  1. As many as you can get. Most of the pulse systems allow you to run some/all of the lights as constantly on. So you can still have landing/taxi light.
  2. I remember some posts on this, but it is not possible to make it meet the ASTM standard. If it was, then PAFI or Eagle would have pounced on it. They were/are constrained to meet the ASTM standard.
  3. No. But if it met the ASTM standard, it would not require an STC, as it would be an aviation fuel.
  4. For recog lights, the question is, wig wag between the two, or both recog wig wagged with an landing/taxi (cowl mounted)? I am sure that there has been research done on this.
  5. Yes, but the appropriate one for AVGAS is D910. Which does reference a number of other ASTM standards.
  6. The reason that they did not do ASTM certification is that the fuel does not meet the ASTM standard. The Eagle and PAFI programs have been trying to make a fuel that does meet the ASTM standard, and see how that has worked out. And there are some major fuel players trying. GAMI saw a different path, and decided to follow it. Thinking out of the box. There is the possibility that the ASTM standard could be changed a bit to cover G100UL, so that is another path. But consensus standards are a huge can of worms.
  7. I would think Red for critical things, like trim and AP. Yellow for load shedding.
  8. I called JPI a couple of times. Once pre-sale and once after install. Both times they answered the phone and were very helpful.
  9. He is claiming that people were saying he should be banned or censored. I did not say that. I did point out that if someone did not want to listen to him, they could put him on ignore. Some people are so entrenched in their beliefs, that the do not argue or have a meaningful conversation, but just want to shout their beliefs. And others find this tiresome and don't want to hear it. And it is interesting, the number of people that feel that GAMI should spend over a decade of effort and untold amounts of their own money, then give away the product. And those that are claiming that G100UL will cause the banning of 100LL, when that was already in progress. CA has had the legislation in the process for over a year. And a number of states will do whatever CA does when it comes to environmental activism.
  10. Exactly And while I am sure that George wants to make money, he is also, bottom line, a GA pilot. He has taken his skills and love of aviation to bring several products to market. Including G100UL.
  11. Or maybe they just don't to spend time with certain individuals drivel. On some forums there are people I put on my ignore list, even though I agree with some things they say. I just don't want to deal with the way they say it. I never stated that you should be banned or censored. Just that is someone doesn't want to listen to you, it is their right to put you on their ignore list. And think that you are a bit thin skinned that you think everyone should listen to your opinions, and get upset that someone might ignore you.
  12. He is not stopping you from speaking. He is offering a way to NOT listen to you. Also, the 1st amendment applies to the GOVERNMENT from preventing you from expressing your views, not individuals or businesses. See Twitter and Face Book. Do what you wish. If you don't need the STC, then don't buy it. But CA was already in the process of banning 100LL. If not state wide, then country/jurisdiction at a time. Two airports have already had it banned. BEFORE G100UL was approved.
  13. FYI, this was just posted at BT about the issue with the STC tied to the engine serial number and if you are looking at a new/reman soon-- "As an incentive to adopt the STC before fuel is available, we'd like to offer free replacement engine STCs to the original purchaser for a period of 10 years. That offer is currently set to expire 1 June 2023. John-Paul"
  14. Since CA is talking about a state wide ban, he would have to fly to another state for fuel.
  15. Nope. Only Normal procedure that uses the boost pump is switching tanks. Several emergency procedures call for High Boost Pump and a few that use Low Boost Pump.
  16. My airplane got a factory reman in 2019, and flew about 200 hours from then to summer 2022. Most of the lifters were pitted. Luckily on the Contentinenals, you can pull the lifters without putting the cylinders or splitting the case. Seller paid for a new set of lifters.
  17. It would be a wonder off road (track) fuel. Currently the common unleaded is 98 AKI, so about 93 MON, or about 94UP level. I can definitely see a market for a track fuel. And last time I checked the 98 AKI pump at the track, it was about $8 per gallon. For road fuel, the issue is if an oxygenate is required in your locality. If so, they would have blend the (G)100UL with ethanol to meet those requirements. But that doesn't sound like a huge issue. Although, IIRC, G100UL is actually 98 or 99 aviation lean grade, but over 145 for the rich rating. The big warbird guys are really looking forward to this fuel.
  18. No and no. They state they think they will have it this year. But even if approved, it will take time to roll it out. I am considering buying their forever STC. It is only $100, and with the two, I am covering the foreseeable fuels. I wonder if we can get approval for an alternate fuel tank label listing all three (once Swift is approved).
  19. A number of Mooney Flyer issues have a link the GMax/Jimmy Garrison Mooney valuation calculator. If you are an AOPA member, you have access to Vref for a value guide. To me, look around for advertised prices of aircraft. They will vary based on condition, avionics, and time (total, SMOH, etc), but you can start getting an idea of what the market is at. As mentioned, if you have time, you can see which ones sell and which ones do not. Even in the market last spring/summer, I did not hear of any bidding above asking price. Based on my interactions, they seem to have been selling at asking price (if reasonable) or just a bit of a discount. Once you are ready to buy, I suggest getting everything in place. If you are financing, have that approved to what you are willing to borrow, even if that is over what you would like. You may need to go a bit higher to buy the plane you really want. I would even get a reasonable deposit in the hands of an escrow service to be ready to get a deposit down immediately. I got my plane at a slight discount, even through they had a full price offer a day later, but I was ready NOW. It was less than 10 days from offer to closing, including the prebuy and a 3 day weekend. And when you find the plane that grabs you, and you start thinking that that is YOUR plane, then make an offer.
  20. Interesting information. 1) The Continental Operators Manual for the TSIO -360-MB and -SM: There is no mention of priming for starting. Does not mention leaning for ground operators. Recommends climbing at 165 HP (about 75% power). And for shutdown, very interesting procedure. Shown below. Notice, they state you should do another mag check, at 1700 RPM, then immediately shut the engine down. However the POH ) excerpt below) states to operate at idle (below 1200 RPM) for 5 minutes "to allow the TURBOCHARGER TO COOL." It then states that "taxi time after (emphasis mine) landing" maybe part of that 5 minutes. So I am going to stick with my, not over 1200, not to worry, if over 1200 in taxi, give it a 1 - 2 additional minutes.
  21. Excitement that there is a path forward as leaded fuels get banned on the local and state level. Excitement that there is a fuel that can be supplied by just about any refinery without special handling, special trucks. Yes, the fuel might be a $1 a gallon more, but the real issue is when there is NO 100LL. Then it is not $1 more, it is the price for fuel. Also, for a fuel that will increase the oil change interval (Lycoming already has an SB for longer time between oil changes with UL fuel). Will increase the life of plugs. Decrease lead based valve sticking. Possibly allowing full synthetic oils which will increase efficiency (lower friction), further increase the oil change interval, and lead to longer engine life. I have followed this since before it started in the old days on AVSIG. And support for a small company that went outside the box to get a viable unleaded fuel when the big boys and the FAA could not, and even actively blocked them.
  22. It turns out, we were the first two non-beta tester sales.
  23. Swift 94UL is basically 100LL without the lead. Not sure what the formula for there 100UL is. And not sure that G100UL could not be made from "sustainable" sources. It is basic hydro carbons.
  24. I wonder why and how they made the decision to do it the way they do? And I wonder if there is not a product that could be applied to an assembled wing, after stripping, that would wick into the joint to provide a better seal?
  25. And a properly crimped connector provides a more reliable connection. When properly crimped, the two parts actually fuse. I had a GREAT talk with an RF connector engineer for a major connector company (Amphenol) on a flight one time.
