KRDG (Reading, PA) Lunch Fly-in Sunday March 5th
Seth replied to Marauder's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Sorry I missed it! -Seth -
They are usually very responsive. I have gotten great service every time I've needed anything from them, even no parts, just information or reccomendarions. -Seth

It was a gag gift someone got for me at some point so I already had the red RBF flight warning on a key ring and popped it on. Not needed - looks a tad, only a tad more professional this way. -Seth
-
I do the same. It's a red bungee when a "remove before flight" red cloth keychain with white lettering hanging from it. Makes a difference in ailerons slamming back and forth in winds. Elevators technically not secured but they don't tend to be as suceptiple on the ground as the ailerons. Rudder is connected to nose gear thus it won't move unless the winds are really strong and can overpower the nose gear tire /ground friction. -Seth

Florida Trip For Work - Need info on TFR near PBI and LNA
Seth replied to Seth's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I do not plan to rent a car at LNA I'm planning to have family pick me up at LNA and drop me at my hotel. On Friday I'd Uber back. That takes care of $100+ rental and $100 of car parking at be hotel. Even if I just Uber back and forth I'm looking at maybe $35 total. -
Florida Trip For Work - Need info on TFR near PBI and LNA
Seth replied to Seth's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
That's the current one. A new one has popped up each of the last three weekends -
This is not a political thread - just need real advice on where to land and park my aircraft while staying in Palm Beach, FL. My entire trip is flexible and weather permitting. I know I've been MIA recently - working hard on a new business as well as balancing family time - MooneySpace falls behind that unfortunately On Sunday, March 12 I plan to fly from GAI (Maryland) to PDK (Atlanta) to visit a friend in the hospital and then continue on to Florida. I am looking to visit a few business associates in different areas of the state on Sunday evening and Monday. My main business destination however is West Palm Beach, FL, for a conference from the 14th to 17th. Both PBI - West Palm Beach International, and LNA - Lantana are the two airports I had narrowed down for my plans to use. I've used Lantana twice in the past. Once back in 2009 or 2010 and once in 2015. Cost and service wise I was planning to use them again. My plan was to arrive at LNA on Monday the 13th in the late afternoon. See a relative for dinner, and then head to the hotel. The conference breaks on Friday just after noon so I'd try to depart by 2:00PM ish. This issue, is the Trump TFR's that have taken place the last few weekends. I do not want to have an issue with arriving to early on Monday nor getting stuck on Friday. I can always use a gateway airport and land at PBI should I need to, or land LNA and re-position my aircraft to PBI during a conference break should a TFR be posted mid week so that I can depart PBI. I have had experience with this when departing from Martha's Vinyard during an Obama vacation. Called up, got my slot, went through security, inspected my own aircraft while being watched by security, and then departed just fine. I fly in the SFRA all the time near DC and am vetted for the DC3 in the FRZ. Busy controlled airspace and procedures do not worry me. Logistically, though I know President Trump can always change his normal routine and plan, but what has it been like, and what are my choices? I also could fly to another airport outside the 10 mile ring and rent a car. Thanks for your information and suggestions. Again, please keep this non-political. -Seth

He can. He loves the Husky and back country flying. There was an article with Lane Wallace years ago when she used to write for Flying where she flew with him to a grass strip and he nailed the landing. She though to herself how great a landing it was, and didn't say anything. He remarked later that evening that he's amazed after making maybe the best landing of his life that a fellow pilot couldn't even pipe up and say "good landing." That's not verbaim, but it was a good article. Mistakes happen. That being said, if he is starting to have issues, it brings up the question, when is it time to hang it up? Did he somehow think he was a helicopter as noted on the radio and line up for the "taxi way" hover? If that was the case, we have a real issue here. I'm young. 35. My wife is 36. She does not get to say when I stop flying. Until I pass the duties to my daughter (20 monhts) or my unborn son (due in April), my younger brother by 8 years, at 27 right now, is the one to let me know it may be time. I figure 83 is a lot older than 75 (from what I've seen my grandpartents, great grandparetns, and clients go through). I'll trust my younger brother to pull me aside when it's time more than my wife as she'll be a year older. He'll take more of a fair view. He knows this, she knows this. Talk about planning for 50 years from now . . . Until I heard it was the Husky I also thought maybe it's time to step down in complexity. Mabye sell the jet, or the Beaver, and go back to a simply fixed gear light, smaller, slower, single. But he was flying a Husky. Pilot's who are ready to hang it up start not flying if anything period seems out of place. There is one cloud in the sky. It'll be dark in 3 hours. The hanger door seemed to squak. I have to add oil, maybe next week. They look for reasons to not fly and then the plane sits there. That's when you know it's time - when you just don't go anymore for any reason. The problem is when you don't care and still go when you shouldn't. That's what will be determined with Mr. Ford. I hope it was a one time mistake and he passes his FAA checkride just fine. -Seth

