  1. My KAP-150 will occasionally start a pitch oscillation, I found that tapping the CWS button stops it. Sometimes I have to do this twice.
  2. Maxwell has Tamara to deal with parts orders. Nice lady. I hear the Dugosh is another good one for parts, and they can walk across the ramp and get the part if the factory has it in stock.
  3. That is what I do. I dial in the same VOR on both, and put them on the Aspen as the two pointers. They I write the error on my flight log sheet on my knee board.
  4. Batteries are a tiny part of Garmin's business. Batteries were a lost leader for Radio Shack. Come in for cheap batteries, buy other stuff. IMO, Garmin would be better specifying a standard battery and let the shops get them on the open market.
  5. There is no reason that a GPS/VOR unit manufacturer could not build in automatic testing. Compare the VOR radial to the GPS location. No difference than using an airborne checkpoint. And the GPS could even tune a nearby VOR if the current frequency is out of range of any VOR. I just set NAV 1 and 2 to the same VOR and check that the pointers are aligned. I do it almost every flight.
  6. OP stated the chrome and nickel are high in oil analysis, but staying steady. Leaning more to run them and monitor. Since they are not chromed bore, they can be overhauled.
  7. Maryland is known for taxes, but a few years ago dropped even the use/sales tax on buying an airplane/
  8. I wonder if you could use a thermoelectric cooler to "recharge" the unit in flight.
  9. I don't think many places rent out seaplane. But I would just start calling the seaplane training places. One day I need to get my CSES, I did my PSES in Maine a long time ago.
  10. Hmm, the worked so poorly that they are still used for backup on modern submarines. From 1938 to still being made today.
  11. Take a close look sitting in your plane. In my 252, my body is not centered on the center of the yoke. The yoke is to the left of my midline. So, for me, the PFD would be to the right of the yoke tube.
  12. Going with the minimum weight for tail hold down is probably not the way to go.
  13. With my 252, I climb with everything fully forward and cowl flap fully open. I also climb at about 125 KIAS. CHTs are nice and cool in the lower 300s. At level off, I leave the power up to accelerate. Pull the throttle and prop back, do a Big Mixture Pull to LOP and fine tune. Then close the cowl flap. Most times the highests CHTs run around 360 -370. My goal is below 380. If one goes over 380, I crack open the cowl flap or maybe tweak the mixture a 1/10 GPH leaner. If I open the cowl flap, after the temp goes down, I try closing it again. Sometimes I can, sometimes not. I need to see what cowl flap setting is about 1" open. According to Bob Kormer, that is the best cruise setting for low drag on K or earlier models.
  14. The ice coolers will not cool the entire cockpit, but a nice stream of moving cooler air does a lot for comfort.
  15. WOW, that knocks out Georgia as a possible long term retirement destination. Paying 2% of the value of the airplane per year is nuts.
  16. It seems like the best move would be to order cylinders, but keep flying. With some luck, you won't need the cylinders until after they are delivered. AFAIK you cannot rebuild chromed cylinders.
  17. I have a B-Kool, but have not yet used it. I find keeping the door open a bit until run up works like a scoop. I may pick up a vent window scoop, but modify it to remove the hinge, and just place it in the vent window as needed.
  18. No, but a used 430W is selling for over $6000 on eBay today. So it may well be that the shops would do the labor for keeping the 430Ws. If the supplied the 650Xi and 355, I would wonder. The 650Xi lists for $13595.
  19. They will also supply the unit with a longer hose, so you don't pump out the water right where you will stand/board.
  20. What is your useful load? When I saw shopping, looked Bravos, but ended up with a 252/Encore. 175 KTAS on 10.1 GPH, and 1100 pound useful load.
  21. Theilerts have been superceded by the Austro. Which is also a modified MB auto engine. Theilert filed for insolvency in 2008.
  22. Garmin part number costs $34.
  23. THIS is the best advice.
  24. Tempting, but it would be fly in early, fly out after the show for me Where would one fly into? What transport from landing airport to/from show?
  25. Wiki says 5 prototype (one crashed, one static test) were made by Hi-Shear. Under Wing there was one pre-production and 6 production planes.
