1. 1) Maybe that is not the actual cost of the additive. So it doesn't cost that much to include it. 2) As someone mentioned, since the additive is mandatory for some engines, there is a built in market even if the oil is slightly more expensive. And some who don't have to use it, like the idea of having it, just in case. 3) The company decided that people would not pay extra for the better additive package. And yes, sometimes the logic does not track. Like in the 60s, the car companies not adding a safety feature, as it would cost 50 cents per car, which would be MILLIONS per year.
2. Does the King KAP-150 with KAS-297B need the analog altimeter? From some other discussions, I think it might? Trying to get room to replace JPI 700 with 830. Any clever ideas?
3. Aircraft Spruce carries a Tempest Oil Filter Media cutter https://www.aircraftspruce.com/pages/fb/maintenance_oilfiltercutters/tempestOilCutter.php
4. Except in the case of CamGuard. It was developed in a major oil company, to be the best additive package for an aviation oil. they decided it was too expensive. So the guy who developed it, went out and packaged it and sold it.
5. I agree. Maybe they can get one approved under NORSEE. What I have done with mine is put in on the glare shield to the left of the hump. A couple of Velcro strips works fine. I run the supply hose up and wrap a turn around the hand mike (I knew it was good for something). With the built in O2 system, you need to get the setup with a regulator. They sell a kit with the O2D2 and the regulator, plus a couple of cannulas (they use a different one) and a couple of masks.
6. When we had two move in, we had LOTS of mice. We only knew they were there because they were using the wiring coming out of the break panel to help shed. We knew there were two since there were two different length skins. They were shedding about once a week. VERY well fed. We only saw them a couple of times. By the time they left, the larger one around 7+ feet.
7. From what I remember, they came out and specifically stated NO benefits and possible bad things from adding it to oil.
8. I was able to get door keys for my 252 from a Minute Key, automated kiosk at my local Walmart. Home Depot was unable to cut either door or ignition key. FBO sent me to a local locksmith. They were able to do both. Strangely, both keys were Y11 blanks. Not sure why the Minute Key IDed and cut one, but not the other.
9. I don't mind snakes. And they are less annoying that mice. Mice destroy things.
10. Same and same.
11. And other people have done the same thing without STP. Just because you do X and Y happens does not mean that X causes Y. Y could occur without X. A one of the founders of an early oil analysis lab called all aftermarket oil additives BSIAB. BSIAB = B*** S*** in a Bottle. The one exception seems to be CamGuard. One place that STP works well is mixed 50/50 with oil as an assembly lube.
12. Well maybe because you in wrong group of 2 wheelers. Maybe if you talked sport bikes or cafe racers.
13. Yea, a bit pretentious. I like the fractional notation. I have the Monroy tanks, so any gallons or pounds will be off. My electronic gauges have 18 and 27 gallon marks. When it reads 27 gallons, there is actually 31 gallons. Eventually, I plan on putting in Garmin EIS and CIES senders.
14. Capture one and move it.
15. You could come up with a calibration chart for in flight. Fill to the a bit over a mark (3/4 or 1/2, 0r some gallon mark), then in flight, fly off that tank until it reads 1/2 or 3/4. Change tanks. Check and note the electric fuel gauge. Land and see with the in wing reads. My 252 reads in 1/4 tanks, not gallons.
16. The problem is, if there are snakes, there is food. So probably a LOT of mice. We had mice problems, but then a couple of black snakes moved in, and grew quite nicely, but no more mouse problems.
17. That is why there are Near Zero and Zero Emissions vehicles. They pollute near or less than electric, when you take into account the generation, transmission, and distribution efficiencies.
18. What they can do is to estimate the excess radiation exposure based on time in the air. This would mainly apply to flight crew. And there have been some studies about flight crew exposure, but I don't recall the results.
19. But what is the efficiency in making that electricity? You need to look at fuel to useable power.
20. Edited, they are at over 50% now.
21. If this had been for sale about 2 months ago, it would have bene sold immediately. TO ME.
22. I remember reading that F1 engines were around 85% efficient in converting fuel to usable power. That is pretty darn good. EDIT ------------ They are currently over 50% efficiency. This as of 2021. In 2014 they were at 44%.
23. Not a type rating, an authorization.
Vintage & Experimental Aircraft Program This program standardizes pilot certification in the following U.S. aircraft: Vintage Type Certificated aircraft which require a type rating Experimental turbine-powered aircraft Experimental aircraft with a maximum gross weight in excess of 12,500 pounds, or Experimental piston powered aircraft with an engine over 800 HP and a Vne (never exceed speed) greater than 250 knots
You were not type rated in the helicopter, since Military does not come under the FARs. Many of the Military regulations are the same as FARs (cloud clearance, controlled airspace, etc).
24. I remember reading that all you needed was a data plate and main gear legs and you could have a P-51 built.
25. I can drop all sorts of other things. I mentioned those things to give people an idea of where I was coming from.
