I would be interested if any one learns or knows: What features does the Concorde specific ( BatteryMinder) provide.?. VDC ELECTRONICS, INC brochure lists the model I list below to be a maintenance battery charger- De-Sulfator This was the unit aviation consumer praised as the "best " approx four years ago. Like Matt I hangar my 24V J in TEXAS where summer heat plays havoc with batteries. My Concorde AGM IS FOUR YEARS AND three months as I write and has had the BatteryMinder attached when I am not traveling. For four years I have owned and used the first generation 24 volt Plug 'n Run model 24041-AA-S2 VDC BATTERYMINDER To date I am a Concorde fan but .. NOW .. New price of C AGM IS 0ver $ 550amu pat 832.655.4203

GTN 750 650 Squelch & Fuel flow
M20JFlyer replied to RocketAviator's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Marauder, Thanks for your response, please keep me on your list of those very interested in what you learn. If you get to OSH this year let's meet-up at the MOONEY booth. Garmin has nothing to gain from disregarding airplanes in the system with less than audible radio 's. The liabilities of prior experiences in the ARTC system should one of these radio's cause an incursion on a runway or elsewhere is unimaginable. I have confidence Garmin will be responsible and respond with appropriate attention to the affected GTN radio's. Again, anyone planning to attend AV-2014 please consider the advantage of meeting Garmin in numbers. Those of YOU on MOONEYSPACE with the ability to share my above post with Beech, Cessna, Piper or any applicable aviation forums please let this message be my assertive permission to share my comment(s)and concern of the GTN COMM anomalies . Thanking you all in advance, Pat. Plyons820@yahoo.com. 832.655.4203 -
GTN 750 650 Squelch & Fuel flow
M20JFlyer replied to RocketAviator's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I have been following this thread for two years: I ALSO have a Garmin GTN 750 with unreliable comm in my J model MOONEY --installed by a certified Garmin dealer. I have transcripts from HOUSTON, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Orlando, Boston , New York , Chicago ,fort worth, Denver .... Each of the ATC center(s) I have listed have asked if I can switch radio's WITH A BROKEN UNREADABLE transmission In addition the Fort-worth/DFW HAS provided a copy of my sportys SP 400 hand held and 23 y/o KX155 compared to the GTN750. I am really a nice person, AND I have been treated respectfully by Garmin at OSH AND SnF. All I have ever asked is : GARMIN --PLEASE -- select a dealer of garmins's choice to remove my unit, determine if an antenna or some deficiency exists from the install of my existing GTN750 by the certified Garmin installer and install a new GTN750 WITH THE CURRENT updates...using my unit as a test unit to rectify the anomalies under the auspices of your technicians Considering the repeated similar anomalies of other GTN 750 units am I being unreasonable?? I need my airplane to GO PLACES, and I need the GPS FUNCTIONS OF THE 750 to be able to travel IMC. GARMIN: please do not request I remove it and send it to the west coast to be ""looked at" ""I need my airplane to GO PLACES, and I need the GPS FUNCTIONS OF THE 750 to be able to travel IMC " IS ANYONE READING THIS ( with a unfriendly GTN750 ) PLAN TO ATTEND OSH 2014 If possible, please email me at plyons820@yahoo.com or call 832.655.4203 I am trying to raise an appt with Garmin tech at AIR-VENTURE 2014. Any response appreciated Pat -
I fly frequently with family pax in the back seats of my J. No prop spins or wheels turn till we have recited the required EXIT drill including the baggage door which has a large 2 inch red EMERGENCY placard attached clearly inside the bag door. 1. Reading the prior posts on flying with bag door locked reminds me that the 34 gallons of 100ll is located under my exit path. 2. That in recip pistons take off is a demanding time for our 4 cylinder lycoming. 3. My grand kids have their rip stick helmets on and once a year have done a mock exit pulling the pin and opening that emergency exit. ( my plastic cover for this pin is in a drawer in my hangar) my bag door is not locked in flight. 4. The planes PLB IS VELCROED to the top of the cabin and goes out with the first exiting pax. We do fly the strongest most safe single engine ever built ..pls.. And this forum is redundant with safety issues every day I have been asked no less than 100 times why I have a bicycle helmet in my cockpit. Any comments on off field landings are appreciated. Thank you Carusoam The new JPI EGT probes were installed in same holes as original insight at factory. I will admit running EGT's over 1400 seem excessive (ie 1420 -1430) and it is easy to get there. I know there is an extremely good bunch on this forum... And I need to be punched and prodded some to learn new ways. I am a convert to dare I say it LOP BUT that is not what my mission is on this post. Mostly would love others opinions

