  1. What an AWESOME ride! Enjoy! Good talking with you in the phone about the Ovation. The only thing you’ll miss will be the TKS. Boots take a back seat on that bus! Glad you found a replacement!
  2. I don't only go to places with instrument approaches but if there is one there I use it. Every airline I have flown for has the requirement in the ops specs that the approach to be cued up. What can go wrong... At night... black hole approach. Might as well be in IMC as there is no horizon, depth perception is zero and ability to judge altitude is nil. Add terrain between you and the airport and thats a recipe that can bite you in the @ss. UPS crash Birmingham. Yes they had the approach cues up but were proceeding visually. Ignored approach guidance. During the day... in congested areas you can land at the wrong airport. That’s been done plenty. The approach can confirm your lined up on the right runway if there are parallel runways. Unfamiliar airport... go during the day. Unfamiliar airport at night with no approach. Skip it. Revert to above. Go somewhere else. I was landing PBG the other night. It’s in the middle of nowhere. It was a black hole approach. Backed it up with the RNAV GPS RNWY 17.
  3. Both of the runways @ BGF have RNAV/GPS approaches. One with LPV minimums. The other an LNAV approach. They should be utilized day/night IMC/VMC if the plane/pilot have the capability. I always cue up the approach to the runway I’m using. ALWAYS.
  4. Agreed.... after landing checklist ELEVATOR TRIM - SET FOR TO.
  5. I love my inflatable door seal! Big difference when its pumped up and when its not.
  6. If you find that magic phone number pass it along. It would certainly be appreciated!
  7. Package of medical records sent overnight to OK City! Now I wait!
  8. Just saying.... someone could build something with 2 more seats. Crazy speed, low fuel burn, carbon fiber and two more seats for you!
  9. Do away with FAA Part 23 certification and you get planes that look like this. Blackshape Gabriel. 164 kts with a 160hp IO320. $280K base price.
  10. That was by far the worst aircraft paint job I have ever seen by a long shot! Wow!
  11. Aviation got a lot of it’s rules and traditions from maritime law and tradition... so why not name a plane!
  12. FedEx will retire the last MD10 in 2023. Don’t know how long the MD11 has at UPS but they just acquired 5 more that will be online in a few months. Lufthansa is done with the MD11 this year. Look to the cargo haulers in the future for the 3 and 4 hole haulers.
  13. That’s about one plane a day for the last 22 years! Very impressive! I just don’t get the hype around Cirrus. I think they have the right idea making limited edition models even though they are composed of upgraded interiors and paint. Same marketing plan as Porsche for the 911. Special editions. People love to have unique things and they sell.
  14. Wow... great bunch of guys here! ❤️ As always! My worry is that the G6 data is tainted with compression low reading. If you sleep on the sensor and put pressure on the area it doesn’t get fresh bodily fluid and the CGM reading goes low when your blood sugar is actually in range. There is nothing that can be done about that. Terry.... I’ll post on this thread any updates as they come my way. Are you going to submit again? Dr. Breda... I’m getting very little input from my AME on the data/test results the FAA is requesting. I don’t think he has gone down this T1 diabetics SI path before. Could I submit my medical records to you for an evaluation before I submit? I have them all in digital format. I could also link you up to my Dexcom Clarity portal. Of course I’d be a paying customer.
  15. Where you going to base the new plane?
  16. Carusoam.... not looking forward to waiting. With Covid the wait has been around 8mo from submission of requested records. But if that’s what it takes to get back into airline flying then so be it. Yes... I have a Dexcom G6 CGM. I bought an Apple Watch and my BS is displayed on my watch face. Amazing times we live in! Without a CGM a class 1 wouldn’t be an option. I’m upset the FAA has waited so long to enact this protocol. Canada has allowed insulin dependent pilots to fly 121 since 2003. The 1st class they issue me will only be good for 3mo. Then I need an exam from my endocrinologist with blood work to extend another 3mo. RL.... the FAA has allowed insulin dependent diabetics to hold 3rd class medical since 1996. If your buddy needs any info I’d be glad to help. Since I’ll be one of the first there was no one to help me along. It would have been nice to have someone guide me. I’m 50 now. Hopefully covid ends soon and someone will be hiring and I get a good 10 years to fly the line somewhere.
  17. I’m an insulin dependent diabetic and trying to get my 1st class medical back under the FAA’s new special issuance guidelines. The FAA has been accepting special issuance medical applications for insulin dependent diabetics since Jan 2020. I hear only 6 airline pilots have received a special issuance 1st class for insulin dependent diabetes. I’m ready to submit my paperwork this coming Fri. Was cleared by my endocrinologist, my cardiologist, my ophthalmologist... no problems anyone could find. It’s quite a process. 12 mo of continuous data from my constant glucose monitor showing no lows or highs, dilated eye exam, endocrinologist every 3 mo, blood work, Bruce maximal stress test. Keeping healthy with blood sugars constantly in range has been a task requiring extreme sacrifice and dedication. Been eating keto to keep my blood sugars stable. Haven’t had a carb in 14mo... no lie! Last A1C was 5.0. Lower than most people without diabetes! Anyone here flying as an insulin dependent diabetic?
  18. I go out of my way to fly on 757’s... United out of EWR. Wont be long now until they are all gone!
  19. Definitely make your own checklist. If you use ForeFlight there is a supplied checklist for the M20R that can be modified. Each plane has different installed equipment. For example ... Each autopilot has it’s own preflight procedure. TKS systems have checklists. Make your own. Starting point if you don’t have Foreflight are the checklists in the POH.
  20. I believe CAV purchased the STC in 2005 from AS&T. I have a 2002 O with TKS. I deal with CAV for support. I can’t imagine any changes as there is only one STC. Changes would require a separate STC. Just speculation.
  21. You can’t go wrong with having an annual done by Brian Kendrick. Brian worked at Mooney in various capacities. I believe one of his responsibilities was quality control before planes were delivered to customers. My PPI on my Ovation turned up various items only someone with his experience would have caught. He noted my elevator was positioned incorrectly during cruise flight and made adjustments to correct. The list goes on and on. As long as Brian will have me as a customer I won’t have anyone else work on my plane. I believe he only works on Ovations and Acclaims. www.mooneysupport.com Going down to TX to pick up my plane from him next Fri!
  22. Is there an app or program that would allow me to track maintenance on my Ovation?
  23. I talked to Craig today... you are correct sir! Thank you for your help!
  24. I was told by a friend that the Ovation flies surprisingly well overweight. I told him to never to do that!
  25. Mooney is making them. Takes about 4-6 weeks.
