  2. Thank you! Yes, I am finally seeing how this works. The spring pushes against the tab. If the springs aren't safety wired, they could rotate so the bump in the spring would no longer contact the tab and thus slip out on the head end.

  4. This now has me thinking that my oil issue (pushrod tube on exhaust) may have been detonation on #2.

  8. Jose, thank you! That said, now I am worse off than before because I really don't see what the spring does. The tube on my #2 exhaust is pulled away from the head, but where did it go? Does the spring keep the tube tight against the head end and if gone, let's say, the tube pushes down into the camshaft end? I can't get to the hangar until next week to look and this is driving me nuts.

  10. Anybody have a photo of the top (looking down) of an IO-360 showing the pushrod tubes? The parts diagram is exploded and I am curious as to how the spring clip works.
  11. This supports my contention "if conditions are right". So then you might contemplate a T&G checklist, just so everything is 'right' before and while you do one. Now you wonder if it is worth it. If you are a young ace, go for it. The reason the luck bucket is so full when you are young is because your RT is fast, not because of magic.

  13. Shortly after I got my E I flew out to T78 with it's 3800' runway. After enjoying the cheap, self-serve avgas, I took off. Jeez! What was wrong with this plane. Not super at all. Then I realized that I had failed to trim for take-off. Yes, the plane is super, can't say the same for the pilot. Once I trimmed she took off like the rocket she is. Anyway, a T&G in a Mooney is fine if conditions are right. I am getting too old to risk it and what you gain from doing them is not quite worth it.
  14. My parts manual looks like it calls out an "8292-11 clip" on each of the outer rails at the back. This is on the diagram for the rails. There is no mention of a clip or anything on the diagram for the seats themselves. I think if it was supposed to be a cotter pin it would have said so. Here's my guess (and anybody please correct me with more accurate info). There were two special purpose clips used to keep the seats from running all the way back on the rails. These little clips would get lost at annual and be difficult to replace; i.e., Mooney unique part. A&Ps would just stick a cotter pin in. One day, decades later, all the little clips had disappeared and A&P lore came to be that a cotter pin was what went back there.

  16. You have two paths to ground from the battery through your transistors that will contribute to parasitic battery drain. The good news is that the reverse saturation (leakage) current for a 2N2222 is going to be in nano amperes.
  17. The hangar elves put these on my E: My IA groused a bit at annual about "damn hangar elves", but put them back on. There's a Lowes close to the airport so I am guessing they got them there.

  20. The relay opens the cabin light circuit so that regardless of the state of the light switch, it goes off. The question remains: what powers your relay or the circuitry that holds the relay on during the delay? That circuit may continue to draw power and thus be parasitic. If it is electromechanical, then it might shut off completely after the delay.
  21. If you are in a hurry (Eric tends to be wordy) try here. With a Mooney, the test should be fairly straightforward, but it helps to know the electrical system. There could be something not on a breaker, but with a fuse somewhere.

  25. Great minds think alike!!! This is exactly the upgrade I am planning until my wife changes my mind. My XPNDR solution at this point is the Stratus ESGi. I like the ForeFlight interface and it would give me 'dire emergency' AHRS if needed. I also have the Narco and with the ESGi it all goes in and behind the panel.
