Wanted, 1967 or later E or F model engine baffling
M20JFlyer replied to Sabremech's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
SABERMECH I feel very certain I have exactly what you need. I want to check that No-one has opened the box. I removed the entire assembly from my 67F and boxed it up approx four years ago. I will PM you at the E address in your post. -
Will only comment that the New-Mooney Team can be very proud of the energy invested.. and mostly the speed at witch this advanced design was accomplished. IMO Mooney retained the best qualities of an extremely fine airplane and made intelligent improvements . I will neither confirm or deny that I touched it or saw it.. But when "YOU DO" you will be proud you fly Mooney.

From my POH A BY-pass switch (red button) is installed next to gear switch to override safety switch circuitry if the gear does not retract. in a 91-J ...why do I think there is a small light bulb behind the red button that lites.. to indicate activation of the bypass sw. Vast Group of knowledgeable MS people !!! If by chance my hangar ferry looked behind the red button could he see and then borrow a small bulb. Because H. Ferries can sometimes be helpful I don't want to accuse him ..but only learn if he did see one.. What did he see..and where would I find another bulb?

Suggestions for taking 80+ yr old passengars
M20JFlyer replied to flyingvee201's topic in General Mooney Talk
I have mentioned this before on MS WHEN I HAVE AVERAGE AMERICAN 250+Lbs pax's I frequently remove co-pilot seat. this allows pax to use entire back seat and place a small (yetti ) cooler in place of cp seat For a compromised pax it allows loading the pax before me..sometimes actually walking into the plane with the feet on floor board where cp seat was ... then SLOWLY depositing A-- end into rear seat JUST SAYING -
Steve I can't be certain this will solve your problem..but believe you should be able to locate a workable one from any bone yard that will let it GO this part in my 91J was made by Sigma Tek ING from Agusta , Kansas although my J is a 28 volt the picture you sent has the same part number as my 28 v so be careful when you find a replacement to ask voltage just a tip. Properly mark these wires when removing i.e. As the new or replacement switch may have the label affixed in a different location. ( any questions about this comment give me a call) my expensive avionics shop messed up my switch installing a garmin radio Then made the problem worse with error installing the new switch.. A friend and I spent 2 hours trying to figure why the new part Wud not work we finally got with someone that was familiar and got it correct in one minute. P 832.655.4203

I have drank the cool aide from cont. and lycom for soo long ..soo many years that ... During my 53 years flying AIR cooled ICE aluminum engines I am told that "WEIGHT " is considered such an enemy of designing with metallurgy conducive to enduring what an ICE engine spu's ..but what a 1940's Chevy six can endure ---IT's just my ignorance . That Chevy engine does not have to perform in cold, hot , high elevation high RPM ,thinner atmosphere, turning an approx 50 to 70 inch flywheel...ever seen video of pikes peak hill climb for fear of being labeled an idiot " Trumpster" I should cave in and say NO lyc or Connie engineers have ever exceeded the function of a 1940's designed Chevy six cylinder with a60lbs clutch plate in the last 60 years - - I call Bullshit--that an engine costing north of 60K for a 4 cylinder -- to plus 90K for basic 6 banger ..Really !! Has no inherent rust protection no designed option or thought of some fog oriface(s) to lube my fragile cam or cylinder walls with an aerosol loaded with "metal surface" preserving lube ( similar to corrosion X or ??) dispersed at 20-40 microns in the cavity of the engine .. knowing the vast majority of SE ENGINES suffer lapses of usage detrimental to safe longevity ... Really, a fogging option would have no merit considering rust is the alternative I will concede that I get a high "every time" I depart my local Airport looking down on roof tops .. And that for the first 40 to 120 seconds those roof tops will interfere with a successful day flying if I am not marginally lucky ...or put another way I would really miss the opportunity to microscopically inspect my oil filter each 25-50 hours of operation ..as an inhibiting method to raise my relative numerical odds..that one system of my tough little engine ( the camshaft ) will not kill it's promise - to not fail me now. that to be safe & successfull today the leading GA mfg... of single engine AIRPLANE adds a ballistic chute special seating, enhanced cabin supports to remain successful in the single engine GA fray. Those parts that system are an affordable weight that would never be allowed in the power plant design of a modern airplane Or just saying ..my grand kids ask...Gpa .. How come we wear bike helmets, and put this flame thingy on when we take off ..other people we talk to don't need it? Yes I understand NO flying activity is more prone to interruption than full power departure and more headlines read shortly after leaving the airport. YES I KEEP FLYING understanding flying is not "more full of risk " today than 60 years ago , that statistically I am safer in the air than on horseback , and the enjoyment of flying far exceeds any other adventure I choose to enjoy pls let the game begin yeah I know this rant was all the result of flying LOP And ..what are the odds flying mag will ask for permission to include this tantrum in an upcoming issue

