Close, it was 1971 in Dirty Harry. Someone signed off an annual in 7/2014, meaning it was "In annual" until 7/31/2015, so it's only been out of annual 1 year and 7 months. Might be worth taking a look at if it goes cheap enough. Do a capacity test on both batteries. You may end up needing two new batteries if they have been neglected. If so, get two Concorde RG 24-15. Don't boost (jump) it to start and then take off with a low battery - you may need that sooner than you think if something goes wrong soon after take-off. If you ever go to a MAPA Homecoming and hear the presentation by the Concorde battery guy, he will tell you stories where people took off with nearly dead batteries and then ended up with in flight fires to deal with. Don't switch batteries in flight. On odd days of the month when I fly I use battery one for startup and fly on that battery. On even days I use battery two and stick with that one. Get with a very experienced Mooney Instructor to show you all the individual traits of the TLS so you are using it correctly and get a very experienced Mooney mechanic who works on these all the time to find out what specific maintenance you need to catch up on. The M model is a great airplane, I've had three of them, but it needs a lot of maintenance to get the most out of it. You might consider posting your logs and some on here could help you see some things that you might need to do to catch up on maintenance.

Avidyne 10.2 Release Appears Imminent
LANCECASPER replied to KLRDMD's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I've done every update myself (with a sign off)) the past two plus years (M20R and M20M) and the instructions that Avidyne provides are very detailed. The shop would rather I do it since they don't want to "brick" a unit. Most shops haven't done too many, if any of these. Don't skip a word and don't get in a hurry and it works. Measure twice and cut once. I'm sure I take longer, but am more methodical than most getting paid an hourly wage to do it on someone else's airplane. -
I knew a guy that was a taxidermist, does that count?

Avidyne 10.2 Release Appears Imminent

It depends on whether they have downloaded the software twice on separate usb drives from Avidyne. There's a lot more to it that just sticking the drive in and coming back in two hours. All settings have to be written down from each unit and then both need to be conformity checked at the end. So it will definitely take them longer than two hours even if they have it on two usb drives. It is very detailed - I'm not sure I'd want them doing two at once. If they mess it up then the unit needs to go back to Avidyne. If it was mine I'd want them to take their time and concentrate on what they are doing. If you are taking it back where to the shop that did the work initially they may cut you a break, looking for future business. -

1) Set up an appointment with your Avidyne dealer 2) I wouldn't sweat it - if you are concerned ask your dealer when you go in for the upgrade I would have zero concerns. I don't worry about things that may never happen. If your dealer says its a problem, have them use their expertise to look into it. -

Nice Encore! My Oil Temp gauge on the '97 Encore I had did the same thing. If I remember correctly it was a loose ground.

The upgrade is very detailed and as long as he can follow 12 pages of directions he can do it. You need a dealer password to get the update off of their site. -

Last comment . . . Garmin and Aspen both charge big bucks for synthetic vision. Avidyne's update is not mandatory. They are not charging anything for it for their present customers, they're just asking you to pay the shop who installs it for you. If you don't think it's worth a couple hours of the shop's time to install it, that's a personal choice, go ahead and stay with 10.1.3. But don't be upset with them because they are adding features at no charge and not reaping any of the money for it. -

Warranties are for defects in material and workmanship. If you decide to add a trailer hitch to your car it's not covered under warranty. -

Your IFD 540 does what it's supposed to do These are add ons. You don't have to upgrade - the present software is certified. Think of a car dealer giving you a very desirable option a year after you buy the vehicle, but all you have to pay for is the installation. -

It's definitely not plug and ignore. You have to write down or take pictures of all of the configurations both in maintenance mode (12 screens) and regular mode and several times throughout the update it will prompt you for responses and then at the end you have to do the conformity check and cross check the number of every data packet. Two hours is fair. Mine was done last night and we were in the hangar well over two hours -

Just announced!! 10.2 is approved! -
Mooney made a "stripped" version of the 252 without a King Autopilot and without the dual alternators. The pictures don't show whether this has the split alternator switch or circuit breakers for the two alternators, but the Century Autopilot might be a clue. The more desirable of the 252's are the dual alternator/King autopilot versions. It is not considered an "Encore" conversion unless it has two alternators, which all Encores had. They may have a lot of potential down the road, but for me the safety is still not completely established. I don't want to be a test pilot. Since I still need ballast weight in the back of the Mooney I don't see the advantage yet. http://www.concordebattery.com/lion.php

I googled "Blue Aviation Battery" and can't find them, what's the name of the batteries?

If they are lithium ion I wouldn't see them getting approved due to all of the temperature variations and fire hazard potential.
