  1. Seems to upload upside down
  2. Not quite as extreme as the backcountry flying video but lots of fun. Got to take my Duce out today on Red Clay Lake in NW Arizona. Felt like summer. Sorry to rub it in for all you Mooniacs in the cold parts of the country. Red Clay lake would make a nice Mooney runway.
  3. I have a tailwheel plane and I've practice my share of landings on back country strips. I think I'd make better landings in my Mooney vs. My tailwheel. I would take my Mooney but I don't want to nick up my 8K top prop I bought 3 years ago.
  4. Thanks for the pictures. It brought back many memories. I use to surf sunset beach regularly and also took advantage of October swells under the Golden Gate bridge while attending school in SF.
  5. Just some perspective. I have a friend who is 95 years old. He started flying B17's at the age of 18 ww2. At the end of the war his job was ferrying P38 Lightings from East coast to West coast. He bought a practically new P-38 with extra superchargers for $600 and some change. He flew it for a few years and sold it to a women for $2500.00 who air raced it. If he would have only kept it.
  6. I don't think my Father in-law is interested in selling. We were curious of its value so I inquired mooneyspace. After finding out it was a swastika I did find a forum on google with a topic of a similar marking with bullet holes and the forum mentioned a minimum value of $250.
  7. That totally makes sense now. I kept looking at German airplanes online and couldn't find cross markings that small. We just assumed my wife's Grandpa cut it down to 13'' to hide it in his pack but maybe it was done so not to offend others by displaying a swastika.
  8. I'm visiting my in-laws for Christmas and my Father- in- law showed me a piece of a German airplane from WW2. My wife's grandpa was a B24 gunner and was stationed in England during the war. A German airplane(don't know what type) was shot down near his base and he cut the marking out of the German aircraft. Size is 13'' square so he could fit it in his pack to bring back home to the States. My in-laws asked me what I thought its worth is. I search online and came up empty and the thought occurred maybe some of you on mooneyspace might know.
  9. I would like to see some fishing line attached to the tail tie down ring. It would be great to see a couple of trout dangling when the 182 departs out of the river.
  10. It happened to me once. I forgot to shut the latch. I aborted the landing and luckily no damage occurred. My interior panel came off and I located it on the runway. I was able to pop it right back on the baggage door. I now lock my baggage door as part of my preflight.
  11. I have a Sporty's 200. I've never had an issue. I use it in my experimental as my main comm. I would think the 400 would be the same in reliability.
  12. From an unknown aircraft waiting in a very long takeoff queue: Unknown aircraft: "I'm f...ing bored" Tower Air Traffic Control: "Last aircraft transmitting, identify yourself immediately". Unknown aircraft: "I said I was f...ing bored, not f...ing stupid."
  13. I have a friend who had no medical, no biannual, his airplane was out of annual. He landed wheel up in Kingman AZ. The airport insisted contacting the FAA. My friend went back with a fresh prop and flew it back to his airpark the next day. When the FAA got a hold of him concerning how the airplane got back to his home base and he straight up told them he flew it back. His license was suspended 1 year and no fines. No attorney's involved. I was surprised how lenient the FAA was.
  14. If you do decide to OH your generator I would suggest you find a local electric motor repair shop. I remember paying around $60 to OH mine not to long ago. If you get an OH'd unit from aircraft spruce it will set you back $300.
  15. I would get a Zeftronics VR. Electronic vs. mechanical. It made a world of difference in radio noise with mine.
  16. For how cold at that altitude and not have any shrinkage. The Navy should be impressed.
  17. I know there are quite a few veterans here on mooneyspace. I just want to say Happy Veterans Day and thank you for defending our freedoms.
  18. My point was a super Viking is 70K and an Ovation is going to set you back 270K. Performance is roughly the same. In an earlier post I stated the Ovation is going to cost 200K more. In my opinion the super Viking is a good performance value.
  19. You can buy an Ovation for 70K
  20. True. But you have to figure the cost difference between the 2 planes. The Ovation is going to cost you $200,000 more.
  21. I move mine by the tail. Never a problem. I'd call Searay in Florida and ask for their advise.
  22. I love tube and fabric. The wood wing is nothing to repair compared to a metal wing. Just find a good cabinet maker(not kidding). I have friends who have cruisair's and they taught me the skills of wood and fabric. That's what got me into wood wing Mooney's. If looking for a turbo the Viking is a hard value to beat. I've been told many times that ice doesn't build up on wood wings. Not sure if it's true or not. I can't confirm it on the internet so it must not be true. lol.
  23. I just read Kathryn's report for N672BA that had a water crash landing last April. Maybe not real forgiving in landing configuration. I don't know much about plane other than it's very cool looking. One thing I'm wondering is if it flips over in the water how do you get out of it.
  24. I don't mean to be cruel but wow what a great way to go bird hunting if carrying a shot gun.
