  1. This is what I was looking for. In type K .
  2. I checked the ring against factory bayonet up to 212 (cup of boiling water with cup heater). Both agreed as much as I could tell from the poor scaleability of the factory gauge. The only thing I can tell is this is a newly overhauled engine. Maybe paint and non even surface right at the gasket seat are interrupting good heat transfer. I tried to clean the surfaces and remounted with a new crush gasket, but no improvement. The ring terminal is against the cylinder.
  3. https://https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pnpages/2856.php?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1pqP56Wu8wIVZAp9Ch1gJwk2EAQYAiABEgJIJPD_BwE This is the Insight piggyback thermo couple probe. JPI used to make this in a type K. My avionics guy has installed them. A friend has one in his Bonanza. Much more accurate than the ring under the mounting boss.
  4. I think there is some confusion with what I was looking for. I was trying to get the mounting boss for the bayonet mount where the thermocouple wires are welded to the mounting boss. I have a bayonet mount but that would replace the factory unit. Insight makes this but it is a type J. JPI used to make it in a type K but they don’t make it now.
  5. I’ve contacted Wolf Aviation to see what they have. Thanks for the help.
  6. I talked to them a while back about purchasing the bayonet mount probe and got absolutely nowhere. Guess I need to try again. In my opinion, it’s a no-brainer.
  7. SO my idea about using the Insight bayonet mount turns out to be a dud. The JPI CHT ring type TC turns out to be a type K. I’m either back to the ring connector which has erroneous reading or installing a bayonet on no. 3 and removing the factory TC. I could always tie it up for re-install when it’s time to sell. For now the decision is, do I want it FAA correct or do I want to know what is really going on with my engine. No I’m not ready to go to the 930 primary gauge route.
  8. Could be why JPI doesn’t make the bayonet mount TC anymore. When I called about my readings and ask about the old style they said it was discontinued because of grounding issues.
  9. I have confirmed they are both type J. I believe J’s are typical for CHT and K’s are typical for EGT. K range is -330 to 2460 degrees F. J range is -40 to 1382 degrees F.
  10. So latest update for me. I got frustrated with the ring TC and found that Insight still makes the bayonet mount TC. Both TC’s are type J. Any reason I couldn’t replace the JPI ring TC with Insight Bayonet mount?
  11. Previous owner lost radios while flying thru weather. That’s when N78984 got her 201 windshield. Problem solved.
  12. Not an investment. A labor of love.
  13. Thanks I will definitely check on those options for cost. It is a ‘62 after all. I’m already way beyond ever getting even a chunk of my investment back and still need a paint job.
  14. So now that pre 65’s are approved just told our local shop to order the GFC 500 for my ‘62 C. At this point just pitch and roll servos, head and mounting hardware. Not planning a yaw damper or trim servo. Trying to determine if the take off go around option is worth doing. What else should I consider?
  15. Just purchased set of rudder, Johnson bar, gear and aileron boots from aero comfort. Look good, haven’t installed yet. Airplane goes in for annual later this week.
  16. I discussed with my agent at Falcon. I've been with Global for some time. She stated she’s never had Global drop anyone due to age, and I should be good to go for a number of years yet. Can’t wait to see what it will cost as I get older.
  17. A bit late to the party. I’ve taken aerobatic lessons in a Zlin 242, T-6, and Extra 300. Flown simple aerobatics in a Cub, Taylorcraft, Citabria, and Lancair. Did my spin training in a C-150. I limit my Mooney maneuvers to commercial maneuvers. It does fantastic lazy 8’s.
  18. The best fried chicken I ever had was my mother’s, when I was a kid on the farm. It was our Sunday meal every week after church. Chicken was as fresh as it could be. I won’t bore you with the details but i remember it like it was yesterday, even though it was 60 years ago.
  19. My prop OH used that grease. Tiffin Aire sent a tube of the grease with the prop. I keep it in the fridge in my hanger so it won’t go bad when it gets hot in the summer.
  20. Any chance of getting a link to the movie you referenced in Hammdo’s cool Mooney adds post.  I’m still learning how to use MS so let me know is this is not the way to request.

  21. When we replaced our interior we purchased bulk material from Airtex and had our local auto seat cover shop do the work. Worked out fine and I still have material for the future. At the time we discussed why I supplied material specific to the burn test. The auto interior guy said the only difference between Airtex and his material was the fact that the Airtex material had been tested. They both are manufactured to the same standard.
  22. In industry, calibration should be traceable back to the national bureau of standards. Not sure how this would apply to a torque wrench but force and length or distance certainly have a US basis for those values there. Probably a bit of overkill here, but....
  23. Note: this photo was taken before engine overhaul when new controls were installed.
  24. I covered mine with vinyl wrap from a website called vivid vinyl. Used white on clear tape for labeling. Not fancy but functional. May need @carusoamto fix the gravity issue on the photo.