Wake turbulence is a real threat. Glad you got the Acclaim up! I've only flown 4 hours this month so far (a BFR earlier in the month and a flight to and from a business meeting today). Good video I posted a while ago of an An-2 taking out a Robin in europe with Wake Turbulance. -Seth

I used to hand push my F into the hanger. My Missile has the heavier engine and up to 98 gal of fuel. Much harder to push though possible and not enjoyable. Tug better for pushing back into the the hanger. I hand tow it out. Very slight incline out of the hanger. -Seth

Glad pilot is safe. Curious to know what happened in detail once we find out. Gear up/Gear down depends on the situation. -Seth

When you get to Richmond let us know and we'll add you to the mid-Atlantic breakfast flight list.

You'll have to let us know what it's like to own. I'm looking at a well taken care of 414 with Ram engines on it now (and no, I'm not selling the Missile should I move forward). Iit would be a business venture for transportation for a local accounting firm I do a lot of business with but the principal hates driving four hours each way to VA beach every week. This could also lead to my use of the aircraft in few years a I grow my regional full wealth management / financial advising firm (building out to 150+ advisors under me). My partner has flown in the Missile but likes the idea of cabin class. And my wife told me the next airplane needs to be pressurized. So, this could be it. It would be owned by a separate entity. The Missile will be my just me transportation on shorter flights and backup, and also my "cub." My wife likes the idea of a my Missile over a 2 seater. I'll just have to add that as the third aircraft maybe at some point. -Seth

What twin did you get? -Seth

Happy new year! What were your total hours flown in 2016. Any special aviation milestones? A new rating? A transcontinental flight? A new to you aircraft? Avionics or air frame upgrade? Personal family events? Please share. Baby #2 is due in April and we learned it'll be a boy. So our daughter will have a baby brother and with two kids . . . I will fly less! I made it a point in 2016 to break 100 hours (first time since 2013 - Married 2014, Daughter 2015). I did so: 109.5 hours total in 2016. I should break 1200 hours this month. We are very fortunate to be able to fly. Here's to a great 2017! -Seth

Community Accountablity for My 2017 Aviation Objectives
Seth replied to astravierso's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I like this! Will PM you contact information should you ever have one of those I'm stuck somewhere and need some advice calls. Good luck. Get your IFR ticket - most important on the list. It will make you a better pilot in holding altitude/heading, radio communications, everything, etc. The commercial will come last as you have it in order. Schedule you IFR training and use MooneySpace for assistance. You can already fly for business instead of drive or take the airlines, just understand that with GA travel flexibility is key. If you have to be there, leave a day or two early, drive or take the airlines. A refundable fully refundable ticket on southwest is a GREAT way to use your airplane but then know you've got a real back up solution. GET-THERE-ITIS kills. Be wary of it as it'll suck you in. -Seth -
Correct!!! I called and asked if they wanted it back and they said no, so I asked around and one of the three mechanics on my field gladly took it. -Seth

Happy New Year! *CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER* The January 2017 Mooney Breakfast Flight will take place this Monday, January 2nd, back at Cambridge-Dorchester Regional Airport – KCGE. We’ll arrive at 9:30 and eat at Kay's at the airport. We have confirmed - they will be open. We had a good turnout here in 2016. Also, this is an abnormal day as its Monday. Much of the DC region is closed on January 2nd, and thus we decided to push the breakfast to Monday as the pilots RSVPed below available. We'll watch the weather for Monday. Fuel is $4.60 per gallon full service. The Monthly Mooney Breakfast Flights began with the Mooney Pilots at KGAI and has expanded to the entire Mid-Atlantic Region. Each month a location in the Mid-Atlantic region will be chosen and a date will be set for the breakfast. Breakfasts will typically be a 9:00 AM arrival (9:30 this time). I'll work to procure fuel discounts when possible. Posts to MooneySpace and the NJ Mooney Pilots Group will be made as soon as possible. Please do RSVP so I have an accurate count for Kay's at the airport!. See you Monday! -Seth RSVP (last updated 12/31/2016 @ 2:08 PM) : Tim's M20E (with Seth on Board) Alex's M20K (with Fernando on board) - Arriving later

George - I owe you a flight in the Missile! Would love a flight in the Eagle before it sells! -Seth
