  1. Still having cooling issues with #4. I have worked on the baffling and have gotten it working except for these little kinks. Trying to figure out how to get rid of these. I still can't keep #4 < 420 in cruise with the cowl flaps closed. Any thoughts on how to get rid of the kinks?
  2. I have the G1 and it is nicer than the old GEM I had in the C model. Like the numbers for temps/leaning.
  3. I had the same thing about a month ago, there would be grease, not oil on the cowling after each flight. Prop needed new seals around the blades so had it overhauled.
  4. I removed all four servos. They will go back to Brittain for overhaul/exchange. The servo in the left wing had a broken vacuum line. Now I need to figure out if I can fix the end of the line or need to pull new vacuum line. Thanks for the suggestion about disabling the system. Hadn't even occurred to me.
  5. Assuming you didn't move the trim, I wouldn't pull at all. If you level the wings, you would probably end up pushing pretty hard as the wing will seek it's trimmed speed resulting in a huge pitch up.
  6. I need to remove three 40 year old servos to send to Brittain for overhaul. Is it okay to fly without the servos in place? I read somewhere that you should definitely not cap the vacuum lines to the servos after they are removed. Otherwise will wait until the airplane is down for annual to remove them. Thx Mark Jackson N201TK
  7. I believe Skybolt also sells fasteners with large collars to replace the original fasteners. I am thinking about them for the cowling as well. http://www.skybolt.com
  8. Yeah based in Houston. Bringing a small cooler and drinking 1-2 bottles of water when I fly up to Waco or down to the Valley helps. I also wear Nike dry-fit shirts. Anything cotton is completely drenched by take-off. And carry a couple gym towels to wipe off your head/headset/seat. Other than that, fly early/late, keep the cowl flaps open, and get as high as possible.
  9. Having landed one without the gear, about 17 times. Honestly, check list before turning base, configuration check on base, and GUMPS on final. On an ILS, landing checklist before FAF and GUMPS on short final.
  10. Given the very small numbers of installation discussions/photos I have seen in the Mooney space and in the RV world, I would be worried about King cutting them loose in a couple years. Shame cause it looks like a decent box but their GA company essentially went to Garmin as I understand and they do BizAv now.
  11. Garie is the name of the navaid/fix. GY is the radio identifier. To enter it in Foreflight, it would be BEARZ GARIE KGYY. DYANN is an outer marker in South Carolina that shares the GY radio identifier. Probably where your Foreflight was trying to send you.
  12. When I was learning in a 172 the instructor would have me do full power stalls which resulted in a 30 degree nose up stall. Interesting to say the least and almost spun once. In the mooney, I let is slow down and then add power until it is dirty, slow, and hanging on the prop. It can then stall pretty easily without a lot of drama and simulates what is likely to happen in reality better than the 45 degree nose up full power accelerated stall.
  13. One the one occasion I was able to get a sharp break, the stall was straight ahead and the nose went to down 15 degrees as soon as I let off the back pressure. I would be more worried about the spin in a power on departure stall.
  14. Yeah they both have stall strips.
  15. How clean is the stall break in a 201? I had a 67 C model. Stalling it, clean and dirty, resulted in a pretty apparent break which could be followed by a secondary stall if I pulled back too quickly. With my 201, the break doesn't seem nearly as clean. Seems more like a Cherokee stall where I end up mushing along in a 500 fpm descent. I was able to get a sharp break but it involved slowing to the bottom of the arc and then a strong pull on the yoke to induce the stall. Is this typical of the 201? Thx Mark
  16. How difficult is replacing the tubing? Does the interior have to be removed?
  17. I'm in south Houston. Considering floats for the 201....
  18. Been having a really hard time keeping the cylinder 4 temperatures under 400 in normal cruise. I was changing the oil and looked at the baffle over the #4 cylinder in front of the oil cooler. I'm sure the baffle is original equipment but it covers most of the cylinder's cooling fins. Is this the stock part or is it too large? Mark Jackson N201TK - KAXH

  20. Typically the installations include wiring/trays/coonnectors/antennas/etc that aren't included. I recall one transponder installation where the IA found an entire altimeter lashed to the wiring behind the panel. While it's true that I could add everything up, I'd just like to get it weighed.
  21. The equipment list with the W&B doesn't match what is in the plane now and I removed a loran & broken alcor gauge. The discrepancies are very minor. My original concern was that if the W&B was correct, having anyone in the front seat would put me several inches forward of the CG limit. After fixing the math errors, two 200 lb front seats and full fuel is comfortably aft of the limit. Still want to have the plane weighed so I know, now it is just not as urgent as it was.
  22. I went through all the original docs this weekend and found two major math errors. The CG is now pretty much exactly where I expected it to be. I am still gonna have the plane weighed since it is unclear if the radios were updated since then.
  23. In this case it is more wanting to know. The last W&B was ~20 years ago. In theory there hasn't been any significant work done since then but I would be surprised if it hasn't changed. That and the egregious math errors in the last one.
  24. Yeah but the last person who did the W&B (in the 80's) in this one screwed it up so badly the Center of Gravity is like two feet in front of the prop. I resorted to using the factory W&B plus the various installed avionics, etc.