Just finished install of the JPI and broke it in on trip from SAT to KILM by way of memphis . Trip was approx 2,300 nautical at 9500 going 6500 returning to SAT-Texas . OAT temps were similar at 50F To and from Prior to 830 had the shadin mini fuel flow and insight EGT/CHT MY OBJECTIVE : learn from this group what are parameters of ... Or is there such a thing??? as a sweet spot OR A never exceed hot spot on EGT . { not asking was 830 correct choice or if LOP vs ROP} I prefer my CHT @ 350 to 380 in cruise an oil temp + or - 15 degrees of 200 depending on OAT PLANE Is a 91 j with the original A3B6D with 1,100 hours since(LYCON in California OH ) 2460 TT engine What is best way to find existing threads on the EGT TEMP on the mooney space forum?? (Rubber Gear Pucks) Offer to Buy in Bulk
M20JFlyer replied to M20JFlyer's topic in General Mooney Talk
Rob, No such thing as a bad question..I am a chemist by training. Perhaps a simple call to Lord is in order. The pucks are made by Lord and are dated when mfg'ed. Under no compression and stored out of light, heat and anything one can determine is unhealthy for rubber... I will make a wild guess they would be minimally compromised in storage for 5-7 years. Perhaps someone seeing my comment will have a better more scientific answer. Lord engine mounts see extremes and hold up well for 5-7 years. PS: I have heard that some owners of heavy Mooneys jack the planes when hangared with full fuel. Full fuel when stored will give your tanks a longer life. -
PLEASE READ the following message threads from Randy Herber of Herber Aircraft and my self. The very last message .. bottom of this post .. explains Herber's offer to purchase Mooney gear pucks. During Air Venture 2012 last week I discussed with the Lord Rep the future availability of the landing gear pucks and the potential of new chemistry appearing in the near future, that would improve the current pucks. No change in future product. ( low volume will not support re-certification expenditures) Lord did comment small run(s) in mfg will most likely create an increased cost in near future. I asked Lord Rep to request Lord distributors prepare a best price scenario for orders of pucks. The only distributor responding was Herber Aircraft in California. I am not certain if the long body (heavier) Mooney's use the same pucks, or better stated is their only ONE part # for Main and Nose pucks for all Mooney aircraft using the eleven puck set-up??? Members of Mapalist: I would like your input on best way to present this offer to MAPA, any MSC and Mooney owners in general. I / we do not want to alienate anyone with an established channel to purchase pucks, but I certainly got the feeling it is such a low order profit center for Lord that a 20% SALE price provides some incentive for owners, MSC's and any one hedging on petroleum based products ... a chance to secure a set or inventory of pucks. $85.00/puck is not an enormous saving ... but a 20 airplane order MAY ensure Lord keeps the part # , the product part alive. Offer good untill Nov. 1st 2012 I look forward to your thoughts and any suggestions. Fellow Mooney Space pilots: On March 2 of 2012 I started a thred on the King/Bendix/Honeywell Autopilot Servo Trim Motor Failure and repair. At that time I was getting difficult NEWS to digest on the cost ($$$ mega bucks) to repair the Pittman Motor that drives the Servo. If the AP in question is a King ..it is possible the TRIM SERVO motor was built by Pittman . I had my motor NOT THE SERVO electronics repaired and all is working fine 46 hours since motor repair. King AutoPilot Servo Motor Repair
M20JFlyer replied to M20JFlyer's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Aviator -Reb and 716 thanks for the contd. follow-up At present this does not to seem to be a very popular topic. When the fickle finger of fate points at anyone flying a 100 or possibly a 200 series K-AP perhaps WE THREE can recall this topic for Mooneyspace. It would be very interesting if someone other than me confirms what I got from AP central in Tulsa and other BK avionic shops ....I know Berry Sparks ( a good guy) so well at Tulsa He would probably recognise my voice. The message conveyed was next to impossible to believe...but I am not tryin to kill the messenger!!! If it is indeed true that Honeywell has walked then on to plan B... It sure has sparked little to NO interest on Mooney space to date. Thanks guys for your help Pat Lyons N9135W at KAXH Houston -
