  6. Ned: What is condition of both the Shafts and the yokes? I have S/N 823 M20E, that has had the AD complied with a few years ago. Coming due in another 50 hours. Existing shafts have 2800 hrs, and show some wear on the chrome, also slop in the round socket in the panel, but that is normal. However, The AD is for cracks in the shaft that is covered up by the yokes, held in place by a taper pin, and also a set screw. I am experiencing some slight movement between the pilot yoke and the tube so I may have a problem. To my knowledge, the yoke is aluminum ( likely cast, unlikely forged or milled) and could also have corrosion. Soon to find out. The pilot yoke not only has the PC button on the left horn, but also an integral clock in the center. The yokes both have bonded enamel in good condition. Yours> Thanks for posting and for a reply /s/ aeromancfi
  7. Negative, this is aft-most fuselage belly cover for access to tail control rod linkages and flap linkage. I note fabric "rat socks"?? are installed on landing gear actuator rods up front, but they cover up a small 2 or 3 square inch opening. The opening I am looking at is maybe 6 in by 8 in on each side. aeromancfi.( Not a mechanic, but Mooney flyer for 28 years)
  8. Just completing annual on 1965 M20E and need to replace dust covers under (actually above) rear belly band. Flap torque tube extends left and right from this area and penetrates the dust cover. Existing cover(s) is fabric taped in place with aluminum foil tape, duct tape and gaffers tape: A mess! Wing leveler vacuum tubes also protrude. I have no part numbers and don't know if this is official part or previous owner addition. Anyone have a solution? I have noticed that the existing covers are blown inward on both sides indicating air pressure from exterior. This makes sense because with flaps deployed, airflow at the root would be deflected in this direction. I am thinking of making up covers with flexible poly plastic sheeting, leather, or fabric and cementing in place plus Velcro around hoses and flap torque tubes. aeromancfi
  9. 14th Looks Good to me Aeromancfi
  10. Item 6 ::All gages working when removed? Why full scale on oil temp gage? Right tank gage not on 'empty "Also what is your AC serial number? M20e S/N 823. I saw your nice plane at Pismo (2016?) and at AOPA Camarillo 2017. Looks like mine, but mine is all stock aeromancfi
  11. Need 2 sets for my 65E model: Shaw 431 Size 3. Address for check? Thanks, dancfi@sbcglobal.net
  12. I had a high oil temp (1965 E Model), that was finally traced to old wires and corroded connections on the wires connecting probe to the instrument forward of the firewall. Simple replacement of the wire and connectors solve the problem. aeromancfi
  13. Check your tachometer with a strobe and find out what the real RPM is, and go from there with all these recommendations. My tach reads low by 50 rpm, so 650 rpm at idle is actually 700 rpm and works fine for smooth operation. Aeroman.
  14. Go with Dawley, they have the jigs to make accurate repairs and re-builds. Did my whole system on a M20E 13 years ago with no problems since. aeromancfi
  15. Happy Birthday,, same as mine, aeromancfi , M20E, sn 823 KHWD

  16. KLN90B: This is an IFR approach-approved GPS, Yes? Comes with slot for data card-Yes? How about tray and connectors? Included? Antenna- Included? Re ADS-B out, do you know if this provides the GPS signal to drive the ADS-B out unit. I am waiting out the clock on getting the getting the 2020 mandated gear. KMA24-- Same: comes with tray? cables connectors? MB antenna? I am interested in the two units for my 65 M20E that has King radios from the 1975 era. Thanks, Dan aeromancfi
  17. 1963 to 1966 I worked across the street from SJC airport at FMC Corporation on Coleman Ave. I was in a flying club with a Cessna 170B, and the Mooney operation was pretty busy. FMC had their own hanger next door to the Mooney outfit, and operated a Lockheed Lodestar for executive travel. There was also an active Mooney dealership at Hayward that had a small office and I recall an open-air shelter with a MOONEY sign on it next door. I doubt of either of them lasted beyond the early 1970's. I became a Mooney pilot with a 1964 M20C around 1975, flew it for 10 years and now have 1965 M20E I've been flying for 16 years. Aeromancfi.
  18. Date?? Jan 10 looks doable I will attend,solo.
  19. Clarence: thanks for the Alemite info. I will follow up on that : both fittings and the grease adapter. How's that Mite treating you --L or C model? certainly not the same gear . as the 20 series. aeromancfi
  20. I appreciate the comments. As I said there is only what appears to be a stub ( does not extend beyond the bearing) with a tiny hole in the center, likely plugged up with dirt or old grease. I have seen some of the "push in" zerk fittings, but they have no threads, so I don't see how they could work except for friction on a interference fit. Seems the first load of grease would blow the fitting out. So far the best advice (thank you) is to douse liberally with LPS, but that doesn't seem like a good long term solution. Also having once reset the torque values on the gear ( a painstaking process) I am not interested in taking the gear out ( another lengthy process) best done by a Mooney shop. Any more suggestions? aeroman
  21. I am missing the main gear trunnion grease fittings on the forward bearing ( fwd spar attach) for a 65E model. It appears that the fittings are broken off, or that the threaded stub is stuck, or that the opening for the fitting is stripped. How to repair or how to lube the bearing? I have tried using a conical point stinger on the grease gun to squirt some grease into the bearing, but to no avail. Looks like opening is too small for an "easy out" extractor, and I am afraid of trying to drill out the hole, for fear of damaging the shaft. This is not likely a new problem, it's a poor design. Any fixes out there? One of the rear trunnion fittings is missing too, but is easier to fix . I don't particularly want to have to disassemble the whole gear to repair a lousy fitting! Thanks for the advice Aeromancfi
  22. Spinner balance is an issue with patching a filler plates, so I would avoid a "Patch" unless you match both sides. I had one placte crack on my 65E, Lake Aero furnished a replacement, I think they may have fabricated it themselves, but it had newer style nut plates. The fit and hole alignment was perfect. It was bare metal so painting with a "rattle can" took care of that. aeromancfi
  23. EMERGENCY DESCENT I agree with aviatoreb If engine fire is the problem, Mixture: OFF (engine quits) Fuel Selector: OFF Heater Control OFF (Heat muff duct may be burned through) Prop: FORWARD (Flat pitch, max drag) If you have lots (how much is lots?) of altitude to lose: Roll into Spiral Dive to left (best pilot visibility) or right if need to avoid flames and smoke plume. If you are low (how low is low?) Dive toward Target Keep enough back pressure on yoke to stay below redline airspeed. Select Target point for dead stick landing. Do NOT attempt engine restart, since engine fire could re-light. Gear and flaps depending on landing site conditions. Hope I never have to do it. Aeroman (No Factory procedure listed in my1965 M20E POH or Airplane Flight Manual)
  24. WTB Aluminum wheel cover for my 1965 M20E. Must have departed the aircraft somewhere between CA and Oshkosh. I have the old style 6 inch Cleveland wheel with a SINGLE SCREW HOLE IN THE CENTER and a 1/4 in rim.(Main Gear) ANY OFFERS OR SUGESTIONS ON WHERE TO BUy? This is second one I have lost in 10 years.. NO RESULTS AS OF Sept 20. LASAR doesn't have any.---STILL LOOKING FOR THIS PART Feb 2014. Thanks, Aeroman
