  1. even the name"board of equalization"has friends in other states saying "you live in commie ville"what is it steal from the rich and give to the poor?
  2. good advice if I based in Dallas...not so great if im on either coast
  3. if my plane had been in the shop getting engine work (lifters ,seals)and I had a trip sheduled soon after ward., i would have .as others suggusted been more proactive in sourcing parts....especially continental or other PMI engine parts .In ,this case ,I have to blame the shop for not actively sourcing these parts.avial, direct continental etc...and by phone ,...sorry for your canceled trip...
  4. i have those Jacks ..they work fine on my Bravo using the lasar jack cone
  5. I just thought of something.Assume the VA tax assessor is correct and they can prove his plane was in VA for 90 days or over.I assume this occurred last year or even later during the height of COVID travel restrictions (airline, bus etc)preventing him from traveling to mpve the aircraft due to state mandated restrictions on travel.
  6. I agree a certificate action was indicated..were I disagree is ,was it the correct certificate action. Her previous incidents were taxing in a constricted area with visabilty problems in a tail dragger resulting in minor wingtip damage that was probably non reportable..but a person on the ground reported her and Faa started an action. The second incident occurred during a tiedown failure during a handpropping resulting in a runaway cub. This also resulted in FAA action. My problem is with how the FAA handled these 2 incidents that IMO revealed a bias.
  7. not quite...if FAA requests a 709 ride...your ticket is still good...BUT..if you fail the checkride or refuse to take it..than your cert is revoked.Marthas case...the FSDO office that revoked her certs is the same one she worked at and which nobody from there came to her retirement party!,which says a lot about how they felt about her.Than her writings about them were extremely unflattering....so ..its payback time.
  8. what did grandmaw do when Belushi does the "human squeeze the zit!!
  9. interesting...my letter took 2 years to arrive also...they disputed one of the flights (tucson ) i believe...cant remember the reason ,but what saved the day was i had the fbo change the oil and that logbook entry was proof
  10. or George Orwells other opus..Animal Farm....."all animals are equal.....some are just more equal than others..
  11. yes for interstate commerce exemption in favor of a business...even with all the requirements ,logging, proofs of business relationship...it is far from a Slam dunk...
  12. i dont anything about her diplomatic talents...what you pose is quite possible...Harrison Ford was quite publically apologetic and humble during his land on the taxiway..there were calls to ground him permently as the danger he posed was real and well filmed...he kept is cert...but he is a likable guy
  13. she could always go the ultralight route....FAA is essentially ignoring those guys as they make more and more drone rules (model airplane also)
  14. She was made an example of simply because of her fame.Regardless of opinions of whether or not flying under a bridge with more clearance than the golden gate (220 ft) poses enough actual risk (last 2 or 3 decades this would be treated with maybe a phone call and a carpet dance)FAA at his time likes to make examples...joe blow would likely get away with a 409 ride or a suspension.Total revocation is what she got...In dec im told she can start training for her SEl pvt.HMMM wonder when her CFI will solo her...or how the cfi with a 150 hrs in a 172 will quicky realize who is training who? Both of these scenarios happened to fellow 10,000 hr pilot who was on disabilty due to work back issues that the FAA cross referenced ssa disabilty list with medical statements of prior medical issues on his class 2 medical.Result..revocation of all certificates..his CFI on his required training stated it was like little league manager teaching Hank Aaron how to play right field!
  15. this is the one case that this plane makes sense..why have waas capabilty in a Place (continent)where waas is unlikely to ever be avalible.Negotiate on lack of waas....but you dont need it ,and cant use it ..the G1000 as it is installed is perfect for South America, central America even mexico
  16. agree ,first photo shows non continous weld, porosity and poor overlap....
  17. that is a long day Don...and as I have found crossing over into ore from northern ca,with any kind of weather ,alitude is your best friend and you were flying a FIKI Bravo .The only thing I would have done differently ,knowing I would be crossing the siskous again with less than 1/2 TKS would have been to refuel in BEND where they have TKS fluid and crew car to Sunriver....
  18. also i just noticed op location of his Ovation lists VA and Ark airports as his bases of operation under his member info.So reading the VA tax code...he would be liable for use tax if he exceeds there max stay
  19. you mentioned you already paid sales tax in another state...a copy of that billing usually prevents a second billing from another state...
  20. wrong equipment for this flight....happy outcome ,but some poor preflight /decision making considering weather and terrain
  21. ive flown this dp a few times to sac...everytime it was sns.v111 mod lin....but....as soon I climbed to cruise enroute SNS...i was usually cleared direct.....as others have said....no need to load anything....just takeoff in heading mode...
  22. if I had an aging kfc 150...that was failing..i would consider the Garmin...but not to simply replace a kfc 225..which is aging, but still a fully functioning digital autopilot. One of the first of its kind...repairs on servos from mine have been very reasonable...especially since getting repairs done at SAC exec autopilot .Before I knew better..servo issues would done by line item replacement...1800-2000 a pop.I did that once shortly after buying my Bravo.800 hrs later the same roll servo developed same issue..and was repaired by ap central for 300 (cold solder joint)A pitch servo was repaired (pitching up and down)by simple replacement of tach sensor moter used as feedback..800 bucks...thats it...smoothest flying roll steering a/p ive ever flown including the new Garmin.Only issue is incomplete cordination flying coulpled lps approaches with garmin 540/440 //avidyne 540/440 navigators requiring an additional button push to activate approach. Also ,sooner or later a Garmin component will fail..but we all know about Garmins minimum repair costs...there will be no inexpensive board level repairs at your local shop...oh and edit..the 225 is still avalible new from BK..scary expensive though
  23. yes...and now he really does have a bent prop!!Beaver is back on floats for what looks like a busy AK summer fishing season,...especially with Canada borders still closed for nonessential (ie fishing, hunting etc)travel
  24. that belongs to the owner of the bent prop lodge,AK..i met him at a stol race flyin at dead cow lake nv.Plane is usually on floats or skiis....he lives in Idaho winter season than summer in alaska. He was definitely having a bad day....
