  1. Lesson learned - I recently put windows in my F - during the course of installing them 300 some screws nuts and brackets I was moving my somewhat ungraceful body around in the rear seat. I had (operative word - had) a 5 pound abc extinguisher on the floor area in front of the rear seats - with my attention turned to the window I repositioned my foot - knocked off the pressure gauge on the extinguisher and fogged the interior of the plane. I can tell you that had that extinguisher discharged in the air, purposely or not, it would have been the one and only link in a loss of control accident. I was totally incapacitated by the dry chemical, couldn't see and couldn't breathe. Halon would/will be the only option. BTW - clean up took the better part of an entire day.
  2. Up tonight - leveled off at pattern altitude - exited the pattern to the south, settled everything out and turned my attention to the IPad - all connected to stratus - stratus was seeing two stations and had "recently updated" both local and contus radar. I was at 1500 at that time. Next time I'll have someone in the right seat to pay attention as to when it actually makes the hook to ads b stations. Better yet I'll have someone else take off and give me time to play!!
  3. I notice a variance as well - number 4 is always higher in taxi - gound ops - but all even out under power to within 30
  4. Pretty aircraft! The 201 is a sweet plane....but then again, the M20C I had was a sweet plane, so was the 201, and so is the 231 I have now. It's just hard to want to fly anything else when you have flown Mooneys.
  5. My Stratus arrived at work today - I'm on the 30th floor of my building with the units remote antenna about 12 foot from the windows. My office is SSW of KIAH (Bush) basically between Bush and Hobby - I view the general direction of Bush- Plugged it in to charge - turned on the WIFI hooked my IPhone, IPad and bosses IPad (6 offices down) It registered immediately and by the time I browsed the instructions it was painting weather - giving me ceilings, flight rules etc etc etc across the US. Very cool - I can't wait to get in the air to see how it does. This looks to do all I will need for now.
  6. Just have momma or one of the kids spray it up when you take your next trip
  7. Great experience with Avionics Unlimited I have a 430 that I wanted to do the terrain update - called them and they had me come up with the plane, pulled the radio, installed the board, back in the plane all checked within an hour - great folks.

  10. Glad to hear that things worked out (eventually) Next time you have the issue with the jack not quite fitting do like I do - roll it forward half a roll on the tire - they are only flat on the bottom )))))
  11. Temple run is quite addictive.....
  12. Quote: jetdriven I have used ADS-B on a Skyradar box and it is a great tool. The Gulf Coast is pretty saturated with stations. Antenna placement is my big concern with ADS-B. I am not so sure that the Stratus internal antenna is going to cut it. FWIW you get everything but lightning (which I hear has limited value) and cloud tops. I know of no interface between ADS-B weather and a Garmin. They will sell you a GDL-69 for big $ $$$ however. And then the XM subscription.
  13. I'll preface my post with the fact that I'm not IFR rated but in the beginning stages - Does no one use flightwatch? I find it a bit odd it isn't mentioned in any post thus far. I've used it on the way from Alabama to Texas about 45 minutes out to confirm my expectations of conditions at the home field
  14. Quote: jetdriven Nonsense! According to legend, a Bravo needs to come in over 90 KTS on final and needs 4K feet to stop!
  15. I've got the same whine in mine - I find comfort in it as it indicates my alternator is charging...

Quote: Hank But now that I've resealed my tanks, overall fuel consumption seems to be down, so I get to refigure everything. My favorite feed run went from 8 gals to only 6 gals,
  17. Interested.
  18. Sounds like that was the case around most of the south - we went to Lufkin - luckly I planned high 7500 to get the most from my new windows, smooth ride, but bumpy on the way down. My luck was that I usually have crosswinds where I land and yesterday they were almost directly down the runway at both ends.
