  1. The one thing that concerns me is how long you'll be able to continue to update the data cards. I corrupted a couple of cards and spent hours on the phone with Garmin after trying to use an Apple (which they said was compatible). I later learned that the Apple OS was feeding the card something it didn't like. Might need to hang on to an old Windows computer to successfully update the cards down the road. I'm "scared" every time I update a card now.
  2. That’s pretty much what I did; although I did lubricate it to clean it and then wiped if off. Works fine now.
  3. I have one extra spare seal or “boot” that was repaired with a rubber patch. I wouldn’t mind having another new spare.
  4. Same here. I had my GNS430 (non WAAS) overhauled by Garmin a few years ago while they still had displays. It's in great shape. If it were to die now, I'd likely go with an Avidyne IFD too. I might spend $2K for a good 430W replacement but that's about it. A commercial pilot might pay more to have one right now. Don't know.
  5. 6’1.5” 215 lbs. No problem with my F. Once your in the seat it’s comfortable. Plenty of leg room.
  6. The 235 or Dakota has always been my favorite Cherokee variant. Used to fly one. Great plane. If your looking to get up and go somewhere though, the Mooney is hard to beat and it’s a lot of fun to fly. You’ve just gotta put the gear down when the time comes. For 20 years I’ve looked at alternatives and always come back to my Mooney.
  7. If it’s on jacks, a good time to check the airspeed safety switch too and see if the gear comes up at about the expected airspeed? Another potential data point if I’m recalling the procedure correctly.
  8. I’ve read the whole thread several times. Totally shooting from the hip wild ass thought. Is it remotely possible it has the wrong prop?
  9. I just pinged them a couple of days ago. She said they were coming soon. They don't have my F duct yet.
  10. With the windshield and cowl, my '67F cruises consistently around 153 kts at 8500-9500. That's a good looking F. Good luck finding the issue.
  11. Kevin Westbrook is always the go to guy for Brittain info. Pretty sure he can overhaul those at Porter Strait in Tulsa.
  12. Mine was checked when a new spinner backplate was installed. It was within spec. First time I’ve had ever had it checked.
  13. For what it’s worth, my engine shop said they kept those parts purchase and receipt records for five years. You might be one of the lucky ones.
  14. I know. I know. I could buy a C8 Corvette for the price difference and be even happier.
  15. I've been needing someone to talk me in to keeping my F instead of upgrading to a J. But now I have to spend more money on it. ;>
  16. For my F, I paid $723 for the mixture cable last Dec with 3.7 hours labor to install. Although expensive, for a specialized part made in the US in limited quantities, it seemed reasonable to me. Guessing they sell if for twice the cost it takes to make it.
  17. If it's in really good shape, the U shaped sheet metal piece that bridges the gap between the lower fuselage and tail?
  18. Flap / Trim Indicator Plate ?
  19. For the folks that have experienced many aircraft, what's the best documentation package you've seen for AD compliance? What format? With older aircraft, there's tons of history and a file drawer of documentation. How do you round all of that up into a nice tidy one stop AD package? How hard is it to start from scratch and review the aircraft and engines entire AD history or do most mechanics just focus on new ADs subsequent to the last annual?
  20. Don't disagree at all. I'm just curious now and I like data. This issue is a bit of a science project.
  21. Yep. Again, I'm no expert, but if I see bronze / copper / tin show up in an oil analysis, I'll probably watch it closely over time. If I see any bronze particles, chips, or chunks of any significance, I'll probably inspect / press test / and if necessary replace the bushings. But again, I'm no expert and I'll listen to the experts.

  23. Mine was clear and I’m not sure where I bought it. Will have to drag out the files.
  24. Any idea if there are any other bronze wear items other than the small end rod bushings?
  25. The Piper latch I used was actually a little bigger overall; thicker and wider anyway. Feels more durable.
