  1. Official CONGRATULATIONS Fernando!! Great bird!! I too have flown with the previous owner of this M20E multiple times. It's a great E - Fast too for an E. Easy 150+ knots all day. The panel has been upgraded during the last few years of ownership and it's been often annulled by the local MSC. If I did not own my Missile, I would become Fernando's partner in a heartbeat - great person and the right attitude. If anyone is even thinking about a partnership or taking the jump into ownership in the greater Washington, DC region (MD, VA, heck even WV and PA), contact Fernando. How could you not partner on this airplane after looking at these pics!! Take care, -Seth
  2. Fernando - I could be wrong but I think one may have been replaced during the last few years - I may be mistaking that with another Mooney owner at GAI thought. -Seth
  3. Talk about a GREAT upgrade for the E, and F but woah the price! -Seth
  4. Mike- That is very cool. Glad you two had such a great trip!! -Seth
  5. I agree with you there. I'm hoping its the GFC 500 as well from a cost persepcitve. That being said, the GFC 600 is more robust, but I'm fine with the hardware in the G500.
  6. My only worry is where the Mooney will fit into Garmin's trajectory: GFC 500 STCed for 172, with 182, and PA-28 to follow soon. GFC 600 STCed for Bonanza A36 and Baron B55 with B58 to follow soon. Mooney M20C and M20E's sound like they'd be similar to the 500 Mooney M20M, M20R, M20S, M20TN, M20U, and M20V's sound like they may end up in the GFC 600 range which is 3X the price. I'm curious where the mid body would fit? Or will they consider a four place airplane GFC 500 territory even though the performance is better than certain 6 seat aircraft? No reason to waste any more brain function on this potential dilemma, as we'll find out when we find out - but it may change pricing and make me continue to repair or replace King Components, like roll servos (just had to purchase a replacement unit) as they are removed from aircraft moving up to the GFC 500. -Seth
  7. I've been thinking for two years of getting BKool or similar cooling device for summer flying - may have to pull the trigger in 2018 or 2019. -Seth
  8. Good job. Every landing is a go-around - if you land it's a nice surprise. If it doesn't feel right for whatever the reason, just go around - you are right, you probably could have salvaged it - and if you didn't, and bent some metal, you'd be kicking yourself. Good call in going around. Separately, isn't it AMAZING how hard you sweat and concentrate during IFR training? I used to be simply spent of energy by the end of those flights and drenched in sweat. Good training - as time goes on and you internalize it all, it becomes much more manageable - you get ahead of the airplane and the process. Take some time off and it's amazing how quickly your IFR skills diminish. -Seth
  9. That's Sounds like a great day of flying! -Seth
  10. Will that work with a 430W?
  11. The G5 as an HSI to also get GPSS is a huge idea. Didn't realize that before. It's $3k to get GPSS on it's own, this way you get to sell your HSI at peak value as a trade in to doing it at the same time. Also, should you install something else in the future, the G5 could be your glass backup Artificial Horizon. Like if you install a G3X. Can the G5 as an HSI in an emergency situation flip over to be an artificial horizion? Another reason to install it now. -Seth
  12. Alan- That's great news!!! I always admire that you fly the planes you do save a good 50 hours, many times more, to work out issues before prior to selling. Someome will a fixed up very low time M20J! -Seth
