  1. Nowhere in my POH does it show the quantity of fluid in the tank during weighing. It does give the empty weights before and after install of the TKS and stby altenator. 88lbs for both. That weight would appear to be an empty TKS tank. I have seen posts here of others W&B for TKS and the fluid quantities vary.
  2. I was looking through my POH and the TKS supplement. I can’t find the arm for the TKS tank to calculate an accurate W&B. I was just going to use the rear seat arm as the tank is located under the seat but was looking for an official number. Just kidding. I found it! 70.7 in. Does the weight of the TKS fluid reduce the rear seat useful load of 340#?
  3. Thanks for the responses... just the info I was looking for. The G500 from Allen is the one I’m looking at purchasing. Just trying to figure out how this enablement card system works. It states in the sale thread that it is equipped with SVT so from what Im gathering the SVT enablement card must be present. If not then I would have to buy a new SVT card off of eBay since it isn’t offered by Garmin anymore it seems. It also cost $4,800 new!
  4. I’m looking to purchase a used G500 with SVT and a GAD46 autopilot interface box. Do I need to purchase enablement cards for the SVT and the GAD46 or was that already taken care of when installed previously?
  5. I’m interested in the G500. PM sent!
  6. So many Bendix King autopilots installed in Mooneys and no responses? Do I take that as no one is doing inspections?
  7. How often are you complying with the BK Service bulletin 292 which is an ICA for auto pilot servo inspection once a year or 1000 hrs. It’s quite an expensive SB to comply with ever year and seems like overkill.
  8. You didn't get the sarcasm... did you?
  9. There’s an entire industry down in Mexico and South America of hackers whose sole job is to hack... cell phones, software, computers etc. My wife wife is Peruvian and she has first person knowledge of how the 3rd world economy works. They can’t afford to pay US prices so hackers find ways around the protections. I’ve been continually amazed what gets done down there.
  10. Used or new. Thanks!
  11. The avionics get sold outside the country. Mexico, South America most likely.
  12. Thanks for the advice and the panel pics. I’m not going to proceed with this plan until Sept. I’m planning on enjoying the plane until then as/is. JPI 700 need to be serviced due to the photovoltaic cell not working. Don’t know if I want to pay to support the JPI 700. Also want the 310hp STC. This is just a recon flight to gather info..
  13. I have no idea why there are 2 transponders. I imagine for super-quantum redundancy. I was wondering that when I bought the plane. I’d like to remove it. I will take all the useful load increase I can get with having TKS and A/C. I know using gyro instruments has it’s associated maintenance costs as does maintaining 2 vac systems but I like them. Unless its very cost prohibitive maintaining everything in the long run vs. going with EFIS my plan is to keep and maintain them. I’m open to criticism. Maybe I’m wrong. GI-275 and CGR-30. Will look into these. If I went the JPI route is there a recommended avionics installer to contact?
  14. I have a 2002 Ovation 2. I’d like to add a JPI EDM 900 and remove the Moritz gauges. My panel is pretty packed. As it sits now the 900 wont fit. My idea was to move the 6 pack up with the removal of the Moritz and put the #2 NAV and STBY AI under the HSI and TC. That would leave space left of the elevator trim and flap indicators for the 900 preferably horizontal mounted. If not then vertical. Maybe I could fit a 930? Has anyone done this? I’d like to have a new panel cut and laser engraved with N number and placards. I would like to do the 310hp STC and believe the JPI 900 will suffice as the sole engine tachometer? Anyone recommend a shop that can do this work? My budget is $10,000. Is that as realistic number of $ bills?
  15. Ready for ice... for a couple years maybe! Almost got into ice already the other day. 2C in the clouds.
  16. I submitted the application by mail. I have not received anything back from them. Wondering!
  17. The FAA received my transfer of registration request about 3 weeks ago. Does anyone know how long the processing time is for transferring registration to new owners?
  18. Ahhhh... I do see Will is on the list. Don’t know why I missed it!
  19. I needed 3 hrs to meet insurance minimums in my new to me 2002 Ovation 2. I hired Will Wobbe to get that accomplished. He’s based out of IAD area. Will is a fantastic instructor extremely knowledgeable in all things Ovation. He has about 325 hrs in model. On the ground we briefly went over systems, limitations and flight profiles. He saw I was well prepared so we went out to fly. When we got up in the air we did some slow flight dirty and transitioned into an approach to landing stall. Emergency gear extension was accomplished as well. All went smoothly. We then returned to the airport for some pattern work. We did 3 uneventful touch n go’s. 2nd day we did some IFR flying with emphasis on familiarization with the G430W/G530W and the KFC225 autopilot. I flew an auto pilot coupled LPV, and a hand flown ILS down to minimums. Except for some unfamiliarity with the 430/530 it was pretty smooth. 3rd day was 3 more touch n go’s. .6 on the Hobbs. The T&G’s were a little more challenging on the 3rd day as winds were across the runway and were 20 g25 with some mild turbulence and wind shear but things felt like they had come together the last day. I was feeling comfortable in the plane. Total flight time was 6.1 Taking instruction from Will is easy as he’s got a pretty laid back style of teaching. He has a wealth of knowledge he loves to share. He’s a genuinely nice guy. I enjoyed my time flying with him. I don’t know why he’s not on the Mooneyflyer.com list of instructors. He deservedly should be. I found him on Facebook on the Mooney Pilot page after posting a request for an Ovation instructor. He’s certainly an asset to the Mooney community. If you want his contact info PM me.
  20. Put it in the shopping cart and try to check out. Checkout page states item is disqualified from freee shipping. $689 shipped is a good deal. It only took 3 days to receive it. No extra cost for lift gate service. They dropped it off right at my hangar! Win!
  21. I will experiment adding fuel during my next fill up to check accuracy. Thanks for your feedback about gauge accuracy! It alleviates some anxiety! I have the KFC225 autopilot. Is it possible to remove primary and stby vac systems? If so what would be be the most inexpensive way of going about it. Budget is stretched currently but would like to put together a plan to get it done.
  22. I know I know... lots of questions! The next question I have is about the site gauges on the wings. My plane only has an 851lb useful load. TKS, A/C, two transponders, two alternators, two vacuum systems... basically 2 of everything! I see myself having to make compromises with fuel loading to get pax in the plane. My normal fuel load for flying locally will be 30 gal each wing tank which is the limit of the sight gauges. What is the track record of the sight gauges being accurate? Should they be trusted? I know only accurate on the ground. They look to be in good condition. 29 gallons of empty tank space will allow me to get a third pax in.
  23. Oooops! My bad! Thank you!
  24. Tried JGarrison. No response. Must be unavailable. Thanks!
