  1. You just need to figure out a mission with the new job to justify keeping it.
  2. Any updates? @DanM20C
  3. Did the "overhaul" for mine. Yes, they overhauled it by taking all new parts and putting them together.
  4. Roy was known for aerodynamic clean up. He turned the Grumman Traveler into the Cheetah and Tiger. And the Tiger, fixed gear, fixed pitch prop, 180 HP, was as fast or faster than the 200 HP retract airplanes of the time.
  5. They have to MAKE the parts and have them available. Requests for parts from other suppliers (not just parts that the specific supplier makes) means people cannot get them from the factory. Frank Crawford told me at Mooney Max that Eaton requires an order for 50 NBS to make them. I had heard that a batch recently were not made properly. You put down a deposit without a delivery date. If the factory said, we are taking pre-orders with a lead time of 6 months, I think that at least 50 owners would do so.
  6. Again, the info that the airplane is faster with the cowl flaps rigged to 1 inch open comes from a Mooney FACTORY TEST PILOT. And based on TESTING. Think what you want, but this is NOT a bunch of uninformed internet hype. Another thing that was mentioned was waxing your wing back to the main spar, top and bottom. Again FACTORY TESTING. Past the rear spar, waxing does not help speed, but it does protect the paint.
  7. Really? How many people do you know that drink a sport's drink (Gatorade, Power Aid, etc) for hydration? If you or they do, they really don't know about hydration. My profession for about 40 years has been occupational health and safety. And heat stress is an area of personal concern. Early in my career I was on projects where heat related illnesses were an issue, so I have made it an area of concern.
  8. As I have said, you get acclimated. One way to test your acclimation is to lick your lips as you sweat. If your sweat tastes salty, you are not acclimated. One of the changes your body makes is to reduce the salt going out in your sweat. This also means you don't need to up your salt intake. Also, avoid sport's drinks. They are designed for playing sports, not normal work or play. They are VERY high in electrolytes and also sugar. I prefer a product called Sqwincher. They have QuikSticks, where are single serving packets that you dump into a bottle of water. A lot less sodium, but higher potassium and NO sugar. One per about 4 hours in the heat are enough. When I was actively car racing, we dropped 9 flaggers in one season due to heat related issues. I did a session on heat stress for the flaggers and as of 10 years later, there had been ZERO heat related issues. Interesting thing, 8 of the 9 that had issues, went down within 45 minutes of drinking a sports drink. If you do want to drink sport's drinks, drink a cup or so, then drink 4 - 5 cups of water, then another cup of sport's drink.
  9. Then those are poor contracts. The contract should be written to protect the buyer from the seller not acting properly. And at the same time, protecting the seller if the buyer does not act properly. And that is what the deposit it for. To protect the seller and cover any costs, including the cost of turning down other offers during the period of the PPI and such. Yes, if the buyer backs out for a reason allowed in the contract, the seller keeps the deposit. Actually, the buyer is the one who has little protection, as the best that can happen, without going to court, is that they get their deposit back.
  10. Money is a contract.
  11. That is what the deposit is for. Buyer places the money in escrow with a company. Once the PPI is done and everyone is happy, the deposit adds to the payment. If not, the deposit goes to the seller or buyer depending on why the deal fell through.
  12. @AH-1 Cobra Pilot is working on getting them into production. The early test ones he sent me fit fine.
  13. And he had the flight test data to prove that.
  14. I didn't realize it was that far, but still fairly close. You would not fly that short a flight.
  15. Not sure about the first. Which is why I do a dump every 6 months. No sync required to do a dump.
  16. You have to sign up for the tour of the restoration hangars. If you can't get a reservation, you can show up and get in the standby line. Last time I went with some friends, we did the standby and they took something like 15 standbys. If you haven't been for a while, the museum has grown. It is up too 4 of the buildings, so it takes a while to get through. If you are into amusement and water parks, King's Island is also in Dayton. Both the dry and wet parks are quite nice.
  17. Hmm, I remember the days when TAC manual had a minimum speed of 350 KIAS for the AT-38B. Or even better, running VR or IR routes with NO speed limit. Just did Denver (KBJC) to NE MD (0W3) non-stop in 7 hours. Commercial would have been around 6.5 hours from arriving at airport to being at home (home is 7 minutes from my hangar).
  18. The data is ON my devices. Yes, if I sync to bad data, it will be a problem. But that would be on the first device I synced. Then I would not sync that other devices and generate PDF and CSV files first. And I do generate PDF and CSV files every 6 months. And I keep a paper logbook. Yes, I have been literally burned. My tehn current logbook was destroyed in 2001. Many years later, I realized that I had not updated around 2 years of flying into my electronic logbook (AeroLog Pro). I was able to recreate some flying (trips to Oshkosh and Sun n Fun), but lost a lot of short flights. Now, it goes into my electronic one right away, then every so often I put them in my paper logbook.
  19. Last number I saw published was that they were working on getting to DOWN to $36,000 per hour. FYI, the A-10 is around $6000 per hour.
  20. Are you sure about that? I can only find the EASA approval and it says Max Continuous of 210 HP.
  21. And how are they hydrating? And are they hydrating enough? In hot times, it make take quite a bit of water to make up for losses. As in gallons of water per day But yes, those with other issues are at greater risk.
  22. My Mother used to say, all things happen for a reason. As mentioned, I went through several candidates, including the one that required the PPI be done in their hangar. But eventually, everything came together, and I got a better airplane than the ones that fell through.
  23. FYI, I just replaced mine, and while they come from GLAP, they quoted a 4+ week lead time. Knots2U had them in stock for the same price. For my M20 K 252, they were $373 each a few months ago.
  24. Yes, I am at the mer4cy of their cloud. But I also have up to date copies on my phone, two tablets, two desktops, and one laptop. And yes, you can export to CSV or even a PDF that looks like a paper logbook. So I do that every so often.