CWalsh If during the investigation you learn you need a BENDIX shower of sparks 12 volt module..give me a phone call i have one available if when you checked the battery you had greater than 12.5 volts on your multimeter your battery itself was most likely OK. Not knowing the model of your airplane had you noticed any prior symptoms or anomalies when asking the starter to work. There is a wealth of knowledge on MS and multiple topics on Mooney electronic system. most times a simple link of hygiene in the chain from battery to stater can locate loose or dirty ( corroded ) ??? I I am going to jump on two simple -soap boxes -- for my part today 1. Purchase a multimeter and keep it in your plane - it will pay you back X ten 2. Battery Minder -desulfurization model- ..keeping your battery topped at all times not flying. I do not subscribe to the battery tenders disguise battery condition ( if frequent IMC provide a safe alternate energy source for SA) Any one want a BENDIX shower of sparks module for Mooney or other plyons820@yahoo.com or P 832.655.4203

Hi. Hank Nice picture of your $$40.00 vessel IT'S spelled correctly...paying over $200.00 big ones for a 20 quart cooler is Getti. ... As in ( gettO ) let's not go there CNOE & HRM, I LIKE YOUR STYLE for those still having fun commutercruiser.com and check out the blogs on "Yeti or not to Yeti"

Just a comment on this topic. for those of you who have removed RF seat for a dog ( be careful with your comments) l travel 80% just me in left front with a nice proper sized getti cooler that is my co-pilot. completely changes the architecture of riding in a J or even the long bodies. Loading rear pax is a pleasant experience and allows pilot to be a part of the boarding procedures.. I have had many positive comment on 3 pax or 2 pax trips. If one super sized American sized additional pax he/ she can spread out and has room to perform work on his computer or whatever's solo in the back seat. My 120# wife even her and another < 170 pax are not a w&b in a Mooney. the getti cooler and a Velcro curtain for priv I cy for bio necessary makes a 4 4.5 -5 hour trip comfortable...Not everybody's gonna buy into this but intelligent decent bio break utilities are not embarrassing to use. This is 2015 and the puritans lost that war if it is necessary for fuel range/safety. All bets are off even if it adds big part of an hourlong to stop If the wind bunny is my friend not my enemy 800-850 miles is doable and Lop if CAVU VFR DAY IT's just a bio Break plus the pax can help themselves to refreshment far better than carnival food on an airline. 5.5 hours @ even 10.2 Gph is how you stop buying airline tickets and standing in TSA LINE Your any Mooney can do this JUST Saying::: Now start the screaming

FRC GREAT JOB. Nels I feel I have an oil cooler from my 1967 F that was OHed by pacific oil cooler 264 hours before I moved my oil cooler to back of my F. I then learned I would have been able to use the old cooler but mechanic balked at the STC using the old cooler. I am presently in Illinois and cooler is in hangar in SanAntonio...if you are able to wait approx 20 days I will be back in Texas and able to confirm I do or don't have the oil cooler in hangar Best I can do Pat

This comment is not water related but is fuel being added comment The mooney owners with the sight tank gauges Observe the number of " line people " who point the fuel filling NOZZLE toward the fuselage ... HENCE pumping a strong stream of fuel directly at your sight gauge . CAN ANYONE on MS share ... does our POH mention avoiding a forceful stream of fuel at the sight gauges mechanism ... should be avoided?? I have had to correct or instruct fuel people multiple times ..not to point the fill nozzle at the sight gauges.