  13. Plus the trade or sale of servicible king servos from your aircraft. -Seth
  14. Any pricing on Garmin servos?
  15. Thank you for the information. I have a bad roll servo right now. This is tempting to think about and potentially wait on fixing. That said, I'll probably still fix or replace the bad king servo. -Seth
  16. Doesn't the G500 AP use the existing king servos? Again, I've done very little research - please educate me. -Seth
  17. I don't want the KI300. I just see problems with that down the road should king fold. It may be the only option unless the G500 STC ends up being not too expensive. Or I just overhaul the old technology in the future. I have not done my full research: which can the G5 if sending out the proper signals through a middle box to the AP not replace the KI256? -Seth
  18. i may have to consider a G5 when my KI256 needs an overhaul, and that will be in the next 24 months. -Seth Read below: Garmin announces third-party autopilot support for the G5 electronic flight instrumentTuesday, July 18, 2017 7:07 am CDTDateline:Olathe, KSEmailPDFPrintRSSGarmin is pleased to announce the G5 electronic flight instrument will soon be compatible with a wide-range of third-party autopilots available on the market. Utilizing the new GAD 29B adapter, the G5 directional gyro (DG)/horizontal situation indicator (HSI) can interface with a variety of autopilots to provide heading and course error to drive the autopilot. With a compatible navigation source, the G5 can also interface with select autopilots for coupled flight in heading and navigation modes. Additionally, when interfaced with a GTN 650/750 or GNS 430W/530W, the G5 can provide GPSS roll steering navigation from the navigator to the autopilot. Pilots can simply select GPSS on the G5 and heading mode on the autopilot and the autopilot will fly smooth intercepts, holding patterns, procedure turns and more.Third-party autopilot support is expected to include the following autopilots:Century II/IIICentury IV (AC), IV (DC)Century 21/31/41Century 2000Cessna 400BCessna 300 IFCS/400 IFCSHoneywell (Bendix King) KAP 100/150/200Honeywell (Bendix King) KFC 150/200Honeywell (Bendix King) KAP 140Honeywell (Bendix King) KFC 225S-TEC 20/30/40/50/55/60-1/60-2/65S-TEC 60 PSSS-TEC 55XGarmin expects to expand third-party autopilot compatibility for the G5 electronic flight instrument in the future. The GAD 29B is expected to be available in September. Additionally, Garmin is working on an amendment to the existing G5 supplemental type certification (STC) that allows certificated aircraft owners to mount the G5 electronic flight instrument flush with their aircraft instrument panel. Garmin expects the STC to be complete September and to encompass the same aircraft model list (AML) that contains over 650 aircraft. For additional information regarding the G5 electronic flight instrument, contact a Garmin authorized dealer or visit: www.garmin.com/aviation.
  19. MAPA announced at last year's homecoming the 2017 homecoming would be the first weekend in November. We planned the Mooney Summit V accordingly. Subsequently, as noted above, MAPA later changed it to the same dates we had contracted for the Mooney Summit V. Both are great organizations. The Mooeny factory does understand the importance and draw of the Mooney Summit and is sending representation this year even during the MAPA meeting. I have not yet attended a Kerville homecoming and plan to in a future year. I will be at Mooney Summit this year on Friday. -Seth
  20. I vouch for Fernando and the M20E. Very well maintained E by an owner who puts money in the panel. The aircraft is maintained by Freeway Aviation a very reputable MSC. Neat history on the previous owner as well - PM me. Its a fast E - minimal speed mods and 150 knots all day. If I did not have my Missile I'd partner with Fernando in a heartbeat - exactly the type of partner you want to share and aircraft with. Feel free to reach out to me - this is a GREAT opportunity. The aircraft will and is hangered. -Seth
  21. No - I had that clock in my former 1967 F model. This was a digital one I was replacing. -Seth
  22. My clock has been on it's last legs and I needed to replace it. I wanted to add USB power to the cockpit. I've been watching the MD93 for a good year. However I wasn't going to spend $650 on a clock. I did want to add USB power however, and a clock and USB ports for two separate installs? I can understand he $650 price tag. At Oshkosh 2017 Mid Continent was running a $50 cash rebate if you brought back a receipt showing you purchased an MD93. The five shops selling them were offering them in the $450 range. I got two shops in a bidding war and agreed to $385 - then I got my $50 rebate so $335 for the clock and USB in one - with only one install cost, and that was going to happen anyway with a clock swap. It was installed Friday so I should have a pirep for Mooney Space soon. My original clock from 1983 evidently had extreme internal corrosion according to my avionics guy. My guess on the price drop is the new USB 3.1 or a 2.4 amp system is in the works, but I'm still happy with the dual 2.1 charging ports. I also carry a USB rechargeable power pack on board - it's also how I charge my devices while at Oshkosh. -Seth
  23. There was actually the second Acclaim Ultra presented to the new owner at the lunch along with a good group of current Mooney owners. I had a chance to speak with the new owner. He also has a 182 on floats. Nice man. -Seth
  24. Remember the F wing in 1967 had the twisted / dropped leading edge. No wing tip modifications have been created or are available for the wing of a 67 F. -Seth
