  1. All you guys need to come up and visit me at KPCW. Great diner, Ford Tri-motor, aviation museum. It's not far.
  2. This is the only question you raise that has any meaning with regards to safety. The FAA is currently working (with industry experts) on improving this. No pilot is infallible, regardless of ratings and experience
  3. Peter, Your posts in this thread are somewhat surprising. Did you personally know someone involved in this ACCIDENT?
  4. How old is the battery #1? Your description sounds like the battery is low on charge. Try charging it externally. IF it takes a full charge, I would test it for capacity per Concorde's document No 5-0171 revision P http://www.concordebattery.com/otherpdf/5-0171.pdf
  5. Hi,

I just got the info on the MAPA PPP in Mansfield. I see the first day is classroom work at the hotel.

Are you flying in, staying at the hotel? I will be going home each day.

What are your plans for ground transportation?

    Looking forward to meeting you,

    TomK

      Hi TomK,

I will be flying to MFD from Dayton early Friday morning. I plan on spending Friday night at the hotel and returning to Dayton after flying/ lectures on Saturday. I am going to arrange for a rental car through the FBO. I would be happy to give you a ride from the airport to hotel on Friday morning. My plan is to arrive MFD no later than 7:45a.

Looking forward to meeting you!  It should be a fun weekend!

      Patrick

  6. accident : a sudden event (such as a crash) that is not planned or intended and that causes damage or injury : an event that is not planned or intended : an event that occurs by chance We call them accidents for a reason. I don't know the pilot or his/her passengers. I do know for certain that when they got in the plane and departed on this flight they never intended for it to end the way it did. We can speculate all we want and disagree on our opinions and each one of us will say "I would never........." as I am sure this pilot did. We don't make mistakes on purpose. The major difference between the professional pilot and GA pilots is training. More and frequent training is the key.
  7. I signed up to attend the training in Mansfield, Ohio October 7, 8, and 9. Any one here going?
  8. pre-requisites?
  9. and I wonder what happened to this one? .............................. M20T
  10. and don't forget this one ............... M22
  11. It is a little overwhelming in the picture Not nearly as large looking in a full view of the windshield.

  13. Future FIS-B Products AC 00-63A notes that FAA plans to add five new FIS-B products “in the next few years.” These products include: Lightning. Graphical representation of each lightning stroke in a past 5-minute period. Turbulence NOWcast. Two-kilometer resolution grid containing an eight-value turbulence intensity scale in each grid cell. The intensity scale depicts a weighted average turbulence for flight levels (FL) of 10,000 ft and above. Icing NOWcast. Two-kilometer resolution grids, where each grid represents one of the eight 3,000 ft ranges from FL 030 to FL 240. Within each grid, each grid cell contains the four-value icing indication and the presence or absence of Supercooled Large Drop (SLD) formation. Cloud Tops. Two-kilometer resolution grid indicating the altitude of the cloud top to an accuracy of 3,000 ft, ranging from FL 030 to FL 480. One-Minute Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS). More frequent updates of METAR-formatted information.
  14. Since neither XM nor ADS-B weather are intended to substitute for pre-flight planning, those features are known to me before leaving the ground. Having the NEXRAD picture available in the cockpit is certainly helpful in confirming the pre-flight information remains valid. I find the factual information such as METARs from en-route and destination airports to be far more valuable a weather tool in addition to the stormscope. The FAA will add some features soon to the ADS-B product, the most significant in my mind is the one-minute METAR updates.
  15. ADS-B is more than adequate. If the weather is so bad that I need the nuance between XM and ADS-B, I am on the ground.
  16. Infant mortality is primary failure your story goes a long way in validating "if it ain't broke don't fix it"
  17. IF it does then OUR NTSB is not as professional as it claims. The comments I saw all came from "past" or "retired" NTSB employee. Of course in today's age he could be willing surrogate for sending a message the NTSB wants made public. In the long run, this will not change a thing.
  18. for anyone that really wants to "get into the details" ...... this is an excellent source with many facts and simulations http://www.exosphere3d.com/pubwww/pages/project_gallery/cactus_1549_hudson_river.html One thing the analysis did not look deeply into is the possibility of seeing and avoiding such a large flock of geese. They were actually shown as targets on radar.
  19. I do it all the time. I just went KPCW YQG KAPN You will probably be with Cleveland Center the whole time (depending on altitude) You may want to carry your passports just in case you have an unplanned stop. You do need to be on a flight plan, have a squawk code and talking with ATC when you cross the border.
  20. the proper part # is 820338-501 it is a bracket mount for the diode. I think it is part of the heater control curcuit
  21. Exactly..........and an improper use of the equation. Put the lift question another way.......... If Bernoulli produces lift then an airplane should continue to rise when the AoA is zero. Can anyone point to an example where that is true?
  22. Cl = 2 * pi * a the coefficient of lift is equal to 2 x pi x AoA I don't see anything in the equation about Bernoulli......... see Shadrack's comment above ^
  23. It seems to me that it is ALWAYS a buyers market in that the buyer is the one that agrees to a price. The seller can ask for anything but he will only get what a buyer is willing to pay.
  24. the best way to approach this engine is to consider it as fully used (run out) and in need of an overhaul. Price the plane accordingly. If you get a year or two from the engine it is a bonus, if not, you have that built into the purchase price.
