  1. I didn’t change my senders. The gauges seem to be within about a gallon of actual. Lee
  2. I did the same thing when I needed one. Not difficult. Lee
  3. Perhaps an owner produced part is a better option. Lee
  4. Benjamin Franklin said “a man who has two watches will never know what time it is”. In my Mooney I have a G3x and a g5 backup. The av20 is the tie breaker. And, the av20 was originally installed in my Citabria, so it was a no cost addition to the Mooney. Lee
  5. I would add the Av20. You don’t need an oat probe when you use it as an AI. And, it can be used as a clock. also, who really needs a sweep second hand? I haven’t time an approach in years. 50 years ago just about all my approaches were NDB. Thank goodness, that’s gone. Lee
  6. Thanks for the referral to ACE Editor. It works great and is very easy to use. I built a checklist last night and loaded this morning. Lee
  7. I use a local trophy store for labels. I send them a PDF of what I want and they print it on aluminum, cut to size. I believe I pay about $5.00 per label. Lee
  8. Hickory NC (khky) has an on site restaurant and an aviation museum. Lee
  9. I’ve seen this happen to another Mooney before. The aluminum was torn when a mechanic was removing the front seats and the seat frame snagged the aluminum. I don’t remember how it was repaired. Lee
  10. I got lazy and never tried to find an equivalent LED. With my edm930, most of the annunciators are not needed. So I’m just going to remove the annunciator panel and install a few lights still needed. lee
  11. Bob bramble is excellent. Another source - if he is still around - is Tim Brouwer at mayday avionics. tbrouwer@maydayavionics.com. He repaired a similar unit for me on my previous Mooney. Lee
  12. Me too. And keep it lubed.lee
  13. ^This^. I scanned my wiring diagram and I am slowly updating the electrical diagrams and leaving the avionics to another schematic. Things like, instrument cluster, fuel flow, clock, standby vacuum, strobe power supplies, etc are being erased. Only Power and ground for avionics are shown on this diagram. Lee
  14. I live under the ATL class B airspace. I rarely get cleared thru IFR. Sometimes when I cancel IFR, they clear me thru. My house/runway is 25 miles due west of ATL. Lee
  15. Attached is a simplified diagram I drew several years ago when troubleshooting my gauges. Lee
  16. Yeah, I found flytheweather.com and is okay. Not as easy to use as noaa though. shutting down a valuable service so as to not offend anyone is stupid. lee
  17. I was looking for a skew t diagram for a flight yesterday and couldn’t reach http://rucsoundings.noaa.gov/. Is NOAA no longer publishing these charts? lee
  18. I’m contemplating removing my annunciator panel and replacing the needed indicators with MS25041 lights. Any recommendations or ‘gotacha’s’ are appreciated. Lee
  19. Should this be in the vendor forum? The OP started with an ad. Lee
  20. In my Citabria, I just mounted it directly to a wing rib. It is on the next to last outer most rib on the left wing. Works great. Lee
  21. I have a similar situation, I live in NW Georgia and have place in Atlantic Beach Fl, which is about a 6.5 hour drive. We make the 260nm trip in the Mooney (m20J) in about 1:45. We fly this trip about every 6 weeks. When the Mooney is home, my son uses it for business trips. It’s a great two person airplane. In my opinion, it’s not comfortable with all seats occupied. However, my son routinely takes his family of four (2 teenagers) in the Mooney. lee
  22. Actually the magnetometer is certified. I have one for my AV30C’s in the citabria. It still has to be reset occasionally, but it’s not unusual for the DG to go several days without needing to reset to the compass. The Av30 is a great device, and can be a good transitional unit. If you are not comfortable with it as your primary DG, you can always repurpose it as a backup AI. Lee
  23. Yes, I believe he said it’s in the experimental category. Lee
  24. I’ve always thought that a type rating was only required for airplanes over 12,500 lbs and jets. I hadn’t thought of 61.31(3) until my son said he had to get a type rating to fly a Pilatus PC-9, which has a 950 hp turbine engine. I asked several neighbors (airline pilots) and they all said a type rating is only required as per 61.31(1) and (2). They had never paid attention to (3) either. I learn something new everyday - and forget most of it! lee
  25. When is a type rating required? Think carefully before you answer. lee
