  1. Replaced my baffle seals with a set from Guy Gimbee. I didn’t think the old ones were that bad, but results are in. Now maintaining same temps 330-360 on same power setting (ROP) burning one gph less Not sure where the added speed came from. Expect it’s more air going through intercooler and cowl flap from 1/2 open to closed. Great fun. Thanks Guy.
  2. Thanks for all the replies. Plane has TKS set up, just some of the hot prop items remain. I’ll wait until next time prop needs to come off to remove them.
  3. That makes more sense. Thanks Mark.
  4. My plane has TKS. The hot prop rubber was left on after the addition. Anyone ever see data on efficiency loss of hot prop?
  5. I got my IR in the mid 80s. We had a six pack and needles. Upgrades were DME and a/p. In my opinion, GPS and on board weather have improved situational awareness such that VFR has more utility now than an IR rating back then for most GA aircraft. We used to get momentarily disoriented (lost) or happen upon unexpected weather and not know what was on the back side. I don’t miss those days, ever. Glad to have IR, but... If you really want to be a better pilot, get a tail wheel endorsement...just my opinion. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. Has a C. Trued out around 138. GREAT PLANE. Fast forward past a Bonanza A35 and an A36 to Mooney K. Love C. K can climb without tiring. Would I trade any of above for a good C? Maybe. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using Tapatalk
  7. In current configuration the Skybeacon won’t fit inside the enclosed light cover of my K. I rarely fly over 18k. Guess the nav lights have to be on for it to work? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  8. Good thread. My 430 and Sandel are pretty dated, but they couple well. This is my last plane. I hope. I will likely upgrade to WAAS with the 430 at same time I replace the KT-76 transponder. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using Tapatalk
  9. Anyone know how long Garmin will continue to support the 430/530 units? I am facing same decision.
  10. I have 262 as well. Live in Alabama, lots of hot starts. After flooding a cpl tImes, here's what I now do. Bump boost for one or two seconds, then start cranking. After a blade or two, hold down boost and continue to crank. Be prepared to give a little more boost after she fires.
  11. Flew five hours...battery charged iPad the whole time..and wife's phone, then my phone. Battery still has 3/4 bars. It's called a RAVPower 26800mAh...3 USB charge ports, 5.5 amps output. No more cigar lighter chords. Yippee.
  12. I'm the guy who always has charger problems and hopes the iPad can make it till I land, when I need it most. Anxious to try my new, one pound battery today! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. On longer trips I usually email for fee structure and fuel prices, then take copy of response. Prevents that unexpected fee they forget to tell you about. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Lots of threads on various props. My 1983 262 has the original 216 McCauley prop. The MT prop is a beautiful thing, but priced out of my range. Does anyone have experience switch from the 216 to the 221 McCauley prop that was standard for 252 and Encore? Is it really more efficient? Are there better two blade options now? I generally fly 17-19k going east, 6-8k going west. Thanks! Bryan Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Speeds... Final at 80 knots. When I know I have the field made, I chop the power. Not sure what speed I cross the fence at, but all seems to work out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. RainAir over in Birmingham, AL helped me with a bad remote gyro. Gary McCall is the guy. I recommend him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Rode in a 180 Arrow one time. That thing flew like a wind sock. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Dad flew the KC-97 Stratotanker with P&W 28 cyl, 3500 hp engines and turbojets on the wing tips. They carried a 55 gallon drum of oil. If an engine started taking oil, they would shut it down instead of using up their whole barrel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. The networks do a good job of making it look close, even when it isn't. Feels like watching the ball game. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