I agree with comments of lancecasper and dimondan.. IAH IS NOT AN UNFRIENDLY AP It is significant to have a confident communication voice ... and to have done your homework regarding where on the airport YOU ARE PARKING and dimondan's suggestion of an enlarged AP DIAGRAM is a great idea. On approach mention your filed notes with your " first contact " with approach..NOT YOUR request for 8/26 ( let ATC pick ur Rwy ) And be prepared for the primary actives.. You are a mooney they know not to stack you close behind some heavy and they don't want some supervisor chewing their butt for doing that Also the time of day is relative ie 10:30 AM --3:30 PM for arrival is more friendly .. I always go IMC on a VFR day putting notes "request Rwy 8/26 in notes ..but remember ATC not the pilot picks the runway on the arrival and departure. If on departure you feel more comfortable leaving in 6/28 request it.. It's less of a departure from normal ops on the way out. Brush up on your com skills... Readback every taxi movement ... Your gonna feel better having done it Flew cancer chemo cocktails from Houston med center to Memphis Danny Thomas dozens of times

The process begins - this was just the outer layer of the leading edges!

When time allows Pls drop me an email Are you preparing to paint the entire plane? I have a 91 J that that has always been hangered The top of both wings are embarrassing I have never considered doing just wing tops but most friends at home airport trying to convince me to swallow my pride and fix what is in need not the whole plane Plyons820@yahoo.com. Very nice job on the upholstered interior. With 30 hours on the GTN750 are you still learning new tricks every flight. ??? Pat

Fellow Mooney Folks Is there a plan to have a group MOONEY PARKING SPOT?? If YES .. Will Mooney pilots ask the Mooney booth to act as gate-keeper of the location. In the past the parking area at S n F did not have a "grid system" like row A--Z. And 1-2-3 But I have seen something as simple as a balloons or cheap plastic beach balls from Wally mart .. A cheap hand made sign .. My ph # is 832.655.4203 ... For anyone that wants to plug it in their phone for duration of the show.. Be my guest. Based in KSAT just down the street from Kerrville for those that need a "cheap" part in a hurry. Pat Lyons

Would appreciate any suggestions on others results with gyro OH I have a king KAP 150 AP in a 91 J that uses the KG 258 AI ... P/N 060--0020-01. S/N 11667 Any one had overhaule experience with King AI OR THE 525-A HSI recently Based in San Antonio Thank you in advance for any comments Pat.
-
I believe there was a recent thread on "mooneyspace" TITLED experience with repair SHOPS For overhaul of King gyros and the 525 HSI. My Horizon gyro/AI is going south AND I Have plus 2,500 hours on both the AI and HSI. Was kind of hoping I would never need the Dynon back-up AI.. But was a good feeling to transition to an instrument vs partial panel when the AI began to act up. Am fixed in San Antonio but anticipate removing and shipping to shop with good forum referral Thanks in advance for your help. Caution Comment NOTE: the king KAP150 Autopilot controller did NOT shut down with quirky AI input. Thw first indication of problem was an altitude slip of 100 feet then 200 and I shut down AP .. then the dreaded slow gyro roll and subsequent killing of the KAP-150

I will begin by disclosing I am not a friend of our legal system wich allows an owner of ANYTHING to be sued for any exposure deemed to have a negative result by an opponent. I am not going to go down tyrant road, my 33 yr experience as a business owner instilled in me that all pockets deep or shallow will be vetted for what those pockets can contribute when someone thinks your ANYTHING can enrichen the POT in lay laguage " if your pot to piss in is an airplane," you can be assured YOU will recieve nasty grams .. And if the opposing party has GOOD council your insurance of 1M or 2M will be the FIRST firewall. If when the firewall is consumed and YOU still have additional assets the ownership of an airplane and the 1-2M for openers...puts the ANYTHING you posses at 7x more Risk than a party with NO airplane. ( check me out on this, it will flux by the state you reside) My question for the MS team: who has or presently has invested in a SURAGATE owner for your airplane?.

Did anyone visit the Bin Ao Aircraft- (Diamond quality ) exabition at EAA Airventure. I have not followed the progress of that mission but it appeared to be a marriage of Diamond as we know it and of Binao Diamond Aircraft ... being built in Shandong, China If they are still in progress they will be Shandong Bin Ao Aircraft Industries Co. Ltd If you drill down on the Chinese Diamond airplane marriage ... IMO their are similar things HAPPENING at MI. Plyons820@yahoo.com

Teejay Yes I have also read the comments on constant maintenance being damaging. The rock an hard place is can you harvest sulfation if you use a very low pulsing technology. VDC indicates theirs is using a pulsed source. Above my pay grade to decipher the technology I must admit how does one commit to SOO many Thanks for the feedback Pat
