect the static drains and were found to be ok.

  5. OFG, Sorry for your loss. I read the NTSB report. The engine "sputter-cough" and the gear operation wouldn't be connected. My Mooney brothers are correct, the gear operates electrically (off battery power) or manually IF the NO Back Clutch Spring hasn't broken. We all try to learn from these tragic accidents. According to controller reports Mr.Grand was on RWY 36, 7467ft. at 200-300 altitude just North of the tower and made the decision to make Rwy 26 to save the airplane. https://www.google.com/maps/@29.1882512,-82.2464817,3866m/data=!3m1!1e3. Whether this was correct I will leave to the NTSB. I will leave my brothers with some thoughts for the next emergency. Low and slow turns with questionable power? I haven't been to KOCF but after RWY 36 it's approx. 2,700 ft to I-40 with no structures.
  6. If you don't want the Oshkosh hassle contact the folks at KPCZ. 29NM West of KOSH and see if the will have rentals. It is an easy 45 min. drive to KOSH, all freeway
  7. Dan, Looks like you lost the snap on retaining ring and the stud. Having the right tool to replace them makes it a 2min job. Look at part# 4P3-1, installation tool and part# T26,snap-on retaining ring tool. http://www.afsrcamloc.net/xua/downloads/4002 Series.pdf
  8. Try giving EAA Airventure a call http://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/about-eaa/contact-us and ask. From what I've seen it might be difficult because of the crowded area. It is much easier for the marshals to direct all new campers to a clean area so you can just taxi in and set up. A couple of things to prepare for: 1. Study the arrival procedure, it's not quite like any other arrival you'll experience. Do you know what a conga line is? You will. 2. Practice slow flight in your K model. Hope you don't get behind a J-3 Cub or Taylorcraft. 3. Approach speed is critical, Airventure lands on 3 spots on 9/27 6,179ft. Your not going to want to float. 4. Take Carusoam's advice and bring or become a EAA member, before. Airventure tickets are much cheaper. Have a great time.
  9. ltdoyle, I sent you a PM
  10. Our 201 had a bad static drain. The spring was corroded and it wouldn't seal. There are two on the J. Both on the pilots side I believe

  11. Here is the rest of the story on this M20C http://www.kathrynsreport.com/2014/01/mooney-m20-rutherford-county-north.html
  12. What is interesting about Aeromotors LLC in Browntown,Wi is that it is only 7 miles West of Monroe,WI where Rapco has their fuel pump repair facility. I'm wondering if there was a connection. It appears they have the capability and have been around for a while (http://www.aeromotorsllc.com/aeromotorsllc/about.aspx)
  13. Try this, you will have to find your serial number. http://mooney.free.fr/Manuels%20M20J/M20J/Mooney%20Service%20Manuel%20M20J%20Vol.%202%20of%202.pdf
  14. John, Put Mooney manuals in the search box at upper right. When the page comes up look at the 7th post down on SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS
  15. Yes, it should be able to be ferried with a "Special Flight Permit" issued by a FSDO
  16. Chopperboy, page 7-23 of your POH circuit breaker diagram. Shows two breakers on a M20M, Gear and stall

  18. Tim, Contact Laser Aircraft " www.laser.com". They will give you all the info. They also have totally rebuilt steering parts. They are 93nmNorth of you Lakeport, CA.

  20. Mark, The washer you pictured I don't think is a Camloc part. Try looking at Camloc grommets. There is a snap ring that holds the grommet in. There are two different sizes used on the J. Bigger across the top, philips head. Smaller down the sides, mine were straight blade but I think philips would work too. Special tool to install grommets and snap rings.
  21. How about Sun n Fun till tomorrow?
  22. camloc fastners were on my 1980 J
  23. What is the front connected to? Is there access from the hat rack?
  24. If it was me I'd take it to Willmar Air Service 350 NM North of KC a great service center that knows Mooneys. Having said that, Signature TECHNICAir is in New Century, KS or Midwest M-20 Sales and Service in Flora, IL. All are listed on the Mooney web site. Don't go cheap, you need a Mooney expert's opinion on an expensive purchase. You'll be glad you did.
  25. Contact Bruce @ Willmar Air Service just West of St. Paul. A Mooney Sevice Center