King AutoPilot Servo Motor Repair
M20JFlyer replied to M20JFlyer's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Aviator Reb: and all others flying behind a King 100 series AP and perhaps King 200 series AP I think I failed my English writing class-- in fact I know I failed. The numbers I indicated in my first post are the wild guess from a Honeywell Rep I spoke with. The Numbers(s) 10 or 20 thousand UNITS is the what Honeywell anticipates are the Units still flying in the American fleet, plus some number for the rest of the world. Most 100 and 200 series Bendix King UNITS have three servo's ...so approximately 30,000+ servo motors could be in service. My point with Honeywell: How the hell can you walk from 10 thousand customers...leaving them with an unclear picture of SERVICE for the Servo Motors of Approx Ten Thousand Customers. ( Aerostar,Beech, Cessna, Mooney, Piper, Aero Commander and ect..ect????? So My question for the SPACE is:: has anyone gotten a RECENT quote for a Bendix King servo motor repair or replacement ???? King AutoPilot Servo Motor Repair
M20JFlyer replied to M20JFlyer's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Pilot 716 and Aviator-Reb thanks for the comments. Autopilot Central in Tulsa is good people and they can tackle most any AP problem. But they don't repair Servo Motors they repair the electronics. Where I am going with this inquiry is to learn ..What a pilot is faced with if he learns the small motor in the servo has gone South. I am a member of a large flying group...about 50+ members in Houston TX area and have been hearing horror stories of replacement cost of the servo Motors. Three members have King AP's out of service because of Servo Motors and we are trying to learn of some one that will repair the very small Pittman Servo motors. We have some high tech NASA knowledge in limbo in Houston ... an one person .. looking at these Pittman Motors sez they are definetly repairable..but is not interesred in doing the FAA fight ..if there is no significant interest. (volume needing repair) Some of hese 20 year old motors will someday need some TLC and when that day comes {FOR YOU} hold on to your pocketbook unless we beging now to develop some plan. Mooneyspace guys an gals ...I am not tryin to be an alarmist... but if you want to get your heartbeat up call AP central in Tulsa or any BK service center... and request a new servo motor for your AP !!!! -
Does any one know if the King 200 series and the newer King 140 series of Bendix/King..now Honeywell autopilots, use a Pittman Motor in the Servos. If you have had recent experience with needing service on a King/Bendix AP SERVO please PM me at the e-addres at the bottom of this message. The King 100 series does indeed use Pittman for the servo drive motor. This week I made contact with several BK service centers. All had less than happy news to share... if indeed the servo motor is not up to spec. Not up to spec does not mean your motor has quit but that the service center determined the servo's motor will not perform to standards. Would anyone who had this problem share what they were quoted as cost to repair the servo motor if a servo motor was the required repair????? Honeywell anticipates that over 10K perhaps as many as 20K BK, Allied Signal and Honeywell units averaging three servo's per unit are in use. ( this number is not a verified number) If you are flying an airplane with a BK autopilot and a servo motor were to become in-op your AP will quit. Has anyone recently experienced a KAP 100 series or King 200 series autopilot repair when the service required a servo motor repair? If you can share your experience with MooneySpace or PM me it would be appreciated. Pat Lyons N9135W plyons820@yahoo.com

