  1. The belly beacon was on when I bought the plane - I actually have two on the bottom the one that used to rotate in the very back and the one about center wing, that one is used at night with the navigation lights. I do love my manual gear and flaps!!!! I bought the wifi back for the gopro, I recommend it highly. I'll try it with the camera further back, I also saw a clip with it mounted on the vertical stabilizer, that was a cool vantage point.
  2. finally got up the nerve to trust a suction mount - the ram mount is much better than what you get with the gopro Got this shot landing over the weekend - kind of hazy so the here to there shots weren't as impressive. http://www.youtube.com/embed/7lS81PJdmao
  3. Or one could preface the miscellaneous aviation forum topic with "Never Again - the day I ........." a forum search with "Never Again" in the topic would show the posts. If they gain traction they could always be moved into a newly created forum.....
  4. Spent some time with the "other woman" today changing out the cam locks on the cowling and such - such a pretty day I wanted (needed) to fly but I had my cowling apart in various stages. I hanger at Texas Taildraggers and the Citabria had just come in. I've wanted to go up in a taildragger - so I took an hour pause and went up in the pattern with the CFI. WOW - it was like I've never sat in a plane before let alone fly one. Flying with a stick was a trip, the little fabric plane jumps into the air and is oh so unforgiving. That said - I've got the bug and am going to master that little plane and get a taildragger endorsement. I know for a fact it will make me pay attention to the rudder control in my Mooney......
  5. Depends on how much room the boys in Kerrville left you around the tube..... Note to Paula - it would be awesome to have the nut welded or brazed to the clamp...... just sayin' @kurtsnyder - check your PM..
  6. My solution for the selector http://mooneyspace.com/topic/5636-my-fuel-selector-solution/
  7. I can attest to that - it didn't happen to me but my boss in his two month new to him Baron 58 - he had traded a 55 - co pilot was the corp. plane pilot. They were headed to OSH and landed halfway from Texas to fuel. On takeoff the door popped - circle back and land, close the door, takeoff again - the door popped, this time they landed and decided to have a mechanic look at it, being Saturday they decided to rent a car and drive the rest of the way (10 hours.) The owner called the home field and the trusted mechanic flew up to Missouri to check things out, but not before asking if they had closed the door properly - assured that they had, the mechanic flew up. The mechanic arrived checked things out and didn't find any fault. Got in the plane took off, flew around, made a couple landings and take offs - no issue. Upon closer inspection he found a small mark / dent where the protruding lock pin had struck the door sill. The "Pilot" passenger did not open the latch fully prior to closing the door....... From what I hear the ride back from OSH to pick up the plane was fraught with occasional expletives
  8. Never saw it in the POH but thats how I got mine shut one day - open the window and slip it.
  9. only the turbo's - a little less for the N/A
  10. I went the other way - fixed to inertia reel I found the fixed much too restricting during the flight wound up loosening the harness and then having one more thing to remember whilst coming in for landing.
  11. My trip from Houston to Oshkosh netted the same results - got a hole across most of Missouri - Houston to New Orleans held at least two stations all the way at 7500 and 8500 lower (2000) was spotty at the Tx - La border. I definitely would wait to have it prove itself out before looking at it as a primary for anything. I use it to augment my VFR planning.
  12. Good idea on the ohm meter.
  13. I'll be checking the wiring for connections, The probes only have about 75 hours on them. if it crops up again I'll change the probe to see if the issue follows. Thanks all.
  14. So here's the setup IO360a1a Flying home from OKC around 7,500 settled in after the climb and look to my EGT to adjust the lean - number 2 is zero'd out the rest were reporting normally Slight panic - lost a cylinder? no - making good power, air speed seems a little bit slower than normal but not more than 4 knots and I haven't got things quite to cruise. No obvious change in the performance no undo vibrations..... I surmise I've lost a probe or have a bad connection I land at home, turn on the taxiway and notice that all four cylinders are reporting normal Has anyone had something similar happen? Will spark plugs come and go at altitude ? I cant imagine the likelyhood of two plugs at the same time reacting like this but stranger things have happened. I've set aside some time with the mechanic but thought I'd ask.
  15. Every time I let go of the throttle the CFI would pull it to idle (long runways of course.....)
  16. I had pretty much the same issue with my DG - We solved it this way
  17. best spot free rinse there is - fly through a shower
  18. well there's your problem right there!! Glad it was an easy fix - better than a crack in the aluminum!
  19. Awesome folks!!! just placed my order!
  20. Thought I'd share an experiment (maybe I'm late to the game and its been done before) Over time I've noticed that while on flight following when traffic is called out, the percentage of success vs not of spotting traffic was, for both others and me, not as high as I personally would like. So I've put on an LED landing light that I leave on all the time. But that's not the experiment. The last five times I've been called as someones traffic I've waited for the pilot to respond as looking, at that point I rock my wings three or four times in hopes to "flash" my position. In all five cases the pilot looking for me immediately calls traffic in sight.... 100% What do others do?
  21. John - we'll give you a shout.
  22. Tonight I heard the beckon call of some night flying. My currency had dropped off some months ago prior to summer. So out I went to the airport did the preflight and checked all the night things twice - lights, two extra flash lights dialed in my spare radio and then one more walk around the plane. Got up in the air and was taken by the whole experience - flying over the city recognizing all the areas hemmed in by street and car lights and just the beauty of it all. On my first landing the downwind was an easy - 1000 foot downwind 100 mph quick look at the gps - 1 mile pattern first GUMPS. Abeam the numbers make sure my rpms were right - couple pumps on the flaps - couple spins on the trim - check over the shoulder look for the threshold.... There it was - the green lights were especially green the night is gorgeous - turn base full flaps adjust trim - looking good, check the runway, there's them pretty green lights. Check my speed and descent rate - looking good. Turn final - GUMPS - 80 mph - just floating along "night flying is fantastic no wind just a still evening - gonna be a greaser"..... There’s them green lights - pretty.... looks like Christmas them green and RED lights - No I didn't bend anything - even managed to grease the landing BUT.... I did stop for a period of time to reflect on the stupid thing I had just done.. I was definitely below glideslope how far is hard to tell - luckily my first landing was at my home airport, and though I know from day flying that one can cheat the slope and not get into trouble it was night and my attention had not been where it should have been. This evening could have been a bad one. Lesson learned - fortunately not the hard way. Fly safe Mike
  23. Hotel info Best Western Plus Westbank – on LaPalco Blvd. most everything else was full.....
  24. Great input from all!!! Plan on being there about 10ish - I'll be calling to cancel the car - our first visit will be all local - John - I have to check with the wife on the hotel - she handled that aspect.
