  1. Yet he's spending all his time posting here, asking us how to break the engine in (and other odd questions per @LANCECASPER's summary), when all he has to do is ask you. It's the judgment people are questioning, IMO, not that he can't handle a stick and rudder.
  2. Some have looked at the data, and your rhetorical thousand-hour-Lycoming might be a better bet than you’re trying to suggest. https://www.avweb.com/ownership/the-savvy-aviator-45-how-risky-is-going-past-tbo/
  3. That you have to keep bringing up very limited experience of 40 years ago to refute charges of being inexperienced in this realm is telling you something, if you care to listen.
  4. I’m certain it was an erroneous indication and I posted in jest, but the earnest replies were still very interesting!
  5. Anyone got some tips for a 114 knot crosswind component to 27R?
  6. Good thing no turbine driver with combat experience has ever crashed a puny piston plane in the history of aviation. Look it up, folks. I don't know why everyone seems to doubt your genius plan to fly 5000 km in a totally unknown plane with a totally unknown engine with minimal effort to prepare whatsoever on a tight schedule in the most unfavorable weather possible. They're probably just jealous they're too weak to try it. Haters!
  7. Did you name your Steelie Dan?
  8. I've tried a number of them (including the Brightline, MGF, and others) but this one has been my favorite. I never use it anymore now that I'm no longer renting, though, so let me know if you're interested. https://www.flyingmag.com/flight-outfitters-simple-clean-centerline-backpack/
  9. Easy: Go buy @bmcconnaha’s plane, listed in the classifieds. Hell, my J is newer and has a GTN 750 but I’m still a little tempted!
  10. I have firsthand experience dealing with Neal, and I’m not surprised to hear that!
  11. @PT20J In your planning did you explore altering the structure behind the panel? For example, what if I want my GTN 750 radio stack a few inches farther to the right? Or I just don't want to be bound by the original design? I assume this is very expensive and probably inadvisable but I'm curious if you considered it.
  12. I also recently switched to Airstops and have been very satisfied.
  13. Maybe you can work something out here (scroll down).
  14. This would be my choice as well, specifically a Screaming Eagle. (@Niko182 if at some point in the future you guys are ready to sell, keep me in mind... ) I would also love to have the very last of the J breed with an Allegro, but my MSE is already pretty darn close so it'd probably have to be a trade.
  15. He's been a little more active on BeechTalk. If you miss the Rocket, you can find him there. Since he didn't hide his real name here and uses the same name there, I hope he doesn't think I'm speaking out of school.
  16. Yes, that's why I asked him if he meant Minnesota.
  17. Did you mean MN, or is there one in WI I haven’t heard about?
  18. It was the shops in Fort Lauderdale and Troutdale. I didn’t contact Willmar or any others.
  19. I tried replacing it with an MD93H during last year's partial panel upgrade but was told by the shop we'd have to build all new hardware for it to fit, basically requiring a new panel, so I deferred it to a later time when I'll be cutting an entire new panel anyway.
  20. $8000 for the mains and Monroys?! That's half what I was quoted last year.
  21. If I found myself commuting back and forth between the same two airports, I would keep a hangar at both ends along with a car. The car away from your home doesn't have to be great, just reliable. The 'last mile' can be a real pain in the ass, in other words, sometimes the flying is the easy part.
  22. Please share your secrets for getting these numbers from a J so I can use them myself, thank you.
  23. If @Alan Fox doesn't have any try @Jeev
  24. Not a CFI but this is my situation too. If we could do this again sometime with a little more notice I'd definitely want to come!
  25. Not sure about this. Savvy usually wants to be involved earlier. The "free" logbook review is meant to advise you whether you should bother negotiating in the first place, but our friend here has already gone a lot further by making an offer. https://www.savvyaviation.com/savvyprebuy/ Based on everything Mike's ever written about this (that I've read), it's not the favored approach, but it could possibly still work. They will probably want to have some questions answered in a pre-interview to clarify the scope of work and make sure you understand they're making exceptions from their usual practice before taking over pre-buy management. Also, there's a lot of value in Savvy's institutional knowledge: their database of shops could be worth the price of admission alone if you're unfamiliar with the options in a given area.