The KAP 150 AP KS 177 Pitch Servo Part # 065-0050-04. Was some posting on this subject in February thru August of 2011. Post person was indicating an overhaul experience for the servo, with large variance in OH price. Recall the Post had a $1,500 to $750.00 variance. Also someone had replaced manual electric trim switch. Does anyone know part#(s) for the three switches on the control wheel. Having problems with manual electric trim preventing the Autopilot from succesful test. Was shooting approaches and all was well with AP intercepting LOC and GS on four approaches. Approx ten minutes later on final to landing the electric trim went in-op. The trim went nose down required heavy back pressure, I fought it for about ten secons, CWS and disconect did not stop nose down, then hit avionics master to kill AP ... all went well. After shut down can not get AP to conduct succesful self test. This is a 91 J model with no prior glitches in AP system last five years. Any suggestions appreciated.

Gentelmen: This airplane has 2242 TT AF Has always been hangared except when working. It needs someone to give it a second chance or it will begin to appear as parts in approx 60-90 days. I got a 91 J model in 2005 and the pictured Blue Monkey will loose it's opportunity to live in a hangar this fall....and rather than see it rot outside I need to sell it. She was sold last summer and the new buyer clipped the right wing on a storage bldg. taxiing less than 100 feet from the hangar. She is not ferryable from Houston...but will divide her at baggage door and bring it to someone on a trailer. If interested pm me at plyons820@yahoo.com and I will send more data and more pics SOMETHING REASONABLE as an offer takes it ...just put over 10K in top OH and firewall forward less than 240 hrs ago...new skytec statrer, new engine mount (Kasolla) all new muffler Dawley, Bendix servo OH, precise backup vacum, new vac pmp all new hoses ect ect.

Need help and suggestions for best method to locate an oi leak. Has anyone had experience or succes using an OIL DYE or talcum powder approach to loacating leak? I will make a short list of what has been done, this is not a wet/messy inside the cowl leak..do dripping but I have a stream of oil from cowl back over wing only on left side of fuselage. Most obvious checks: Mag secure NO VIS..valve cover 4 new cork nv 4 oil return lines new hoses new clampps NV oil sump drain hose and new hose clamp..check accesory case vac pump, fuel pump, governor assembly oil filter assemb.,,NV not sure of terminoligy but slot on sump drain line is correct large O rings on return air tubes to sump replaced. Prop assbly nv .. oil drain new O ring check assby. oil sump area visual noV replaced the push tube gaskets on left side spent time checking case joint. Am sure their is some obvious place or situation we have overlooked. The inside of left cowl and left side of engine have light film but no obvious leak location is evident. Comp is 70+ all four..CYL temps, EGT's , oil temp and MP are normal. Use areoshell 100w-plus running six qts. Oil consump is just under one qt in 4.5 hour. Run WOT X 2500 20 degrees LOP. Any suggestions or a name of an overhaul shop or good source to find a small pesky leak will be appreciated. Based Houston N9135 W Pat Lyons

Returning last nite from Atlanta to Houston...right wing strobe became eratic. First indication was on preflite ..hit switch left and tail lit up immediately... right did not...by runnup approx 4-5 minutes right tip was sparking..good intensity but but was eratic during flite back to Houston. Have not had time to learn if 91J came Kerville factory with Hoskins or Whelen. Can any one answer this one.? also how many power supplies for a three lite system where all three points fire same time?? Any Help would be appreciated. Thanks

Have a 91 J model...has tips and tail strobes from factory. Just had a glitch begin yesterday October 2, on nite trip from Atlanta to Houston, TX...Left WT and Tail work fine Right tip is intermittent. Be interested in what you learn. My strobes are not sequential..all (Three spark) at the same time..does that mean I have three power systems...Not even sure mine is Hoskins or Whelen YET...I do know to respect strobe systems they are dangerously high voltage when they trigger. If you would like...e-mail or call to share what you learn plyons820@yahoo.com or 832.655.4203 Pat Lyons
